Chapter 78

Book:The Billionaire Pretend Girlfriend Published:2024-6-2

Liam was informed that his mother had already passed away before reaching the hospital, and this news filled him with rage.
“Did the kidnappers send you any message, Mr. Scott?” asked the police officer while Liam and Elliot were at the police station.
All attention shifted to Liam’s phone when it suddenly started ringing.
“It’s probably the kidnappers,” Elliot remarked, taking the phone from Liam and putting it on speaker.
“You’re the well-known billionaire, Liam Scott,” a mysterious male voice declared, receiving no response. The police immediately began tracking the caller’s location.
“Who is this?” Liam engaged the person in conversation to help the police trace him.
“I know you have the police tracking my location right now,” the caller said, leaving everyone shocked. Liam scanned the area for potential eavesdroppers.
“No need for that. If you ever want to see your little girlfriend again, you will come alone to the address I just sent you,” the caller threatened, and a message with the location appeared on Liam’s phone.
“Who are you?” Liam asked, hoping for an answer.
“You will soon find out, oh, and I’m sorry for your loss,” the caller chuckled before ending the call.
“Bastard!” Liam was about to throw his phone, but Elliot stopped him, saying they needed it.
Elliot informed Liam that the police would follow him to the location after a few minutes of his arrival to raid the place.
“Do you all understand the plan?” Elliot asked, and everyone nodded.
“I’m coming, Amelia,” Liam muttered to himself.
Liam arrived at the location sent by the kidnappers, but he felt that something wasn’t right since they never demanded any ransom. He found himself in an unfinished building with no one in sight.
Liam thought, “I need to call Elliot; something doesn’t feel right.”
Before he could take his phone out, he was struck on the head from behind with a rod. Turning to face his attacker, Liam saw a masked person.
“Who… are… you?” Liam stuttered, feeling his consciousness slipping away.
“Your worst nightmare,” the man replied.
“You’re a stranger… in the…” images of the stranger on the street flashed through Liam’s mind before everything turned black.
Elliot anxiously paced around the police station, worried about Liam. “Calm down, Mr. Elliot,” a police officer tried to console him.
“Calm down? Really? It’s been 30 minutes, and we haven’t heard from Liam. How can I calm down?” Elliot scoffed.
“I think we should go to the place,” another police officer suggested.
“No, we have to wait…”
“You’re right; we need to go now. Something doesn’t feel right,” Elliot interrupted, agreeing with the commissioner.
Elliot and the police officers headed to the kidnappers’ hideout but found no one there after a thorough search.
“I think we were tricked; there’s nothing here,” one of the police officers declared.
Elliot’s eyes caught something on the floor. He picked it up and realized it was Liam’s phone.
“You were right; we were tricked,” he showed them Liam’s phone.
“The kidnappers must have realized we were onto them,” the commissioner said.
“Damnit!” Elliot yelled, angrily tossing the phone aside.
“Where could he be?” Elliot ruffled his hair in frustration.
Liam was tied to a chair, still unconscious, with blood dripping from his head, soaking his hair. His abductor, the boss, ordered his men to wake him up.
“Wake him up,” the boss commanded.
“Yes, boss,” one of the men splashed a bucket of water on Liam’s face.
“Hey, wake up,” another goon said, tapping Liam’s shoulder.
Liam slowly opened his eyes, scanning his surroundings before looking up at his captors.
“You won’t get away with this,” Liam’s voice trailed off, eliciting laughter from the boss, despite his face being concealed.
“Oh, Liam Scott, the self-made billionaire who has everything in life – a mansion, cars, companies, wealth, fame,” the boss began, pacing around Liam.
“But there is one thing Liam Scott doesn’t have,” the boss said, making Liam frown.
“Can anyone tell me what Liam Scott doesn’t have?” He asked his men, who glanced at each other nervously.
“I said, can anyone tell me what Liam Scott doesn’t have?” the boss repeated, his voice filled with rage, making them flinch.
“A girlfriend,” one of them finally replied.
“Fool!” the boss smacked him in the face.
“Liam Scott still has a girlfriend, for now,” the boss chuckled evilly.
“Don’t you dare do anything to her,” Liam warned.
“Oh, Liam Scott is threatening me. I’m so scared,” the boss shivered, pretending to be afraid.
“Who are you? Why are you doing this?” Liam yelled, desperate to know the masked man’s identity.
“Calm down, Liam Scott. Why don’t I reveal my face to you? After all, you’re going to die soon,” he said and removed his mask, revealing his face. Liam’s eyes widened; the man looked familiar, but he couldn’t remember where he had seen him.
“Who are you?” Liam weakly asked, unable to recall him.
