I sadly informed Samer that he couldn’t go home yet, but the doctor agreed that he could rest at home the next day. “You won’t be left alone here,” I said.
“Thanks, baby,” he replied.
“As long as it’s you, I’m ready to do anything to make you happy,” I said emotionally.
I feel in love, what can you do? We can’t be with our loved ones every day, so as much as possible, let’s make them feel how much we love them. When it comes to Samer, I’m ready to fight for him until the end!
“Really? Can you still be beside me even if I won’t be able to shower for a few days?” The man asked.
I looked to the side for a moment, pondering my response carefully. After a few seconds, I heard Samer chuckle even though he was in pain.
“Why are you laughing?” I asked him.
“Because you’re overthinking it. I told you, you’re all talk,” he said.
“Of course not! I was just teasing you. Sorry if what I said was a bit below the belt,” I said to him.
“Come here,” he said to me, and I immediately went closer, but I didn’t expect him to kiss my hand. “I love you so much, Jamie. If I could change time, I would want us to go back to when we first met, so I could immediately show you how much I love you.”
I smiled at him because, in truth, I appreciated what he said. “Hmm, if we could change the past, I wouldn’t want to go back to when we first met.”
“Why?” The man asked sadly.
“Because my heart is more whole now, and I can give it to you completely. I was still broken back then,” I told him.
“True, you’re right. You can’t forget the guy who hurt you and left you hanging,” Samer said.
“Hmm, Sam, Brent came by earlier. I told him about what happened this morning,” I informed him.
Samer raised an eyebrow and glared at me. “He followed you here too?,” he asked.
“He didn’t come here because of me. He said he wanted to apologize to you,” I said.
“And you believed him? I’m a man, Jamie, and I would do what he did if I wanted to win back the woman I love,” he said.
“So, you mean he lied to me?” I asked Samer.
“Is there anything new about that? He used to lie, so he’ll probably lie again just to get what he wants,” Samer added.
Wrinkles formed on my forehead as I got confused about what he wanted to imply. “So, it means lying is easy for him?” I asked Samer.
“Maybe. But let’s not talk about that person if we can,” Samer said.
“By the way, I need to leave again this afternoon,” I informed him. He shouldn’t worry because there’s a nurse available.
“Where are you going?” Samer asked.
“I think I need to check in on the dogs with the vet,” I said because I planned to focus on Samer while he’s still sick.
“Alright, it’s up to you. The dogs can’t stay at the hotel anyway,” he said.
“You feel handsome now because I’m going to accompany you there,” I said to him, and he just laughed. “But, what if Kate finds out I’m staying there?” My heart was uncertain.
“What does Kate have to do with it? Jamie, we’re not together anymore. It’s been a long time, so please don’t pay attention to her,” Samer explained.
“I’ll be back at work tomorrow,” I said.
“What? You’re going back? What about me?” There was concern in Samer’s voice.
“Come on, don’t talk as if we’re miles apart. I’ll just be downstairs, and I’ll visit you from time to time,” I promised him.
“Just take a day off,” he pleaded.
“Hmm, okay, I’ll try even for one more day. I’ll call Rhea later,” I said to Samer.
“Thank you, baby,” he said.
“I’m your baby?” I asked him.
“Of course, you’re my baby even if you’re older than me,” the man replied.
“You know, it’s better if you sleep first before I get annoyed with you. After all, you’re older than me,” I said.
“Sing for me first,” he requested.
“Sorry if I’ll disappoint you today, but I have to reserve my voice for The Voice audition,” and he just laughed at me.
Sam has known for a long time that my singing voice is quite unique. He always heard my magical voice, which is probably the reason why he fell in love with me so deeply.
“Just once, I’m used to it,” Sam insisted that he really wants to hear my voice.
Oh, it seems like I’ll be up for a challenge! “Okay, but only songs by Mariah or Celine are allowed,” I told him, but it seemed like he didn’t believe me. I raised an eyebrow. “So, have you chosen a song?”
“Will you really sing that? Aren’t you concerned about your vocal chords?” The man asked.
