Chapter Eighty-Seven – Dogs for dogs.
Arya was almost panicking due to the chaos happening outside. How would she sneak there and drag Connor back?
She found herself hoping Damien would come back and stop Connor. He was still a kid so if the media target him, his future career could be in trouble.
She understood his rage but his actions weren’t justifiable.
“You don’t listen, do you! Leave my cousin alone!” Connor screamed at someone. “Go away, all of you!!”
A woman stayed back, yelling questions at him. “Who are you exactly to the Wades family? Are you his only surviving relative, Connor Williams Wade?”
Hearing his father’s name, Connor took out his whistle and began blowing it. Barks from the back of the house could be heard. He smirked. “Wait a minute, I’d answer that soon.”
The sounds of howling dogs came from the backyard. “Some pitbulls are coming, and I’d be opening the gate soon.”
Some media men began going backwards. “We just need to speak with Damien.” “What are you doing?” “Please, wait!”
“Or should I bring a water hose?” Connor asked loudly, ignoring their pleas. He shook the gate padlock like he was about opening it and more people ran back.
When the dogs ran to the gate, the majority sprinted off as well. Arya shut the door behind her in fear to prevent any dog from jumping on her.
She didn’t know the Wades had such lethal weapon. And that Connor could be violent, even if no one sustained any bodily harm. But this will teach the media to avoid the mansion.
The sounds of reversing cars confirmed to Arya that the media had finally gone out. She smiled to herself.
She looked up and found Selena, walking out with a suitcase.
“Wait, Connor just finished dealing with the media.”
“Yeah, they must be gone then. I have a shoot.” She said nonchalantly, walking out.
She opened the door and Arya nearly screamed that pitbulls were out there but she walked out still.
When Arya peeked out she found the dogs marching back to the backyard with Connor. Selena strolled past Connor without saying anything. Did she support what he just did?
Just then she turned and Arya thought she was going to scold him but she said. “Next time, use a water hose. Air hose is expensive to refill, you know.”
“I had thought of that.” Connor smirked and walked off.
Arya’s jaw was literally on the floor. She supported him? And was recommending a water hose to use instead? Was this a normal reoccurrence or what?
Selena left to the garage, picked her car and soon left the mansion, very unbothered.
Arya placed her hand on her chest, to calm it down from the pitter patter it was making. The Wades really had wild way of doing things. She smiled. She was kinda into it though.
“At least, the media will know this building was out of bounds.” She said out loud.
“You wish.” Connor said from behind her.
She turned and smiled at him. “I wish?”
“Yeah, this isn’t the first time they’ve come here. It might not be the last. This is the third. We chase them, they come again. That’s why Damien bought the dogs.” He explained.
A cold shiver ran down Arya’s spine. It was Damien who bought the dogs? He must’ve been really pissed.
“The first time they came was when Mr. Wade died. They thought it was a rumor since he was really healthy. He had died of stroke though.” Connor brought out a finger.
He brought out another finger. “The second time was when Damien was elected CEO of the company. They revolted like it was their business. They came here again.”
Arya chuckled. “It must have frustrated Damien so much that he bought dogs. And the air hose and water hose?”
“Well, those are things we already own. They are specifically for Selena’s fans and stalkers that come here to bother her.” Connor shrugged.
Arya shook her head. Being popular was really stressful. And wasn’t harassing fans going to reduce Selena’s popularity? But she didn’t seen to care, as long as they didn’t bother her.
“Our family is quite agile, I’m glad I saw this side of us.” Arya teased. The conversation she had with Lucy flashed through her head and she became alert again.
They could be a spy at the Wade’s mansion. She pulled Connor aside and dragged him to the living room.
He looked surprised. “Did something happen?”
“You know how my cousin gave Damien a letter from Debby asking her to spy on us?” She raised a brow.
Connor nodded, folding his arms. “She refused, right?”
“Yeah but she said Debby knew of her rejection immediately, including the fact she visited his company to tell him.” Arya ran her hands through her hair. “There is a spy there.”
At the Wade’s company? Connor’s eyes enlarged. How could Debby’s mafia men infiltrate that place? There was no way there were any mafia within the company.
“I’m suspecting Debby is using an acquaintance she had while she was still working with the Wades.” Arya added.
That part made sense and Connor found himself nodding. “Do you want me to call and tell Damien now? He’s probably on his way home though.”
“We should wait till he gets home. There could be a spy here too. My cousin has one at her workplace. Debby threatened her job also. We need to be careful.” Arya suggested.
It was beginning to feel like an action thriller movie of some sort. Connor smirked, feeling excited. “They can’t be a spy here. All our servants and cooks never liked Debby.”
Arya remembered Debby not being served when she housed here and she even had to eat out. It must be true.
“Well, if the house is clear then we need to look out for the company, my university and even your school. My cousin has a suspect already.” Arya informed.
Connor rubbed his palms, getting into the spy mission thing. “We’d be careful then. Our enemies could be anywhere.”
Arya smiled at his acting, she patted his shoulders. “Let’s calm down first till Damien comes back. He went to get information on Jenna so that could help us too.”
The door to the living room opened and they both snapped their heads at the door, expecting Damien.
Arya’s lips curled up in disgust. What was he doing here again? Connor yelped. “Hey, Ken!” he ran to hug him.
Ken looked away from Arya and embraced Connor. “Hey, how are you? Since you’re doing nothing, wanna eat out with me?” he emphasized on the ‘nothing’.
Connor noticed it and glanced at Arya.
She huffed loudly. “Connor, it seems we have another nuisance we should chase. You should bring back those dogs.”
Ken chuckled. “You are the one that is out of place in this house. You’re only fortunate you can’t be sent out.”
“What? Are you forgetting to thank me for letting Kane pick you up that day? You clearly have no manners.” Arya sighed, walking away.
Connor stared at her puzzled. “What are you two…”
“Manners? With you?” Ken snapped back at Arya, then rolled his eyes. “You should be glad I didn’t gag on seeing you.”
Connor grinned. So Ken and Arya were quarrel buddies.
It wasn’t uncommon for Ken to socialize with someone with arguments but Arya matching his energy was impressive.
Arya had enough and shook her head. “I’d leave you with that specie of human, Connor! Toss him out when you’re done.”
“I’d take myself out, thank you.” Ken said back.
When Arya was gone, Ken smiled, turning to Connor. “Wanna eat out? And what dogs were she talking about?” Connor nodded, while laughing and walking to the exit.
