Chapter Eighty-Six – Unhinged.
After Lucy left with Chandelle, Arya quickly dismissed herself from Winx and rushed home.
If Debby was planting spies at these strategic places, then she could have one at her school too. Could they be one at the Wade’s Mansion?
The servants, security guards? Debby’s goal was just to make Damien suspect all his workers, wasn’t it?
“This is bad. Damien worked with people based on trust. If Debby was taking advantage of it because she knew that, then she was being very cruel.”
Kane opened the car door when he saw Arya heading towards him. “I hope you had a good day at school?”
She forced a smile and sat at the back. “I sure did. Thank you for coming.” She needed to get home quickly to Damien.
He should be able to weed out the spy at his company before Debby would cause any major damage.
Arya’s mind hadn’t settled on what exactly her aunt Jenna had done that gave Debby leverage over her.
Damien had also confirmed that Aunt Jenna might not just be working with Debby but a blackmail was what sealed the deal.
Perhaps her aunt had a dark secret Debby threatened to expose. Maybe bribery or theft of public funds, her aunt used to be a government worker before.
“But would Debby know much about America’s government system?” She wondered. Then it may not be her chokehold on her Aunt.
It must have been something very dangerous that aunt Jenna was risking everything to cover up. Something that she wouldn’t mind killing her niece for.
Arya shook her head, nothing came to her mind, after all, she didn’t know her aunt on a personal level.
Kane watched Arya from the side mirror. “You look troubled, Miss Arya. Is anything the matter?”
Arya wasn’t sure if Kane knew the details of the Debby case. She didn’t want to share her latest discovery either.
“No, not really. Tests are coming up next week so I’m quite nervous about it, that’s all.” She replied.
On arriving at the Wade’s mansion, Arya found the media storming the gate of the place. Kane began reversing when a media man spotted him.
“Sir Damien! Sir Damien?!” he yelled alerting the rest who began running after the car.
“Keep your head down, Miss Arya.” Kane told her with a calm voice. “I’d lose these mad people then follow the back gate.”
Arya wondered what brought the media to her safe sanctuary as well, where these media unhinged?
She checked her phone to know if there was any news that would warrant the media storming the Wade’s mansion.
She saw information on a site about the explosion at her house and people linking it to him after someone spotted his car around the vicinity.
Arya clenched her fists. It would be Debby who framed it.
She knew Damien would come around so took pictures to spread on the internet. She always attacked them in ways that would involve the media, Arya detested it.
However, the case was easier than others. Damien’s car being around the vicinity didn’t mean he’s related to the explosion.
The media should ask the owners of the house what caused the explosion instead. They were bothering the wrong people.
Kane swerved towards a straight lane. There was a gate there but it slowly opened without being operated on.
Arya shifted closer to see if a security guard had opened it.
“Oh no, this gate doesn’t need anyone to man it. It would open if it spots any of Damien’s cars before it. It has a sensor connected to the cars.” Kane explained proudly.
Arya smiled, resting back. As expected of one of the top engineers in the country. She was driven to the backyard and the car stopped. “The media will stay there for a while, right?”
“Yes, but I’d go forward to keep the car in the garage, if they see I followed another route, they’d be convinced to leave.”
That was a hopeful wish. They could become infuriated and try looking for the backyard gate to burn it down. “Okay then, take care.” Arya said and sneaked into the house.
Her first destination was her room. She slammed the door open but became disappointed when Damien wasn’t in it. Had he not returned? She ran to the living room.
Connor was watching a show. “Yo! Welcome back!”
Arya quickly nodded and ran back to her room, checking the bathroom and then Damien’s study.
He really wasn’t in the house. That was bad because he’d meet the media when returning home, if they don’t leave.
There was a knock on the door, Arya turned.
“Hey, is there a problem?” Connor asked.
“I have something to tell Damien, about Debby. Well, he’s not home and the media are outside.” She groaned.
Connor folded his arms. “Outside the gate? Why?”
Arya sighed. “Turns out that Debby planted a camera, awaiting Damien, around my house that day. The media now wants to know Damien’s connection to the explosion.”
Connor’s facial expression changed to anger. “They really came to ask him about the explosion? Can’t they figure out who the owner of the house is first?”
Arya shrugged. “Maybe they think it’s another attack to him. They’re wondering if the property was his…?”
“That rundown apartment?” Connor scoffed. “My cousin would never buy something like that. They’re crazy.”
Arya frowned, but let it go. The house was gone anyway. It could never be the place she grew up in anymore.
Before she could reply to his comment, Connor stomped off murmuring some words. The one thing she head was ‘air hose’. She wondered what he wanted to do with it.
She ran out to catch up with him. Two chefs were running out of the kitchen towards the gate.
Arya stayed at the door to see what was happening. If she came any closer, the media would see her.
“What’s he doing?” Arya’s eyes widened as she saw Connor marching to the gate with an air hose.
The media began yelling questions at him from the other side. “Where’s Sir Damien?” “We want to see Sir Damien?” “Who are you?” “Are you a relative to the Wades?”
Connor, ignoring them, turned on the air hose and it made a rattling sound that startled the media men. “Leave now or I’d vaporize all of you!”
Arya’s jaw fell, she wanted to run out and drag him back but it was too risky. His actions wouldn’t help their matter at all, it would only bring hate to the Wades.
“We need to see Sir Damien first about an explosion at…”
Before the man could finish, the air hose was on his face and he fell backwards. Others behind him began running back.
Seeing others still standing around, Connor increased it to it’s max and kept it on the gate. “Leave my cousin alone! You guys are too obsessed with him! He doesn’t owe you anything!”
Cameras began taking shots of his actions and he didn’t give a damn. He pointed the hose at a woman trying to take a closer shot of him.
She fell back, breaking her camera. “Get the hell out of our property! Leave my cousin alone!”