“Am I singing or not? You’re so full of drama!” I said, pretending to be angry, but he just laughed even more. “What is it, Samer? Are you just going to keep laughing at me? I’m close to getting annoyed, watch out.” I warned him because it’s not easy dealing with me when I get irritated.
“Sorry,” he acted cute again. If only he wasn’t handsome, I’d really tell him off!
“I love you,” I replied to his apology, and he was surprised.
“Really? What if it’s just fake news?” he said.
“It will really become fake news if you don’t stop. So, have you chosen a song?” I asked him again.
“Any song as long as it doesn’t ruin my eardrums,” Sam replied.
When Samer was discharged from the hospital and we were back to work, I was surprised that some people from Khalifa were there when Samer and I arrived. Of course, only Rhea knew that the hotel owner returned to the Claybourne for me.
“Oh, I don’t really like this, being stared at by the employees,” I told Samer while waiting for the elevator to open.
“Get used to it; your boyfriend is extremely handsome,” Samer replied.
“I don’t think it’s because of your looks that they’re looking at me. I think they see me as blooming,” I said and laughed loudly.
“You’re blooming because you’re in love with me,” he said.
“Hmm, maybe,” I said. “By the way, are the kids coming later?” I asked him about his children.
I was worried that Kate might use them to get closer to Samer. I don’t understand why she still seems interested in him, even though he’s going to marry someone else.
“Yup. I think they’re already here,” Samer said.
“How did you know?” I asked him since I didn’t notice him talking on the phone earlier.
“Kate told me last night that they might stay here, so they’re probably upstairs already,” Samer explained.
WHAT? His children are already here? Then what’s the point of me escorting him? Ugh, I felt like pulling out his hair one by one. It’s been hours since he talked to Kate, and he didn’t even mention anything to me. Are we just fooling around?
“At this rate, maybe you and Kate will end up together,” I hinted at him, and he raised an eyebrow.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Nothing,” I said because I didn’t want to insist on what I wanted. I was just thinking too far ahead, I guess.
“Is this a serious conversation?” He asked again, and I just shrugged.
“Oh, no. It’s just a joke,” I said, but it seemed like he didn’t like my last remark. “Let’s go,” I said as the elevator doors opened, not giving him a chance to retaliate. We were both silent inside the elevator.
“Jamie,” he called my name when we reached the 12th floor.
“Hmmm, what is it?” I asked him.
“I know you have insecurities in your heart right now, but just remember this. I love you so much, and whatever happened between Kate and me in the past is just that, the past. Let’s focus on the present,” he said.
“Is that a lecture?” I teased him as we stepped out of the elevator.
“Not really. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t worry about Kate. If I could take out my heart right now, I’d give it to you,” Samer said while holding my hand and looking into my eyes.
“Sorry too. It’s just that, well, you’re right. I have insecurities when it comes to your ex,” I admitted the truth.
“I understand. You know, I cried a lot of tears for her in the past. Same thing goes with Brent. I know you don’t have feelings for him anymore because I know you, but I can’t help but be jealous of the two of you. For fifteen years, he was still in your heart. I was just a small part of your life,” Samer said emotionally.
I didn’t know Samer felt the same way about Brent. “Having an ex is tough, isn’t it?” I said to him. “Why weren’t we destined to meet when we were still virgins?”
“You lost it when you were sixteen,” he reminded me of the time I fell for Brent.
“My god! Do you really have to remind me? Anyway, do you think we’ll still be together in the end?” I asked him.
“Why not? Are you hinting about the wedding?”
Ouch! I got caught! I wasn’t really hinting, but I have a secure spot in his life when we get married. As long as Kate is still around, I won’t be completely at ease.
“Kind of,” I hesitated to admit it, but he just laughed at me. He’s so bad!
“You’re a joker as usual,” Samer said.
A joker? I wasn’t joking!
“Well, just make sure you don’t let Kate stay here if she wants to. I’m already here,” I declared. I didn’t care if he’d get tired of me. It’s necessary. I can’t be complacent because the competition is right around us!
