Chapter Forty – Bombs.
“I’d call the police!” Connor’s scream brought Damien back.
“No! Don’t!” he screamed back. “This’s beyond them for now. Let’s be sure how many survivors and the damage done first.”
Connor came down from the car, looking confused but he slipped back his phone into his pocket. “Fine. Let’s go in.”
His cousin nodded. With the way it looked, the culprits might have been long gone. If they dropped any message, it’d be inside the house.
“And if this is really Debby, she wouldn’t kill Selena or my mother. Neither would she keep a bomb waiting for us. I’d hope on that.” He whispered within himself.
His brain was yet to formulate why the little girl would go that far to show her hatred for his wife but he’d get that answer later.
“Arya, stay in the driver’s seat.” He gestured. “Lock it and be ready to run if anyone comes out after we go in, okay?”
She nodded and rushed to the seat. Her driving skills were poor but this was life or death so she should just help herself. She watched Connor and Damien crawl into the house.
Her hands became sweaty as she grasped the steering of the car, muttering prayers to God. What was happening? What was after her for crying out loud!
There was a bang in the house and she shut her fallen face up. There was smoke coming out of the door of the house. What was that? Was it a bomb explosion? Connor! Damien!
She squealed in fear and bent her head again, sobbing for minutes. “This isn’t true. Are they dead? What’s after me?”
Just then they was a pat on the car window.
Slowly and fearfully, she looked up but then gasped in relief. “You two. You escaped?”
Though Connor unconscious, Damien still had him on his shoulder. He laid him on the car seat and closed it again, gesturing to Arya to lock it.
“Where are you going?!” Arya screamed when he attempted returning to the house.
Damien paused, then flashed her a comforting smile. “It’s okay. I’m quite athletic, I can handle myself.”
That wasn’t her point. “Even if you can handle yourself, is the right thing not to call the police?”
Damien frowned. That was the last thing he should do now. The perpetrator of this shenanigan was inside his house.
He knew because the bomb had blown off to warn them when they came close. It was fixed at the far end of the house, making it the first thing they see as they walk in.
That was how they were able to escape it’s explosion as they immediately ran back. Debris from the bomb had hit Connor making him unconscious.
Either way, it’s obvious that someone saw them walk in before setting the bomb because they hadn’t done anything that would have set it and it wasn’t a time bomb.
“Arya, I know what I’m doing….”
“I’d really advise you to stay inside…”
“Arya!” he raised his voice.
He smiled at her again. “This isn’t the first time someone is after my life or that of my family. I’m a CEO and billionaire so believe me, this is usual.”
Arya couldn’t believe her ears. Being kidnapped and your house bombed was part of his life now? That was just sad.
She wiped off her tears. Maybe he was just trying to comfort her. Maybe he really knew what he was doing.
“Be careful then. I knew that agreeing to this marriage will take my peace and privacy, though I never planned to this degree. Either ways, be careful, please.” She mouthed.
Damien nodded and walked off. His hands clenched remembering Arya’s words. He didn’t want her regretting getting married to him, not ever.
He was also sure that whoever placed that bomb there didn’t want to kill him so kept it strategically where he’d easily see it. “If this is really Debby, then she’s in big trouble.”
He climbed the stairs, up to Selena’s room and swung it open.
A cackle welcomed him. “Hey, Damien!”
He knew that voice. Not Debby’s. But her ridiculous cousin, Chen, who was actually in love with her.
“Welcome to America!” Damien said sarcastically. “You have Selena and my mother, don’t you?”
“Only your mother, not your sister. I don’t have space for another young girl in my heart.” He replied, getting up the seat. “But my boys are around the spa she’s at, in case.”
Damien’s fists clenched again but he didn’t want Chen to see he was getting to him. “So tell me, what did I do to you this time? What’s the meaning of this attack…?”
“A bitch called Arya, you had married her. She insulted Deborah and stole something from her…”
“If there was anyone who got insulted that would be my wife, Arya! Debby shouldn’t even start with me! Is that why she’s blowing my house up!” He pointed at the young boy.
Chen was stunned by his outburst but a sadistic grin graced his face again. “You really like that Arya, right? Honestly, I think she’s pretty too…”
“I don’t care what you think of my wife. Answer my question first, Chen! What exactly does Debby have with Arya?”
Chen gritted his teeth, pissed that he kept being interrupted. “I don’t want to tell you, because you don’t need to know. But there’s a solution that’d help but if you….”
Damien grunted. “I am not interested in listening to your terms! Just tell me what is making Debby…”
“Could you shut up for a damn minute and let me talk!” Chen yelled, and tapped a button on his phone. The balcony at Selena’s room blew up and fell to the ground.
Damien was shocked. “You rigged everywhere with bombs before my coming, didn’t you? What’s this! Why’s she going this far!”
“You’re still talking, aren’t you?” Chen sighed, collapsing on the seat he left. “Well then, I’d tell you.”
Outside, Arya kept looking at the balcony that just landed. What was happening? It didn’t seem to have been affected by any external force but just fell on it’s own.
Was it a bomb? But nothing was thrown on the balcony. She looked back at Connor who was passed out, she glanced back at the house.
Was Damien even going to come out? She wanted to leave the car and know what’s going on.
“Aright! That’s it!” she slapped the door closed after stepping out. “They will not take him hostage. If it’s me you want, it’s me you’d get!” She ran inside the house.
