Wrath the giant grizzly bear had once Again picked the scent of it’s next human meal. Just some hours ago it had picked up a similar scent and had stood rotund on its two hind legs only to find nothing but the giant pine trees, the lush grasses and the Gazelles which it could never catch. The giant beast had earned it’s name from the village locals of bear Creek due to its giant nature and ferocity in the advent of danger. It had many times attacked unsuspecting bikers who were only lucky to survive with their lives. The deep scars from the claws of the beast, reminded them and all that cared to look, of a time in their live when they missed meeting their maker by a whisker.
Amelia was very much content, living her lonely life in the pine forest but a dire need which included going to scavenge for old clothing, candle wax and match sticks had seen her defying the odds of the deadly forest to find her way into the neighboring villages. She was sure to disguise as much as possible to take what the garbage bins could afford her. Indeed she was certain that if the villagers knew who she was, they were going to lynch her with such fury that death was going to feel so good to her.
Wrath had earlier picked up her scent but had missed her due to the speed she had inculcated and the burning Dragon blood incense which she always used to prevent the wild animals from picking her smell. She had sneaked into the village to get some threads and gauze to stitch the giant cut on her strangers chest. Luckily she was in luck as the Mart down the creek had disposed many of it’s old stock, which included, threads, bandages, sanitary pads, soaps and some pills which she concluded were mostly Analgesics. Amelia had got hold of All her old nylon bag could take and had began to fare back to the cottage before it got too dark when, her sight had caught the notification on the sign board of the Store, The store next street was also offloading some old groceries which were soon to expire. Such generous offer happened only once in a blue moon and it attracted people from around the villages. Some were lucky to pack as much as a months grocery.
Without thinking twice, she headed for the next street and all she could find was some loaves of bread and some coffee powder which had been left in the open. Clearly, the bonanza had passed her but she was just glad to get some loaves for dinner. She shoved the two loaves of bread into the remainder space of her bag and headed straight for the pine forest In the most discreet manner possible. The extra minutes to fetch the loaves of bread and coffee powder had caused a derailment in her planned timing as darkness had serenaded the forest, making it very difficult for her to navigate her way to the cottage. The hooting of owls were like music to her ears as they have her sense of companionship. Her major worries were the howls of the wolves and the roar of the bears, which made her spine turn cold with every uproar they committed to the airways.
With the gibbous moon being her only source of navigation, she walked quickly through the woods which was as dark as a rodents hole . She could hear the raging growls of Wrath and knew he had picked up her presence. For a moment, she didn’t know if it was okay to hide or run with all the strength she had left. Amelia soon concluded that running in the dark forest was on it’s a own a whole degree of danger as the possibility of cracking her head against the rocks were high. Her best gamble was to hide behind the stem of a giant pine tree and hope that she could quickly find her matches in her old bag and ignite her Dragon blood Incense.
” Oh damn it. Where are you” She whispered in a frantic manner as she gently searched her bag for the match box which she was sure to have kept there. As she searched frantically for it, her fingers were eloped with a sudden coolness that seemed different from the temperature in the bag. She wiggled the free fingers and realized there had been a tear at the base of the bag.
” oh no . My matchbox is lost.” She sighed softly as her heart begin to beat so fast. Her smooth face was soon covered in Sweat as the growls and footstep of the hungry beast kept on edging towards her.
