Chapter 77

Book:The Billionaire Pretend Girlfriend Published:2024-6-2

It had been weeks since Amelia moved out of Liam’s mansion. During this time, they had grown even closer and had shared an intimate night together when they were both drunk.
Liam was relaxing on the couch in Amelia’s apartment while she busied herself in the kitchen.
“What are you up to there?” Liam asked, curious about her prolonged kitchen activity.
“I’m making Korean corn dogs!” Amelia exclaimed with excitement.
“Really? Let me see,” Liam said, standing up and heading towards the kitchen.
“No, no, no,” Amelia protested, trying to block his path into the kitchen.
“Why not, Teddy?” Liam chuckled, trying to sneak a peek at what she was cooking.
“Please, Liam, just leave,” Amelia pleaded, but he playfully held onto her waist.
“You know I love it when you call me by my name,” Liam said with a smile, using his hand to caress her cheek. His touch sent shivers down her spine, making her bite her lip.
“You look sexy when you bite your lips,” Liam whispered into her ear, causing Amelia to let out a slight moan.
“Stop it,” Amelia playfully hit his chest.
“But you kinda like it when I talk to you like this,” Liam teased, a grin on his face.
“Well, I don’t hate it,” Amelia admitted before moving away to continue her cooking.
Just as Liam was about to say something, his phone buzzed, interrupting the moment. He took the phone from his pocket and answered it.
“Hello?” Liam greeted, drawing Amelia’s attention towards him.
“Oh, really? That’s great news! I’ll be there right away,” Liam said excitedly before rushing out of the kitchen, leaving Amelia completely confused. She quickly ran after him.
“Liam, what’s going on? Where are you going?” Amelia questioned, trying to keep up with his sudden enthusiasm.
“My mom has finally regained consciousness,” Liam announced, and Amelia’s eyes lit up with joy.
“Really?!” She exclaimed with happiness. Liam had shared with Amelia the story of his mother, who had lost her memories of him due to a previous accident. But despite that, they had rekindled their love and were now together.
“Yes, I’m going to the hospital right now,” Liam replied, and Amelia insisted on accompanying him.
“Okay,” Liam agreed, and a few minutes later, they were ready and driving to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital, they headed straight to Liam’s mother’s room. The doctor came out to see them standing outside.
“How is she now?” Liam immediately asked the doctor.
“She’s doing well now. You can go in and see her; she’s conscious,” the doctor informed them before leaving.
Amelia and Liam exchanged glances before taking a deep breath. She held his hand, assuring him that everything would be fine as she sensed his anxiety and nervousness.
“Let’s go in,” Amelia suggested, pushing the door open slowly.
Lying on the bed was Liam’s mom, who slowly turned her head towards them. There was pain in her eyes as she couldn’t express herself except through blinking.
“Does she not recognize you?” Amelia whispered to Liam, but he ignored the question and moved closer to his mother’s bedside.
Surely, Liam’s mom did recognize him, as they had encountered each other during conferences. Liam had even taken action against his mother’s new family company, causing their downfall in the business world.
“Hey, Mom,” Liam greeted her with a soft voice, and she responded with a faint smile.
“What’s wrong? Why isn’t she talking?” Amelia asked from the back.
“I don’t know,” Liam muttered, kneeling down beside his mother’s bed and holding her hand.
“Mom,” he called out, putting aside any resentments he had towards her.
“Liam,” she uttered, her voice filled with pain and regret.
“Mom,” Liam said, holding her tightly.
“My son,” Liam’s mom said while hugging him, tears streaming down her eyes.
Liam couldn’t hold back his tears as they embraced each other, and Amelia felt emotional witnessing the touching reunion. She went to hug them too, and Liam’s mom noticed her presence.
“Who is she?” Liam’s mom asked in a weak voice, referring to Amelia.
“She is my girlfriend,” Liam told his mother.
