Chapter Fifteen – I hate her.
What was going on? Arya stabbed at the fish in her plate, she glanced at Damien who was on his laptop, sitting at the end of the room, then looked back at her fish.
She really wanted to talk about the marriage contract. It wasn’t very specific but she assumed they’d create more terms when he returned from China but he hadn’t spoken of it.
He made her sleep in the same bed, but far from her. Made her eat with him and kept her clothes in the same wardrobe with his. Like they were a freaking real couple!
So far, he had been nice and soft with her and she couldn’t deny he looked hot while scolding his sister for being mean to her. However, they were just acting, only it felt like he wasn’t.
“Not a fan of fish?” Damien asked, seeing she wasn’t eating. She took a bite and swallowed.
“No, I’m good.” She replied, exhaling afterwards. She wasn’t a fan of fish actually, chicken was better.
He tried to remember something Anna had said about her sister and fish. Was it she really hated fish or she really liked fish? He sighed, leaving his seat.
Arya watched him walk to her. “Let me change it.” He said, taking the plate away. She didn’t complain and let him walk away with it.
She frowned, and whispered. “This guy shouldn’t be treating me like his wife. It wasn’t what we agreed on.”
“Sorry?” he turned, hearing her whisper.
She smiled broadly. “Nothing.”
Damien smiled, seeing her smile cutely. He left with the plate again. Arya sighed. “This will be hard. Maybe I should play along, as long as… I get Seth to like me.”
With that resolution, she picked her phone and called Winx severally. It finally went through and she chirped. “Hey Winx!”
She heard a groan then sigh. “Hey.”
“Did I wake you up?” she asked, feeling sorry. “I’m sorry, I know it’s almost midnight but then, I wanted to call and ask if Seth signed up for any event.”
“Why do you care? You are married girl. Didn’t Anna say the wedding went well?” Winx joked, aiming to piss Arya off.
“Stop this! The wedding went well, I’m just asking about Seth! Did he sign up? Which one?” she frowned, gripping on her phone hard.
“I will not be encouraging you to cheat on your husband.” Winx chuckled, making Arya eye roll.
She checked if Damien was coming then added. “Don’t be like that. I have a year only to get him to like me back, you know. I will need help.”
“Just tell him already.” Winx said with a grunt. “Tell him how you feel, plainly. It’d be weird when he figures you’re married though.”
“I can’t tell him how I feel. And nothing can beat how awkward Damien and I are now. I want to change things.” She breathed heavily. “Anyway, tomorrow is the day. Wanna wear matching clothes?”
“Yes!” Winx howled. “I bought a red gown yesterday. So red and pink?”
“Red and pink it is.” Arya smiled. “And do check on Seth. Thanks.” She hung up, and turned to the door to check if Damien was coming.
She was stunned to see standing there. Her heart went to her mouth. He looked confused, holding a tray she couldn’t see it’s contents. “How long have you been there?”
“I heard about matching outfits and wondered what it’s about?” He shrugged, beginning in a tray of chicken and rice.
Arya’s eyes were glued to the tray and forgot about his question. “For me?” she looked up at him innocently.
He smiled, seeing her puppy dog eyes. “Enjoy.” He resisted the urge to pat her head, he went back to his seat but to avoid staring at her eat, he walked out with his laptop.
Halfway down the hall, his smile fell. The conversation he heard Arya have replaying in his head with underlying questions. He knew Winx, Anna said it was Arya’s only friend.
But who was the ‘old boy Seth’? Damien didn’t feel he was quite a problem and was actually bothered by the fact Arya felt they were awkward.
He felt the happiest with her and smiled at the littlest things she did but she still felt uncomfortable? What else was there to do? He walked out of the hallway.
The part where Arya spoke about not being able to tell a certain person how she felt replayed in his head as well. He paused, running his hands through his hair. Did she like someone? Or was it him?
He closed the door of his chambers and exhaled. He’d just hang around Junior’s room till he could feel relaxed with Arya again.
“Hey!” he heard a shout the moment he took a step. He froze, looking for a nearest room to run into but she held his hand.
He looked down at her and her eyes were red and bitter. “Did something happen to you, Debby?” he asked, concerned.
“Yes!” she barked, pointing at him. “You got married without telling me! And then you ignored me all through yesterday and fought with Selena.”
Damien huffed. “Is that why your eyes are red? Red with anger?”
She wiped her eyes, they were tears but she didn’t want him to know that. “So you got married?”
“Shouldn’t you be happy your boss is married? And Arya can be another older sister you have.” He said, moving away.
Debby stood at that point, glaring at him. “I hate her.”
Damien paused and turned, wearing a frown.
Seeing him frowning at her, Debby looked down but not regretful of her words. She just hated his look of displeasure on her. “Don’t frown when I’m expressing myself. I hate her.”
“Is there a reason why? Or has Selena filled your head with nonsense? You two barely know her yet decided to just hate her!” he raised his voice.
Debby shook her head, what had that bitch of a wife done to him that he raised his voice at her just like he did Selena?
“Don’t raise your voice at me when I express myself.” Her voice was broken.
He rolled his eyes. “Well Debby, I am expressing myself too. How’d you feel if someone said they hated your husband huh? Just go hang out with Selena. I’m busy.” He walked away.
Debby stood there, watching him leave. Hoping he’d turn back and apologize or look back at her. Or better, chase the little bitch, he called a wife, away.
But he didn’t turn and cornered towards Junior’s room, she was sure she had lost him. She seethed, “If you won’t throw her out, I will.”
