Chapter Fifty-five – Grim Reaper.
Connor took another step away from her. What was with his sister-in-law on such a good morning?
Her whole attire; from the long straight dress to the gloves, shoes and beanie were BLACK. Connor had made sure that she wasn’t going to a burial but was stunned that she was heading to her school.
Something must have fallen off her head.
He glanced at Damien, who drove towards them, totally ignoring Arya’s strange attire.
“I’d stay in the front this time.” Connor opted and hurried sat besides his cousin. He wasn’t sure what was with Arya yet.
Arya sulked a little but slowly nodded, it would be better if she wasn’t seen in the front seat with Damien so that Winx wouldn’t think they’re romantic.
“Junior, I’d drop you at school first. I have to meet with someone at Arya’s university…”
“Did someone die?” Junior couldn’t help but ask Damien.
Arya frowned. Was it her attire?
Since Winx would be meeting with Damien, Arya thought it best to wear gloomy attires that would let Winx shine more. Winx was the price here.
Damien smirked in response to Junior’s question. “I hope not. I’m just meeting a friend of hers for a proper introduction.”
Junior hesitated but faked a smile. “Do as you wish.”
His tone and words triggered Damien but he chose to overlook it at that point.
‘Do as you wish’; those were the words Junior said to him when he learnt of his father’s condition.
Mrs. Wade had hidden the fact his father was still in the hospital even when the doctor said he might never recover from the coma. To Connor, letting the man die was better than leaving him alone in trapped solitude.
“Do as I wish, huh?” Damien wondered if Connor had learnt of another secret he didn’t agree to. He glanced at the boy and viewed him staring angrily into space.
No possible reason to came to his mind so he brushed it off.
Connor was dropped at school and then Arya and Damien continued to the university.
“So, what’s up with your clothes today?” Damien asked, watching her from the corner of his eyes.
“Oh nothing. Just how I feel today.” She shrugged.
Damien drove into the university building. “Well, even if you have no one to impress at university, dressing like this will make you look unfriendly. Do you want Winx to be your only friend?”
Arya was about to respond when her heart immediately rose into her mouth. She looked down at her clothes. “Damn, what am I wearing?”
She noticed the side eye Damien gave her and faked a smile. She was regretting her actions already.
In as much as she didn’t want to steal the spotlight from Winx, she should’ve put in extra effort to look presentable to. For Seth.
“Seth had asked about me yesterday, he’d surely be looking out for me today. And I’m dressed like this!”
Her frustration was written all over her face, she delayed in getting out of the car.
Damien noticed and silently chuckle. “Her plan must have failed again or had some problems. And unlike before, I think this one involves me or else she wouldn’t bring me here.”
“Won’t you get down?” he asked softly.
She looked up at him and pouted. “Oh, yeah, I will.” But she still sat there, contemplating. And she didn’t bring spare clothes.
“Oh, um… since yesterday, I’ve been wanting to ask, does your best friend, Wing, know our marriage was arranged or she just knows we’re married.” He purposely messed up her name.
Arya’s face had a wrinkle, “It’s Winx, not Wing. And yes, she does…” she trailed off. Damn, she shouldn’t have told him.
Now, he could easily suspect her. She was bringing him to a friend that knew their relationship wasn’t romantic. He could easily assume she has ulterior motives. She did.
Damien stared into space then sighed. “That’s nice. You have a friend to trust with such secrets. Soon I’d introduce you to my friend who I trust with my secrets too. He’s Ken.”
“Pen?” Arya asked.
Damien smiled. Was she paying back for messing up her friend’s name? “Actually, you can call him anything. At my house, we barely use our names. Like Connor, junior, Selena, princess and me, as Sir. Call Ken whatever you want as long as he accepts it. I’d really like you guys to get along.”
Arya stared at him. When he was speaking of this friend she had never met, his voice sounded soft. It must be a really important person to him.
But she didn’t ask further. He just said that he hoped they get along which might meant this Ken was a difficult person.
She won’t be surprised, after all, he hadn’t tried meeting with his friend’s wife since their marriage.
“Alright, let’s get down, shall we?”
Arya felt all tingly as Damien held unto her, leading her out of the car. She retracted her hand when she was down, though a red streak remained on her face.
“Will you wait a bit for me to call Winx out?” she asked. Coming into the school building with him will have people questioning their relationship.
Damien accepted and got back into the car. Arya set out to search for Winx.
She whipped out her phone to call but decided against it when she sighted the girls who usually bothered her.
To match with her black attire, she had use a dark-themed phone case for her phone.
The case was also Star Wars themed and as the girls were Star Wars fanatics, she didn’t want them thinking she was copying their style or trying to blend in with them. She was doing neither.
The girls gave her weird looks before walking away. She was glad they had no interaction.
“Arya?” someone called from behind her.
She froze. Seth. It was Seth.
“Oh, hey!” she tried to sound as cheerful as would be natural.
Seth’s eyes went down on her clothes and his eyebrows raised, “Why the grim reaper outfit today?” he chuckled.
She smiled at the joke even if she felt really embarrassed. He was just walking into school and the first thing he saw was her in a grim reaper attire.
“Winx just told me that you were ill yesterday, sorry, I should have called.” He added. Her cheeks flushed. He was being really nice but then her eyes lit up.
Winx just told him? That meant Winx was outside, right? With Damien? Her plan!