“Nice to meet you, Ma,” Amelia greeted her.
“You are so beautiful, dear,” his mother complimented Amelia, making her blush.
“Yes, she is,” Liam added, making Amelia’s cheeks even redder.
“May both of you stay together and be happy forever,” his mother said.
“Amen,” Amelia and Liam said in unison before sharing a laugh.
Liam’s mom got discharged from the hospital, and they all headed to Liam’s mansion. Amelia couldn’t stop blushing, knowing that Liam had introduced her as his girlfriend.
As they were driving, a car suddenly pulled up in front of them, causing Liam to hit the brakes.
“What the heck?” Liam exclaimed, looking back to check on his mother in the back seat.
“Are you guys okay?” Liam asked, and they nodded.
“Who could that be?” Amelia wondered, staring at the car in front of them.
“I don’t know,” Liam replied.
A few minutes later, some armed goons stepped out of the car and approached Liam’s car.
“What’s happening?” Amelia immediately started to panic.
“Calm down, love. I won’t let anything happen to you guys,” Liam reassured her, quickly texting Elliot to alert the police about the danger he sensed.
The goons came closer and knocked on the window, demanding Liam to open the door.
“Open the door, or we’ll break the window!” one of the goons threatened. Liam sighed and reluctantly opened the car door.
“Yes, how may I help you?” Liam asked, but instead of a response, the goons charged at him, starting to beat him.
“Liam!” Amelia panicked, trying to find her phone to call the police.
“Hey, get out of the car now!” another goon, a woman, ordered Amelia, threatening to break the glass if she didn’t comply.
They seemed not to notice Liam’s mother in the back seat. Amelia was pulled out of the car and dragged towards where they stood.
“Oh, this is his little girlfriend,” one of the goons chuckled, looking at Amelia.
“Take her to the van. The bosses ordered us to bring her,” one of them commanded, and Amelia was dragged to the van.
“Liam!” Amelia yelled.
“Let her go!” Liam tried to stop them, but a gun was pointed at his head.
“Don’t try anything funny, mister,” one of the goons warned him.
“Why are you doing this? Who sent you?” Liam asked, but they only replied, “You’ll find out later.” Then they backed away from Liam, and the woman pushed Amelia into the van.
“Liam!” Amelia cried out.
“Shut up, girl!” the lady goon yelled at Amelia.
“Let her go!” Liam yelled, running towards them and trying to fight the goons off.
However, one of the goons couldn’t handle Liam’s resistance and pulled out a gun, firing at him.
“Liam!” Amelia screamed as her eyes widened in shock.
But Liam looked down at the spot where the gun touched him and realized he didn’t feel any pain. He saw his mother in front of him, and the gun had touched her forehead, leaving him in shock and disbelief.
“Mother!” Liam cried out, catching his mother in his arms. She was now covered in her own blood, and Liam’s heart sank as he saw her struggling to breathe.
Amelia, still inside the van, witnessed the tragic scene unfold before her eyes. Tears streamed down her face as she felt completely helpless, unable to do anything to save Liam’s mother or herself from the dangerous situation they were in.
The goons took advantage of the chaos and quickly drove away, leaving Liam and Amelia behind. Liam’s mother’s life was slipping away in his arms, and he couldn’t bear to see her suffering.
“I’m so sorry for everything I did, my son. Please forgive me,” Liam’s mother pleaded weakly, her voice trembling with pain.
“You will be fine, Mom. Open your eyes,” Liam implored through tears, holding her hand tightly.
“It’s… too late, my love… always be happy… I’m sorry for how I treated you in the past. I love you,” she stammered as she took her last breath.
Liam was shattered, his world crumbling around him. He had just regained his mother’s love and affection, only for her to be taken away from him again. The weight of her last words, filled with remorse and love, struck him deeply.
“Mom!” Liam wailed, holding her lifeless body close to his heart. The pain of losing both his parents now weighed heavily on his soul.
