Chapter Fifty-Six – Rude Man.
Damien looked down at Arya’s friend with a plastered smile.
Winx was an inch shorter than Arya but more built and she exuded confidence, or at least talked like she did.
She had been chattering none stop since she identified him, he was only glad that she had spoken with Seth before she identified him or she would have pulled the boy with her.
“So, what I mean is, the Wades group are more reliable than what media pushes out. I never told Arya but I really really respect the family she married into.”
“Thank you. I’m deeply honored.” Damien responded with a small bow. Immediately after, Winx jumped unto another topic of conversation and Damien could only mentally sigh.
Hadn’t Arya gone to look for the girl? But she was right here in front of him. Damien’s mind went to Seth going into the building. He might meet with Arya.
A small frown came to his face but he wiped it off by rubbing his face. “Yeah, um… Winx, I’m grateful you think highly of me but… it is thanks to my predecessors.” He replied.
Win beamed. “So humble! Well, even still…” she rumbled on.
Damien bit his lips trying to hold it all in. Earlier he wanted to cut her short with ‘… think highly of me but please go away for now’ but he deemed it rude to say to an enthusiastic fan.
Also, Anya wouldn’t appreciate his tone with her friend.
Shortly, Arya came running towards them. Damien hid his excited face. “Hey! You two! You met already?” Arya asked.
Winx smiled, waving at her. “Good morning. I met him outside so decided to introduce since we talked yesterday.”
Arya nodded proudly. Winx was making a move without even knowing her plans, she liked that. However, looking at Damien’s face, she was sure he didn’t enjoy the introduction.
“I don’t think I have anything else to say then. How about we have lunch together later? Would you be free Damien?”
Winx and Damien snapped their head at Arya together. Wasn’t lunch together a bit too soon? And what if someone spots them together?
“I don’t know what’s going on in your head but I feel it greatly involves me, and I don’t like it.” Damien said inwardly.
He knew Arya wouldn’t eat out with him in public places but she suddenly wanted to do so with a friend? Is it for the friend’s sake or his? Or both’s?
Winx slightly nudged her friend’s sides, shaking get head. “No, that’s fast. Maybe let’s get to know ourselves more.”
“Know yourselves more while eating tog…”
“Aren’t you two having classes soon? Go and prepare. Arya, they’d be plenty of time to eat out with you and your friend.” Damien cut her short.
Winx gasped and began running back into the building. “I didn’t finish my project!” she yelled as she left. Arya sighed and ran along with her, without saying goodbye to Damien.
He stood there for a while before sighing, accepting the fact she just left him. “Maybe being friends with Winx will help me get closer to her but as she’s forcing it, I feel uneasy.”
He got back into the car and drove to work. The incident still playing in his head. Maybe Arya was just excited to introduce her best friend to him?
She wasn’t open about her likes or dislikes to him, this Winx was her first ‘like’ that she was sharing.
Maybe he’s reading too much into it. Or was he overlooking something huge? Suddenly, he stepped on the brakes, startled by a car that drove in front of his!
“Hey!! Watch the road, shithead!” the driver yelled at him with disdain.
He frowned. “Excuse me but you came in front of-”
“What’s that, pretty boy? Your voice is so small I can barely hear ya!” The man screamed, sticking his arm out of his car.
Other drivers paused watching the scene. Damien had a thin line across his forehead. “I’m saying you should leave the road so I can pass, Sir.”
“Sir? Don’t sir me! You’re the Sir yourself, right? Damien or whatever. You spoilt rich kids don’t even know your place sometimes, do ya!” the man sounded angrier.
Damien stared at the man for a second, before looking down. He had to catch his cool to avoid during anything illegal.
Yet, immediately afterwards, his car crashed into the man’s car, sending it backwards and hitting a pole.
Other drivers dispersed immediately. It was a small accident but the man was unconscious.
A police van drove towards them and Damien didn’t bother run off. If the man had been directly in front of him, he would have made sure he lost an eye when he’d crash unto the pole.
“What’s this accident? What’s going on here?” the police officer asked before looking into his car. “Oh, Sir Damien? Sir- Sir, what happened…?”
“That man threatened me. There’s a gun in his car that he’d have used to assault me. He’s also quite drunk.” He replied, shutting his eyes. “I’m sorry but I only defended myself.”
The police man widened his eyes and ran to the other car. Sure enough there was a gun lying at the bottom of the car. A hunting gun. The policeman frowned, nodding. “I see.”
A small smirk graced Damien’s face and he cleared his throat. “I’d come to the police station later, sir. Right now, I have to see my mother. She hasn’t fully recovered from the trauma of being kidnapped.”
A concerned look appeared on the policeman’s face and he waved his hands. “Don’t worry about coming to the station, Sir Damien. This man was drunk driving and also threatened you. It’s as clear as daylight what must be done.”
“Thank you. I’d hurry off now.” Damien gave a small bow and drove off. An expressionless face replaced the smirk he had on before. “I should stop doing this.” He told himself.
He was lucky to have noticed the little signs of drunkenness from the man’s speech and behavior.
Also, the man had a tattoo which were common amongst hunters so he quickly assumed he was a hunter coming back from a hunting trip since it was early in the morning.
If there was no gun in the car, his excuse would have been flopped. Also, he couldn’t ascertain how drunk the man was to know if he could still drive.
“Either ways, he was rude to me and deserved what he got. That’s the bottom line.” He mumbled, accelerating further.
