Chapter Forty-Three – Say please.
It was after Arya had found herself at the street of Anna’s apartment that she realized that Damien hadn’t given her a place to go. He had just said to leave.
She had driven to her sister’s home as that was her only comfort place but her sister wouldn’t be in, prior to the kidnap. “Maybe I’m really stupid.” she groaned.
It had been a scare, driving on the highway to get to that address. Would she suffer all that again? And where’d be her destination next?
She glanced at Connor who was asleep again. “Hey! Hey!! Do you know anywhere we can crash at?”
The young man opened his left eye to look at her then grumpily sat straight. “He didn’t give you an address?”
“If he did, I wouldn’t be asking you now.” She snapped.
He whipped out his phone and began tapping buttons. “Few streets from here. There’s an apartment he bought. Your sister had helped him acquire it.”
Arya’s eyes enlarged, glad that she wouldn’t need to drive all the way to the highway again. She started the car and followed Connor’s direction.
“How big is the place?” she asked whilst driving. They got into the street of the supposed apartment.
“I think it’s a six bedroom apartment. Never seen it before.” The young man replied.
Arya froze before driving along.
A six bedroom apartment? What was the need when they were only a family of four? And they also had a family house already. But then her jaw dropped on seeing the ‘apartment’.
It was almost as big as the main mansion. “Oh finally. This could be a vacation spot for me later.” Connor said casually then jumped out the car.
“What do you mean!” Arya yelled to the heavens. The fact that people had such amount of money to spend on things they already had blew her head off.
She found the garage and parked the car inside.
She ran to the front desk where a man was seated and peered into his eyes intently.
Connor walked out of the little house besides the man, swinging keys. “Come on, let’s stay inside. That’s the house keeper here.”
Arya detached from the man and followed Connor like a lost puppy. The place looked like she walked into a private hotel, not like she knew what one would look like.
“Yeah…” Connor sighed, collapsing on the couch. “I hope the bomber was handled. I don’t want details, just to know.”
Arya sat besides him and folded her legs inside the couch. “Yeah, it was settled. Your aunt and my sister would be released soon.”
Connor snapped his head at her. “So my aunt was really taken?” he relaxed again. “That’s crazy. That bomber must have helped Damien before for him to be let go.”
Arya glanced at Connor with his last words ringing in her head. She still didn’t understand why Damien let the boy go.
The boy gave her dangerous vibe yet he was still intimidated by Damien. Why? Damien was the victim still he wasn’t acting like a victim.
“I can’t wrap my head around why Damien let him go but I’d let it slide. I don’t think I deserve to be targeted by a Chinese mercenary in the first place. I did nothing wrong.” Arya said.
Connor’s lips twitched when he heard ‘Chinese mercenary’. It was obvious to him who the offender was. Debby.
But since Arya hadn’t discovered, and Connor knew that she might never as Debby didn’t seem significantly dangerous, he’d let it slide as well.
“At the end, we are all safe so let this just be a memory. Worse things had happened to Damien. It comes with being rich and popular.” Connor replied.
A heavy ball of saliva slid down Arya’s throat.
As wife of such a person, she had to get used to such attacks.
Her legs came down and she rested her head on the armrest. “Okay then. I’d dismiss it as a memory. And you, Connor, tell me about the heartbreak you faced?”
The end of Connor’s lips twitched again on hearing that. He sprang to his feet. “I want that to be a memory of mine as well. What good would remembering it do me.”
“Didn’t it just happen?” Arya asked again.
“Still.” Connor quickly answered. “I don’t want to talk about it. I’d handle the aftermath of all the compressed emotions.”
He received a small nod from Arya and a thumps up, telling him to ‘hang on’. He smiled at her before looking away.
After that he walked into a room on the left. Arya wasn’t aware that a visitor’s room was nearby and she was feeling really sleepy already.
“Am I just supposed to sleep here? I haven’t been here before and…” she sighed. Rich folks really lived in a different world.
Where they going to move to that house? And start all over? Their current mansion would become a crime scene so they wouldn’t be in it for a while.
Moving houses had been one of the scariest things for Arya to experience. Mostly due to her mother’s death and things turning drastic with their father’s change in behaviors.
It became harder for her when her elder sister left the house. Moving and relocation had been traumatizing since then.
Just when Arya was almost asleep on the couch, her phone beeped. A message just got in. She rolled to her sides and struggled to get the phone out of her purse she was on.
The message was from her dad. “I need some cash now. About two thousand dollars. Hurry and send it.”
His audacity chased away all sleep from her and she rose to her feet, glaring at the message. His tone and bizarre request. Did he forget that he sold her for money?
He didn’t lend her out, he sold her! Meaning he had no daughter. At the time, it didn’t seem like a problem to him. And what did he do with the last cash he received?
She could barely wrap her head around the message, despite being an inch worried about what was wrong.
“I’d show you that I’m also good at being petty. You didn’t apologize for you actions yet just texted me? Like that?” she gritted her teeth painfully.
She tapped the send button and huffed. “Let the games begin!”
Meanwhile at the other end. Aunt Jenna smirked, seeing the reply of Arya. She was besides Mr. Stark who was asleep while she was playing away with his phone.
“So Arya grew wings? What does this reply mean?” Aunt Jenna chuckled lightly.
She re-read Arya’s reply again. “What does she mean? ‘Say please.’ Does she really expect her father to apologize to her? For what?”
Aunt Jenna deleted the message and tossed the phone besides Mr. Stark before laying besides him again.
