When I arrived at the hospital, I immediately went to Samer’s room. I brought our food to better take care of him. When I reached the fifth floor, I saw the nurse outside. Shouldn’t she be inside, closely watching the patient? I furrowed my brow and raised an eyebrow as I approached her.
“Excuse me, why are you outside? Didn’t I ask you to watch over my boyfriend?” I emphasized that he is my boyfriend, not just anyone.
“The wife and children arrived,” the nurse replied, and when she looked at me, it seemed like she wanted to tell me not to act up because I’m just a mistress.
“Kate’s family? Well, FYI, she’s not his wife anymore. They’re divorced,” I said, though I shouldn’t have to explain further.
“Oh, is that so? She said they were just going to have a family talk,” the nurse added.
“Next time she comes back, especially without the kids, don’t let her in. Got it?” I scolded the nurse. I was irritated by her judgment. Just because Kate used the term “wife,” she automatically assumed I’m a mistress? Oh, wow!
“Here’s some money, go get yourself some snacks outside. I’ll call you once they leave,” I told her.
“Thanks,” the woman smiled as she accepted the money.
“You’re welcome,” I replied.
Well, I can get annoyed quickly, but being kind is in my nature. Not that I’m boasting, but it’s true. Who else will boast for me if not me? No one knows me fully anyway!
When I entered the room, Samer and Kate’s two children immediately smiled at me. Only Kate didn’t seem pleased. Even if she says the opposite, I know she didn’t like me entering. Insecure, maybe!
“I’ll have the one who beat Sam arrested!” Kate declared.
“You’re not in a position to meddle in his life anymore, Kate,” I said.
Who does she think she is? Just because she’s the mother of Ameerah and Khaleel?
“Correction, Jamie! I have all the right because I used to be his wife and the mother of his kids!” Kate insisted.
“Right, you used to be his wife, and I am his girlfriend. The chaos happened at my house, so I have the right to call the police if needed, and I also need Sam’s opinion on that matter,” I explained.
“Kids, give us a moment. Watch over your dad, and I’ll talk to your mom,” I said to the children.
“Sure, Miss Jamie,” Khaleel replied.
I pulled Kate’s hand to make sure she would leave. When we were both outside, my eyes narrowed as I looked at her from head to toe. I couldn’t find anything to criticize. Even her nails seemed perfect. However, I couldn’t let her step all over me.
“As beautiful as you are, your attitude is equally ugly. It’s like you never had an education in front of the children,” I said, and her ears seemed to tingle upon hearing my words. Well, it’s the truth!
“How dare you!” Kate said.
“How dare you too! The way you act, it’s like you’re still his wife. Maybe you forgot how you hurt Sam before!” I brought up the past because she didn’t witness how Sam lost hope to live! “Aren’t you ashamed of what you’re doing, Kate?”
“I was still young then, and I didn’t know right from wrong,” the woman tried to explain, but she couldn’t look me in the eye.
“Whether you were young or old, you should have known it’s not right to just leave your husband and child like that, right?” I added to my accusations, and she couldn’t come up with a response.
“What right do you have to tell me? Sam didn’t even throw everything in my face!” Kate’s eyes glared at me.
As if I would be scared! Well, even if her eyeballs fell on the floor due to anger, I wouldn’t help her.
“Sam didn’t throw it in your face for the sake of the children, so don’t try to intimidate me with that!” I told her.
“Maybe you think Samer will marry you, huh? Remember, you have different religions,” Kate said, acting like she knows my future.
“I’m not after marriage with him. It’s enough for me that he loved me, and I love him too. That’s enough for both of us!” I said.
“You’re just deluding yourself!” Kate shouted, and people started looking at us.
“Maybe. I don’t know,” I shrugged. “You should stop talking. Why did you even think of going back to Samer? Did the man you replaced him with fail you?”
“I don’t love the man my father chose for me,” Kate answered.
I don’t know why, but I suddenly felt pity for her situation. I also know that one of the reasons why Samer and Kate’s relationship didn’t work out was because of her father.
“You’re old enough not to let anyone control you, even if it’s your father,” I said.
“Our lives as elites are different, Jamie. I wish I grew up like you, from a poor family,” Kate said with a sad tone.
There you have it, breaking each other’s trip. I said something nice to her, but she responded with garbage. She even had the audacity to show a sad expression as if her hurtful words didn’t hurt. Their elite life? Fuck!
“You can handle it, Madam. You’re an elite, after all,” I said.
It seems like Kate got annoyed with our exchange of words, as she suddenly went back inside and took the children with her. I wanted to chat with the two kids, but she didn’t want to leave them at the hospital. I didn’t complain because she has every right to be with her children.
