Chapter Eighty-Eight – Faked.
Damien found himself at the door of Diablo’s bar again.
He adjusted his mask and knocked on the door. The huge man opened for him and he sprinted his way to Diablo’s little office. He knocked again and was offered entry.
“You are still wearing this mask.” Diablo laughed, clearing the files on his table to reveal another file underneath them. “I figured out who Jenna Marbles is, that’s why I called.”
“That’s why I came.” Damien exhaled, taking off his mask.
Diablo placed a picture of two girls on the desk. “I actually don’t know Jenna Marbles. I found this picture in a school year book. They were two sisters who won a beauty contest.”
Damien gazed at the picture. He recognized one of the ladies, she looked a lot like Anna but had Arya’s body structure. She must have been their mother, Jenna’s sister.
“What does her sister have to do with Jenna? Her sister is currently dead.” Damien asked.
“Yeah, she is named Juliet Marbles. The woman I knew. Not Jenna Marbles. But Juliet had once mentioned her sister.” Diablo explained.
Juliet? Damien recalled Anna saying that too. Her mother was a Juliet who never met her Romeo because their father had been a horrible husband.
“Yes, her name is Juliet. She’s the one you knew?”
“Hmm.” Diablo nodded. “She frequented my bar because I once sold cheese on wholesale as a side business. One time she got drunk here and began spilling family issues.”
Damien narrowed his eyes at him. Why should a married lady be getting drunk at a bar? He sighed. “She said what then?”
“Something about her sister, Jenna, and her husband being in an affair. She said she wasn’t brave enough to confront them because she feared her husband would divorce her.”
Damien felt his heart break on hearing that. Anna had already confirmed that her aunt and her father had a history together but for their dead mother to have also been aware, it was sad.
“That’s all she said?” He asked.
Diablo smirked. “Well, sort of. It’s been a while so any other she said must have been trivial but what caught my attention was that she died of diabetes and kidney failure.”
He handed a file to Damien that had the hospital records of Juliet Marbles. “I had a police friend help me get that.”
Damien smiled, he knew Diablo had many friends. Still, he didn’t get where he was going. “The records also said she died of kidney failure and diabetes. What’s wrong?”
Diablo exhaled. “Juliet was no alcoholic. She was a good mother who wanted healthy foods for her kids hence she came here every week to get cheese.”
Damien looked back at the report. What did that mean then?
“Also, Juliet never said she had kidney failure or diabetes when I offered her a drink once. She accepted because she was heavily burdened. Only that one time.” Diablo continued.
“We weren’t close, she was just a customer who cared for her kids that I sympathized with as if I didn’t have kids then. She wasn’t sick of anything so I question her death.” He added.
Damien scratched his head and parted his hair from his face. “So you’re saying her records were faked?” he asked Diablo, who nodded then took out another picture of a man.
“Yeah, by a doctor who was Jenna’s college friend. Or at least, they went to the same college. And yes, I suspect Jenna. She had an affair with her sister’s husband anyway.” He said.
The pieces were adding up. The doctor was also a Chinese doctor who recently committed suicide after being threatened by a group of mafia men about something.
It wouldn’t be hard for Debby to get entail on all his dirty works and if she linked any one to Arya’s family name then she could easily figure out Jenna’s secret.
Was that the blackmail she had on Jenna? It didn’t feel like anything Jenna would be willing to kill Arya for, unless she also hated her sister’s children as well.
Or did Debby have something extra to blackmail her with?
“So Jenna killed her sister and faked it.” Damien shook his head. “And she had been living with this for all these years?”
Arya and Anna only knew their mother died of an illness, they were young to understand what it was or they’d have figured their mother wasn’t an alcoholic.
“I’d send in more money for this. Thank you so much. I don’t know if it’s possible to get the original result, that is the original cause of Juliet’s death.”
Diablo cocked his head. “Well, that’ll be difficult. He must’ve discarded it. It’d surely not be in any file the hospital has.”
True. He’d have to cover his tracks as well.
And the doctor being dead meant there was no one to testify against Jenna for killing her sister. They didn’t have concrete proof too, except Diablo’s knowledge of Juliet.
“We might not be able to chase this case, it’s been too long as well. However, I now know what Jenna is being blackmailed for. They might be more too.” Damien took out his phone.
Connor had been calling him for hours already. He had to call back or he’d blow up his phone. “Yes, Junior. I’m not yet…”
“Oh, sorry. I left the house and nearly forgot but Arya wanted to tell you something about Debby having spies in the Wade’s company and her cousin’s workplace.” Connor said.
Damien’s eyes enlarged and Diablo gave him a questioning look. “Okay, I’d hurry home now. Thank you.”
He hung up the call and packed all the pictures and intel that Diablo gave him. “I’d head home now. Expect a payment and keep looking for whatever you can for me. Thank you.”
Diablo nodded with a small bow. “No problem, boss.”
Damien sped out before he finished. How could Debby have infiltrated his company? Was it her old friends from her time at work? What information did she get from there?
His hands went to his phone but he dropped it back in his pocket. “I should head home first and talk to Arya before asking Ken to do anything.”
He switched on the radio as he got into the car and began hurrying home. What was being discussed made him freeze.
The media went to his home? He listened carefully at what the ladies were saying. It was a talk show centered around something that happened that afternoon, at his mansion.
The talk spiraled for a while about Sir Damien’s involvement with the explosion. Damien had earlier seen that news but decided to ignore it as he didn’t want to involved Arya.
For the media to get to his house to ask him, they must be starved of content that involved him. How did it get to this?
“Since Connor is out then maybe he wasn’t home when they came.” Damien hoped.
He knew his cousin had issues with these kinds of situations and wouldn’t hesitate to release dogs.
He finally got to his estate and was relieved to see no one waiting for him at the gate. Just then the talk show lady said. “Connor Williams Wade. He had harassed reporters.”
Damien stopped his car in front of the gate, then rested his head on the steering wheels. “Why? Connor why?”
