Chapter Ninety-Six – Parting gift.
Winx accepted to be a witness to keep Deborah Chan in rehab. Many protesters wanted her to be kept in jail despite her being a minor.
The media had caught whiff of what happened because a popular celebrity had been in the boutique when it happened, while shooting a video for her fans.
She had also witnessed that Debby just walked into the store then went after the girls.
The identity of the other girl wasn’t necessary to the media, they only wanted to know why the genius attempt murder.
Also, it seemed they forgot Debby was once acquainted to the Wades or they’d begin asking barrages of questions.
Meanwhile, while detained, Debby desisted from answering unnecessary questions. All she said was she didn’t regret going after the girl because she wanted her dead.
The girl being Arya but to the masses, Winx.
Debby’s reason was unknown and since there was no prior relationship between Winx and Debby, the media signed it off as mental illness.
Debby’s father fueled the case as mental illness to allow his daughter get a lighter sentence. Damien didn’t know how he felt about everything.
He closed his laptop after reading the blog post on the case. “As long as Debby isn’t being free anytime soon, then I’m okay with it.” He mumbled.
The police were still unto Chen and due to Debby’s case, the media weren’t parading the explosion issue much, even if it had a linkage to Debby.
“Maybe since Winx was a victim they could easily interrogate, they’re going for her instead of Connor and Arya.” He thought.
That was still to his favor. The way the media worked usually surprised him and proved him wrong. Either ways, his last card had been played. But he hadn’t secured the victory.
He came out of his car and exhaled. Jenna would be caught very soon. Diablo found the address of the new hideout Debby had been staying at, it was possible Jenna was there.
“She wouldn’t say anything about her sister’s death because it didn’t concern the case but Arya and Anna needed to know and confront her about it.” Damien said out loud.
“Need to know what?” Connor came in front of him with some plantain chips. “Arya and Anna need to know?”
Damien smiled, taking some chips from his plate. “They need to know about it before you. Anna has arrived, hasn’t she?”
Connor pouted, taking his chips away from him. “Since you aren’t telling me then don’t take my chips. And Anna may or may not have arrived already.”
A sigh left Damien and he locked his car. Anna was here, or else Connor wouldn’t come to met him. “Thank you for telling me. If you want to know what it is then come in.”
Connor huffed, looking away. “I’d just ask Arya later.”
She might not be in the emotional condition to tell him later but Damien let him go with that. He didn’t want him present when he’d tell the sisters as they could get emotional.
“Suit yourself.” Damien smirked, then walked into the house. He let out a deep exhale when he saw the sisters chatting happily in the living room.
He would be destroying that atmosphere in a few minutes.
“Hey, ladies…”
Anna jumped up excitedly. “So Damien, what do you say about being my husband’s best man? None of his military friends could make it. Please?”
Best man? He froze up. He didn’t even have a normal wedding when he had his. He didn’t know a thing about being a best man and that wasn’t what was on his mind now.
“How about asking me later? I want to inform you two about something first.” He sat down in front of them.
Anna frowned and sat back down, studying his expression. “It’s not a bad news, right? I didn’t come all the way to hear a bad news.” Arya glanced at her sister then at Damien.
It was definitely a bad news with the way he looked. But even still, Arya knew it wasn’t heavy. And no one was in mortal danger. “Let’s hear it out since you want us both too.”
Anna smiled at her sister. She must be really into Damien to want him sharing his opinions. “Okay then, let’s hear it.”
Damien didn’t know exactly how to start. He needed them to have some idea of the problem first. He gave them pictures of Jenna and Juliet along with the hospital record.
Their confused expression was expected so he explained everything, adding at the end that it was a speculation as they didn’t have the actual hospital record.
Jenna wouldn’t be punished based on speculation so her only sentence would be based on her help with Debby to almost kill Arya and Connor.
“What do you mean!” Anna threw down the picture.
Damien went backwards. He wasn’t sure if her anger was directed at him or Jenna. “What do I mean?”
He noticed that her eyes were looking straight ahead with blazing anger. Her fists were clenched and if someone moved around her, she’d definitely swing it.
“I didn’t think Aunt Jenna would go that far.” Arya sighed. “I barely knew my mother so strangely, I don’t feel like crying.”
Damien looked down. That was also expected. “Don’t worry, as long as Jenna would end up in jail, your mother would also be avenged.”
“That’s not the same!” Anna snapped. “She will be going to jail for nearly killing Arya. It’s not the same thing as being punished for actually killing. The sentences are different…”
“You heard him, right?” Arya interrupted. “There is no proof. Maybe Debby had something but we can’t get a hold of it. We can’t take her to court based on someone’s narrative.”
Anna glared at her sister and Arya looked away. That was the truth anyway, no matter how much it hurt. They had no proof so Jenna would have to pass this one out.
“I wonder if our father knew about this. How could he make out with the woman that killed the mother of his kids! Did we mean nothing at all to him?” Arya rubbed her temples.
Her father? Anna balled her fists.
Her father deserved to be punished, as well. He was a despicable man and the root of all the problems.
If he never loved their mother, then he shouldn’t have agreed to a contract marriage with her in the first place.
He should have stayed with the one he loved. He was really the root of all the problems.
Damien’s phone rang and he picked it up immediately. “Yes? Did you find her?” he stood up.
Anna and Arya looked up at him. Was it Jenna?
They noticed Damien’s facial expression change. “I don’t think she did it but you can add it to her crimes if you want.”
The two sisters turned to each other. What else did Jenna do?
Damien turned to the two when he hung up. “Your father might not have been involved in the explosion. He was held hostage and later killed by Debby and Chen.”
“Killed?” Arya flew from her chair.
Anna fell to hers. “He was killed? They found his body there?” She couldn’t believe her ears.
She had wished for her father to be punished but not by death. And being killed by Debby?
If he wasn’t involved in the explosion, didn’t that make his death a casualty? Wasn’t be a victim?
Damien nodded. “Yes. Jenna’s there also but unconscious. It was Chen’s parting gift. They didn’t find him in the building.”