Samer was awake when I entered, and I smiled at him immediately. “How are you feeling?” I asked him.
“I’m getting better, so I want to leave,” the man said, even though he had difficulty speaking.
Every grimace on Samer’s face felt like a pain in my heart. “You want to leave, but you’re not okay yet,” I said to him.
“I’ll go to the hotel. I have a doctor there,” Samer explained.
Studying his face closely, I saw desperation in his eyes. Despite knowing it would be difficult to convince his doctor, I nodded, understanding his request.
“I’ll talk to your doctor,” I said.
It would be better if he stayed in the hotel, as I need to return to work. My vacation is over, and I need to be at my best for Khalifa.
I took out the porridge I bought from downstairs. Solid foods are not allowed for him yet, as it might make it difficult for him to be discharged.
“I bought some porridge downstairs, I’ll feed you,” I offered, but Samer shook his head. “Don’t you want it?” I asked him.
“I want fried chicken,” he answered, trying to sound like Khaleel.
“If it weren’t for your injury, I would have hit you for that. Fine, open your mouth!” I commanded.
Despite his difficulty, he managed to smile. “Thank you,” he said.
“Just a ‘thank you’? There’s a fee for this, you know!” I joked with him.
“It’s tough when your girlfriend seems like she’s after your money,” he teasingly remarked while swallowing a spoonful of porridge.
“What? I’m going to really get back at you! Eat faster because I have something else in store for you!” I told him seriously, though I tried hard not to burst out laughing.
He tried to smell his armpit, and he furrowed his brow. “Not really,” he said.
“Oh, please! I was just joking, my dear. Come on, give me a kiss, I missed you for a few minutes!” I said and immediately kissed his forehead. “Do you still have feelings for Kate?” I asked him, but before he could answer, I covered his mouth.
I don’t think I can handle hearing him say that he still does, which is impossible since he suddenly disappeared because of me.
“I’ll be back shortly, I’ll talk to your doctor,” I said, giving him another kiss before leaving the room.
Once outside, I asked myself why I suddenly got nervous. I used to be able to tell him what I wanted to say. Our conversations were like uncensored discussions.
Sighing, I was lost in my thoughts.
If the Tide commercial was surprising, I was more shocked at what I saw. I almost thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I blinked several times.
“Brent?” I asked his name to make sure I wasn’t being fooled by the enchanted beings.
“Jamie…” he replied, his voice somewhat dramatic as he stared at me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him again.
“Is Samer inside?” Brent returned the question.
“Probably. He’s not outside, is he?” I answered properly, as it was evident that the patient was inside. He couldn’t just be wandering around the lobby, right?
“Jamie, seriously. I asked nicely,” Brent complained.
“I did answer nicely. How should I have answered?” I asked him.
“Can I talk to him?” Brent requested to speak with Samer.
My eyebrows shot up. “Why? Aren’t you satisfied enough that you broke his bones?”
“I didn’t mean to!” Brent’s voice rose.
Oh, he’s fighting back! “You know you’re stronger than him, but you still did it! You’re angry, and you want to hurt him!” I reminded him of what happened.
“Yes! I admit that I’m stronger than Samer. I’m only weak when it comes to you!” Brent retorted, but of course, I didn’t care how many more hugot lines he would say.
“You let me go cold, that’s why I find warmth in others,” I replied.
“You can warm yourself up again in the fire, so you won’t get cold,” Brent insisted, still looking at me.
“Only food can be reheated,” I said.
“Jamie, please…” he pleaded. “I want to ask for forgiveness from your frigid boyfriend,” he added.
“Be careful with your words, Brent. You might have forgotten who he is in my life,” I reminded him that Samer holds more weight in my life.
“I won’t give up, Jamie. I’ll do everything to make you love me again,” he declared.
“Oh, really? Why don’t you fix your relationship with Michelle? Your child deserves better, you know,” I suggested. But honestly, I felt a slight pang of pity for him.
“Gabrielle is not my biological daughter, but I loved her as my own,” Brent said.
“Hmmm, it looks like Madam Karma is busy with you, huh? You left me and our child to become a father to a child who isn’t even yours. You’ve been head-butted, and yet you’re still there for her. Maybe you two are destined for each other. Try working out your relationship, and maybe it will work,” I suggested. But truthfully, I pitied him just a little.
“Oh, so you feel sorry for me?” He teased me.
“You’re acting like a victim,” I said. “If you really want to talk to Samer, come back at another time because I don’t want him to be stressed right now.”
“Do I really have no place in your heart, Jamie?” he asked again.
“Oh, come on, are we going through this again?”
