Chapter Forty-Five – Hotel room.
The cheeks of the receptionist reddened as Damien smiled at her and complimented her Christmas hat.
She had thought it was silly as it wasn’t yet Christmas but was glad that someone thought it was cheerful.
Damien looked at the room he just acquired. It should serve as matrimonial bedroom to he and Arya for the mean time.
Though the bed was small, so he asked for another bed to be brought in. Arya would surely feel uncomfortable if they had to lay too close to each other.
He didn’t want a VIP room, which would surely have a bigger room, as he wasn’t hundred percent sure Chen’s boys will let him be.
He couldn’t stay in any of his bought apartments as they could attack it at anytime. However, no matter how sick Chen was, he’d never openly attack at a hotel.
The phone in Damien’s hand began to ring and he entered the room, then carefully closed the door behind him. “Hello?”
“That’s cold.” She said with a small voice.
“What did you expect?” He scoffed. “I’d speak happily with you when you tried killing my wife and hurt people I care about? Huh, Debby?”
The caller was Debby, actually worried about Damien and wanted to know if her cousin had accidentally hurt him.
Hearing him speak clearly yet cold, assured her he was okay.
Debby rubbed her temples and sighed. “Your wife? Stop calling her that. And you should have kept Chen there as leverage if you wanted me to stop my attacks on her.”
She took a sip from her glass of juice. Not like she’d ever stop coming after Arya. Since her intentions of wanting Damien had been blown, then she’d go full villain.
If she couldn’t have him, no one, especially a low life human, would ever get him.
“You wouldn’t stop.” Damien replied. “It’s not like you value Chen half as much as he values you. You won’t care if I kill him, that’s how silly you can be.” Damien replied.
Debby’s eyes narrowed at the door in front of her. She was in a restaurant in China. “Silly? Determined, yes. But not silly…”
“It’s silly, Debby.” Damien cut her short. “And that’s because you’d never get what you want. I’d protect Arya and soon put you behind bars. You know I can do it.”
There was silence at the other side, before Debby scoffed. “Don’t underestimate me.”
“Don’t overestimate yourself.” Damien hung up.
Someone was approaching the room. He opened the door before they got close but exhaled, seeing it was a worker.
“Oh to get the room ready? Sure, please. I’d return within five hours. Thank you.” He left afterwards.
(At the Wade’s mansion)
Connor slid through the railings of the stairs and landed with his butt on the ground. He didn’t mind and stood right up, rushing to the door.
The bag of supplies he packed, to relocate to the hotel Damien would provide, crashed below the stairs.
Mrs. Wade slowly opened the door on hearing the sound but was jumped on by her nephew, she nearly lost her balance but she smiled. “Oh, Junior.”
Connor rubbed her back soothingly, “Were you okay? Damien seemed to have settled with them already.”
Her face folded to a frown. Her son had settled it already? She didn’t hear that part in the news? Does that mean he settled it outside the legal means? What was he thinking?
Connor detached from her, seeing her annoyed expression. “I have no idea how he settled it but I believe it’s for the best.”
His Aunt glared at him before keeping her hands on her waist. Connor went back as he knew an outburst was about to start.
“I was tied, hands and feet, in an abandoned place! I wasn’t beaten, yes, but that’s still humiliating. He’d ignore it? This is Debby, right? Which Chinese mafia have a grudge against us?”
Connor had thought of the possibility of it being orchestrated by Debby but the reminder made him deeply annoyed. His face folded as well. “For real though! How dare that bitch!”
He hated her, even before she had guts to hurt his family.
“Damien better tell me what he’s up to. If he’s going to ignore this because of the girl or due to an old favor, I’d not allow it!” Mrs. Wade pointed at Connor before stomping off.
Connor could only watch her leave with slumped shoulders. He couldn’t begin to imagine what his cousin was thinking that made him ignore such threat.
Debby knew them personally and her attacks would always hit home. She resented his wife hence her attack on not just her but Anna.
Also, Debby fell out with Selena and she hates him as he hates her. It wouldn’t be long before she’d come after Damien’s other family members.
Getting rid of her, legally or illegally would be the best way.
“Or is that his plan already?” Connor asked himself out loud. His head began working millions of reasons.
Taking the case legally would be like child’s play. Also, what proof would they use exactly?
What would be the reason for wanting Debby pegged? She tried to kill his wife because of a quarrel? And Debby was a minor so it’d have less effect.
“Not to add that she isn’t even in the country now, and the person she sent had been released by Damien. I think it’s best to fight this out without the media. Illegally.” Connor said.
The door to his right opened and Arya walked out, pulling a bag of supplies. Connor frowned, remembering how Debby tried killing her. “I don’t think she should know this.”
After successfully taking her bag to the door, Arya turned and frowned on seeing Connor. “You’ve been there watching me pull. Why didn’t you offer a helping hand?”
“What? It’s not that heavy.” Connor smirked, walking towards the bag.
Arya rolled her eyes before taking out her phone. “My sister hasn’t called me since. Was she really released? Or maybe she didn’t think I’d be involved?”
Connor paused his way to the bag and exhaled. He was sure Anna had been released but the lady would have questions.
If she checked her phone, then she’d see the calls that were made to her sister and reason that she may be involved.
Either ways, a lie would be enough to calm her nerves. A lie that it was nothing to worry about.
“My aunt just came back. This will end like a bad memory. I doubt Anna’s kidnappers said anything about you. Tell her to ignore. It wouldn’t happen again.” Connor advised.
“How am I to know that? How’d I guarantee that when I don’t even know who attacked?” Arya asked agitatedly.
A defeated sigh left Connor’s lips. Maybe he should just tell her? She had the right to know.
“Arya!” someone called from behind them.
Connor and Arya turned to Selena, walking in with a cat in her hands. “Don’t let Anna know this. It’s more dangerous if she figures you’re involved. Let it stay between us, the Wades.”
Connor nodded in agreement. It was be best that way.
At first, Arya was stunned that Selena actually accepted her as part of the Wades. But then she remembered that Damien had promised her protection as she was part of his family.
It made her cheek redden. She looked down. “I understand.”
