Chapter Ninety-Seven – Paired up.
Lucy had heard the news on the radio.
The part she didn’t hear, however, was how her mother was the murderer of Juliet Marbles, her aunt. How in the world?
Lucy was still fighting with the fact her mother conspired to kill Arya, she was hoping her mother was still her mother while holding on the fact she wasn’t the mastermind.
But to think she had actually masterminded and perfectly executed the murder of her own sister years ago? It blew Lucy’s mind away.
Everyone at the work place was talking about Debby and Winx issue while Lucy racked her brain over her mother’s.
It was revealed that one of Debby’s accomplice had been caught, while the other escaped. No name was mentioned.
Lucy knew she was safe even still because her mom didn’t share her surname. She divorced her father and went to Mr. Stark so decided to go back to her maiden name.
“And to think that Mr. Stark was also killed.” Lucy shivered. Her mother had really gone down a dangerous path.
She washed her face with cold water again before leaving the restroom. Maybe with her mother out of the way, she could have a normal relationship with her cousins.
They were her only relative now and she was theirs. That was, if they didn’t hate her after all her mother did to them.
A client came to Lucy’s table just as she was lost in thoughts.
“Excuse me, I was told to come over here.” The young man spoke, sending her out of her thinking.
She gazed at him with tired eyes then glanced at her co-worker who had just sent her customer to her instead.
They were lots of lazy workers in her workplace but because she was still low ranked, Lucy couldn’t do anything about it.
They were lower ranked workers she could send the young man to again but she didn’t want to stress the man, going back and forth.
“What is your name, please?” She asked in a low tone.
“Dean Osamu.” He replied with a grin.
Lucy raised a file on her desk and Anna’s wedding invitation card came into view. She was about tucking it away when the young man held her hand. “You know Anna? Anna Stark?”
Lucy looked at him like he was crazy. “Yes, I do. Do you?”
Even if he did, should he have held her hand in such an unprofessional manner? Someone could misunderstand them.
“Yes, yes. I basically helped her print that wedding card. She’s a friend of mine. Is she your friend? How do you know her? What’s your name?” Dean peered into her name tag.
Lucy covered it, as her face flushed. Her name tag was just on her left breast and he was staring at it, intently.
“I’m Lucy. Anna and I are cousins.” The man really talked a lot. How did Anna get him as a friend?
He had a flat expression when she mentioned she was Anna’s cousin. Lucy looked away, maybe he also knew that she and Anna didn’t have the best relationship.
“Anyway, please, fill this form. You want to open a bank account, right?” she asked him. He was still staring at her.
She clenched her fists and looked away. She was at work or she’d so pull his ear with her teeth now. “Fill the form.”
He finally took it and began scribbling on it. Lucy gasped and began struggling to get the paper from him. “What are you doing? Why are you messing it up?”
“You never asked me what I wanted to do. Why did you assume I’m here to open an account?” he murmured.
Lucy wanted to face palm. “Okay then, what do you want to do? And please, act professional with me. I’m at work.”
Dean’s eyes lit up. “You’d eat out with me later, then?”
What? She never said that? “I mean, just act professional with me, even when I’m out of work.” She rolled her eyes.
“Ahh, Anna didn’t tell me you were this uptight.” Dean sighed, relaxing on his chair.
“Anna? Why would she tell you anything about me in the first place?” Lucy tried not to raise her voice.
Dean smirked and came closer. “Anna usually paired her male friends with her family members. That’s how she paired up Arya with Damien. She paired us together.” He raised a brow.
Lucy gasped. It Anna who introduced Damien to Arya? Lucy was aware Anna and Damien attended the same university at the same time period but she didn’t think they’d be friends.
“And she paired me with you?” she sounded disappointed.
“I can hear every emotion in that question.” Dean laughed. “Yeah, she paid us up. It’s our choice to make it a reality.” He winked at her.
Lucy sighed. So she was getting hit on by a guy she just met just because she was Anna’s cousin. “Let’s finish with why you’re here…”
“Right. I came to open an account for my company. It will be having an American branch soon. Congratulate me.” He smirked. “The name is Darsark. Should I spell it?”
Lucy handed him a form to fill. “Write it down yourself. And congratulations on your American branch.”
When he took it, she relaxed on her chair.
Since he knew Damien, then if was possible he was the CEO of Darsark, a popular telecommunications company in Japan. Anna surely made wealthy friends in school.
But rich men didn’t excite Lucy anymore. She felt more confident in building up her own wealth.
“You are done?” she took the form from him. “Just curious, why not send a worker to open the account? As CEO, showing up at random places could put you in danger.”
Dean shifted closer to her. “Ahh, you thought I’m the CEO?”
Lucy shrugged. “I had randomly guessed.”
“Well, that’s much work. I don’t like being caged like Damien. My younger sister is the CEO not me. I’m just helping her out since I know America more than she does.” He explained.
Lucy definitely understood wanting to rest and be free. She wished that for herself as well but it may take years before it’d happen. “Good for you then. We are done.”
“We are done?” Dean repeated.
“I mean, we are done with filling the account form. When it’s ready, you’d be called to collect it.” Lucy remarked.
“Okay then. So when will you eat out with me?” Dean propped his head with his hands.
Lucy was still unwilling. It was true having a boyfriend was part of her goals at the time, but she would have preferred a more dramatic meeting that this.
“Is it because Anna paired us up?” she frowned.
He smirked. “Exactly. Damien and Arya had made a good pair. Who knows we could as well.”
He was so persistent and direct that Lucy found it adorable. “Well, I may not close early today so I can’t tell you to wait…”
“I’d wait!” he offered, getting up. “See you soon then.”
As he walked away, Lucy glared at Anna’s wedding invitation. What in the world had her cousin put her into!
