Chapter Fourteen – Texting.
Damien alighted the car and sighed, breathing in the air around his estate. He was going to start his walk down home as it was the only time he had to walk around freely.
The half a plot space for walking and football was his idea when building the house because he needed a lot of time to think before getting home.
As he took a step forward, while whipping out his phone to see the wedding pictures his mom sent, he heard the car door open again. He paused, his driver never walked with him but drove to the garage.
Turning behind him, he saw it was Debby, he sighed. “I forgot you came with me.”
The young girl frowned deeply. “I was with you all through in the car even if I sat behind. How could you forget my presence!”
Damien smiled, she was always being para. “C’mon let’s go in.”
He began making quick strides towards his mansion. He checked the pictures that his mom had sent him, he paused his steps when his eyes landed on Arya on the wedding dress.
“I know it’s not true that when girls smile at their phone it meant they were talking with boys. But for boys, I don’t know.” Debby scoffed.
Damien turned to her, what was she getting at now?
“Why are you smiling at your phone?” she asked directly.
His smile dropped, he hadn’t even realized he was smiling. He wanted to tell her about his marriage but decided to surprise her by seeing Arya for herself. “You’d see, come on.” They kept on walking.
Damien texted Arya just as he saw her online, through WhatsApp. She never responded quickly on that app but now he was sure she was doing nothing, possibly lying on the bed, his bed.
“Arya?”
He waited almost ten seconds before he got a reply. “OMG, I heard you were sent pictures. I can explain.” Arya replied.
In his room, she was pacing about, having wrinkled on her forehead. She had been thinking of how’d she face Damien and explain that their first meeting as her romance counselor was a misunderstanding.
But then Mrs. Wade told her that she had earlier sent pictures of the wedding to her son.
Arya couldn’t believe she was betrayed like that but then Mrs. Wade wouldn’t see it that way. They think it’s a real marriage filled with sentiments! It drove Arya crazy!
“Oh, it’s okay. It’s quite like fate. I helped a young lady on a rainy day and she became my wife few days later.” Damien texted back. He smiled at his phone again but stopped when he noticed Debby look.
Arya frowned at his text. That was exactly what Anna said he’d say. Fate. But that was only a coincidence, a stupid one that was now turning awkward.
“About the things I said…” Arya sent another text, hoping to clarify.
But Damien beat her to it. “It’s okay. Now I know, I’d make sure you get to know me, don’t worry about it. And I’m on my way home. Don’t tell mom.” He added a wink emoji.
Arya felt weirdly relaxed with the way he was handling it. Perhaps he was glad he met her that day. He should also know they somewhat met at the university but he might not have seen her.
“Sure. We’d be expecting you.” Arya typed, her finger accidentally tapped on the love emoji which she earlier sent to Winx. It sent to Damien. Arya screamed loudly when he read it, she threw her phone on the bed and slapped herself.
Damien stared at the red emoji for a while before shrugging. Maybe she usually sent love emoji to end a conversation, he didn’t want to get excited over it.
“Who are you chatting with?” Debby asked as he opened the door. Before them was the butler and his cousin, standing with big smiles. Damien smiled and enveloped his cousin in a hug.
Debby rolled her eyes as he ignored her question, she dropped her luggage and greeted the butler. She glanced at Junior who waved at her but before she reacted he walked away with Damien.
“Welcome to the Wade’s Mansion, Miss Deborah. Come let me show you where you’d be staying.” The butler gestured with a small how.
Debby’s eyes were glued to the Damien leaving, she frowned that he was ignoring her. She faced the butler. “Is that his cousin, Connor who he always compared to me?” she twitched her lips.
The butler turned to the leaving pair and smiled. “That’s Sir Connor. Yes, he’s around your age but he’s still older.”
Debby shook her head dismissively before leaving with the butler.
Damien later turned back to check on her but saw she was leaving with the butler, he smiled then looked away. “So where’s Arya?”
Junior nudged him. “Have fun with the wife I married for you. She’s in your room.” He teased, taking away Damien’s phone. Damien frowned slightly on realizing his cousin married Arya.
Junior hopped away, playing games in his phone and he only shook his head before knocking on the door on his chambers. First he heard his mother scream then a sigh. He knew Selena was in there.
He folded his arms, trying to looked annoyed so he’d caution her and put up a big brother show but Arya opened first.
Seeing him looking angry, she blinked furiously before looking down. “Sorry.” she apologized for no reason and moved away from the door.
He dropped his hands. “It’s nothing…”
“Damien, is something wrong?” his mother asked, seeing him looking mad. Selena appeared behind her mother. “He’s mad to see his wife? I bet she’s the wrong one.” she mocked.
Arya looked up at Selena. “Could you shut up?” it left her lips. Selena was stunned, so was Mrs. Wade.
Arya further dragged Damien by the hand. “We need to talk.” She pulled him into the room, leaving his mother and sister outside.
Damien watched as Arya paced around the room before she stopped. “This has been very awkward for me but since it’s started, we should act right. First, your sister isn’t an ideal sister-in-law.”
“I’m really sorry about it.”
“I know, so I’d put up with it because I know this marriage isn’t real, I’d act like I like her when I don’t, I’d just swallow it up but… she shouldn’t go over.” Arya pointed at the floor.
Damien’s countenance changed. Had Selena been so much of a bitch? He didn’t really know how much damaged she caused. And the last thing he wanted Arya to be doing was act like it wasn’t real.
“I’d make it up to you.” He blurted.
Arya cocked her head. “What?”
“I said I’d make it up to you. I’d talk to Selena and make you feel happy in this house. I promise.” He held her hands.
Arya’s face heated up. What’s he doing? He didn’t need to be extra.