“How about I refresh your memory,” the boss chuckled, putting on big dorky glasses.
“Hey, why are you hitting this poor guy?” the man acted, attempting to recreate a scene. His act was so vivid that Liam’s eyes widened.
“You’re that nerd Elliot punched,” Liam muttered.
“Yes, Liam Scott,” he chuckled.
“So you’re doing this because Elliot punched you?” Liam scoffed in disbelief.
“I’m not that petty, Scott. Besides, even if that was the reason, I should be having my revenge on that jerk instead,” he frowned, recalling the scenes when Elliot punched him.
“So what? I did something to you?” Liam sneered, chuckling slightly.
“You took away everything from me, Liam Scott,” he uttered.
“I’m sorry, I took away everything from you? How?” Liam smirked.
“Wipe that dirty smirk from your face. I fucking want to put a bullet down your plastic head,” he said between his teeth.
“Then do it! Stop wasting time and just kill me already, you bastard,” Liam said fearlessly.
“How about I kill your beautiful girlfriend instead,” he smirked as he saw Liam’s eyes widen.
“Go bring the girl,” the boss ordered.
“Yes, sir,” one of the goons went to fetch Amelia.
“Hey, you have a problem with me, so fucking leave her out of this,” Liam pleaded, trying to free himself from the chair.
“Not so cocky now, I see,” he chuckled darkly.
Amelia was dragged outside by the goons, looking weak and beaten, her beautiful face covered in dirt. Liam gasped when he saw her.
“What did you do to her, Amelia!” Liam yelled out, desperately trying to break free from the chair.
“Calm down, Scott; she is fine,” the boss chuckled.
Amelia was brought before the boss, who pushed her down, forcing her to kneel. He aimed the gun at her cheek, making Liam gulp in fear. Just as the boss was about to pull the trigger, Liam managed to break free from the chair.
“Stop it!” Liam yelled, shifting the aim from Amelia’s head to the ceiling, causing the bullet to hit the ceiling instead.
The goons immediately restrained Liam as he struggled to break free.
“Why are you doing this? What do you want?” Liam cried out, attempting to free himself from their grasp.
“I want you to suffer just like I did when my family shattered,” the boss started.
“Years ago, my father’s company was taken down and crushed to pieces, all thanks to you and your massive Liam empire,” he said, poking the gun at Liam’s chest.
“What?” Liam uttered, confused.
“Don’t you get it, stepbrother?” the boss chuckled, causing Liam’s eyes to widen at the revelation.
“You are my mother’s other family,” Liam muttered.
“I’m that child you took everything from, my father and mother got divorced when the company wasn’t doing well, and everything started to crumble… I was blamed every day by my own father for the company’s losses. He always compared me to you and wished you were his son,” he explained, laughing with pain in his voice.
“How is that my fault?” Liam frowned.
“You are to be blamed, okay? Only you took everything away from me, even my mom,” the boss seethed, pointing the gun toward his own forehead.
“I didn’t take everything away from you; you took your mother away from me!” Liam yelled, and Amelia raised her head to look at him.
“Shut up, just shut up, okay? You’re lying! I didn’t kill Mom; you did, and now you’re going to join her,” his stepbrother said, raising the gun.
Liam closed his eyes, expecting the trigger to be pulled, but a few seconds later, he heard a gunshot without feeling any pain.
He was shocked to see Amelia in front of him, holding her cheek as she smiled before collapsing to the ground.
“Amelia!” Liam yelled, witnessing her soaked in her own blood.
“Why does everyone keep taking the bullet for you?” His stepbrother shouted in frustration.
Filled with rage, Liam fought back against the men holding him and then charged at his stepbrother, pummeling him before gripping his collar tightly.
“Let go of him!” one of the goons said, aiming a gun at Liam.
His stepbrother chuckled and punched Liam, causing him to stumble to the ground.
“You don’t seem to realize that I’m in control, and your end is now,” his stepbrother said, pointing the gun at Liam.
Liam glanced at Amelia, who lay on the ground soaked in her blood, tears streaming down his cheeks.
“Aww, the well-known Liam Scott is crying,” his stepbrother mocked.
“I hope you die a miserable death and rot in hell,” Liam cursed at him.
“I’m the one with the gun, okay? I get to decide who’s going to die, and now it’s your turn unless anyone here wants to take the bullet for you,” he said, looking at his men, who shifted back.
“I guess not, so goodbye, Liam Scott. Tell Mom I said hi,” he chuckled, aiming the gun at Liam’s forehead.
Liam’s POV: This is the end for me. I’m coming, Mom.
He closed his eyes, waiting for the gunshot that would end everything.
Boom!
