A land flowing with milk and honey was what Governor Dubois and his supporters had promised to give the people of Texas if he was elected as governor. Growing from a young man who wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, The majority of the electorates believed he was the right candidate to take them to the promise land. They believed he was young, Intelligent and very hardworking as that was how he was able to garner his small chain of bars and Casino before becoming a politician and eventually a Governor. Far from what the people had expected , not only did Dubois fail to bring any improvement to the state, he made it worse than he had met it, causing difficulty and hardship for the people of the state. Only his major allies and thugs had good things to say about him. He was ruthless politician who did not support any form of opposition. Those who stood against him were soon cut short by the sickle of death itself. Among his many thugs, he held Gallagher in high esteem as both of himself and Gallagher were friends even before he had became a Governor. It was Gallagher who had helped him silenced his opposition by threatening them if they dared to speak bad of DuBois on the media. With Gallagher by his side, Dubois was untouchable and used the opportunity to milk the people off their hard earned money
The next election was by the corner and Dubois had called for a meeting with Gallagher at the capital of the state. Knowing there was always something to gain, Gallagher had wasted no time to ride down to the capital along with Durban and Merseyside. They headed into the Luxury parlor of the Governor Dubois where they were served with various delicacies, enough to satisfy a hundred person’s.
” My Boys. Welcome to Texas. Hope you all had a wonderful trip.” Said Dubois as he sat on the dining together with Gallagher and his boys.
” Yes sir. ” answered The two young men with the exception of Gallagher who was not interested in pleasantries, but what was available to be gained from.
” Dubois. Why have you called me. I know something must be cooking somewhere.” Said Gallagher as he watched his boys eating their guts away.
” Why don’t you have dinner first. Then we can talk over the matter at hand.” Said Dubois as he dissected a roasted chicken, that lay on a golden platter.
” I have no appetite for food. If it were money, I would swallow the whole platter and lick it. if I have to. Now too know we have a long way back to bear creek. Tell me what it is, you have called me for.” Said Gallagher as further sunk into the comfy chair, feeling all bossy in his black leather jacket and cowboy heart.
“I see then. Good and fine my big man. I’m glad your boys are having the time of their lives.” Said Dubois, pointing to Merseyside and Durban before continuing to speak.
” Well Gallagher. You know by now that elections is around the corner and I would very much like to retain my seat as the executive Governor of this state.” Said Dubois and smiled majestically before continuing. ” Gallagher. I know very much, that I can always count on you.” said Dubois as he sipped a glass of Champagne.
” That’s a great task. I know I stand a lot to gain from your extension as governor. You have my support.” ” But I will be needing to expand my territories of operation. You see that village called Texacana , that’s south of Bear Creek. I want it. I want to be in control of that village just like I control bear Creek.” Said Gallagher and smiled mildly as he flipped a silver coin to and fro his palm.
” Well oh well my man. Giving you Texacana to control Is not really a big deal for me. But you know that Anatoli and his boys are already in control of that Niche. Taking them off it at this vital stage of my campaign would hinder a lot. I think you should hold onto Bear creek and the surrounding suburbs for the main time while we strike another deal.” Said the thirty years old governor.
” Hmm. I see. So I can’t have Texacana you mean. ” Gallagher asked, paying more attention to the coin he flipped than the governor himself.
” At this point. Forget about Texacana . When I’m out of office some days, I plan on leaving this state for you. But you must be patient just like I was.” Said Dubois in a tone of persuasion.
” Okay Mister Governor. I am a really patient man. I will wait till you are done with ruling Texas. Boys let’s hit the road.” Said Gallagher in an irritated tone as he stood up and began to walk away. His colleagues wasted no time in following in his foot steps.
” Wait ! Gallagher wait man.” Said the governor and ran frantically to Gallagher, till his lips were near his ears and whispered some words to his hearing.
” Are you sure about this.” Said Gallagher who had halted all of a sudden.
” Yes I am . When have I ever dealt you a sour deal. That’s the reason why I have asked you to come. ” Said Dubois, in an air of majesty.
” Boys! wait for me outside. I have personal issues to discuss with the Governor.” Said Gallagher and walked back to the same seat where he had stood up from. While DuBois also went back to his seat.
