CHAPTER 43

The next day, I entered my office with a bad mood. How could I not be annoyed when Samer allowed Kate to sleep in the suite room with the kids? On their very first night, Kate was already lurking around! What if she comes back again later?
“Good morning, Miss Jamie,” Rhea stood up to greet me, but I couldn’t muster a smile for her.
“Good morning,” I replied, but my tone must have been offensive because she sat back down and avoided eye contact. “I’m sorry, I was just really annoyed earlier,” I explained.
“It’s okay,” Rhea replied. “By the way, Miss, I heard that Mr. Khalifa and the mother of his children have gotten back together.” Rhea shared the gossip with me.
I understood why she told me about Kate. I was previously linked to Samer, but we managed to address that issue. Everyone knows I’m just a close friend to him. It didn’t bother me before, but now, I felt like cursing.
“Where did you hear that?” I asked Rhea.
“From downstairs. They were talking about their relationship comeback yesterday,” Rhea added.
“So, they did have a comeback? Next time someone tries to gossip with you, tell them that Mr. Khalifa has a new girlfriend and there’s no comeback happening,” I didn’t intend to say that, but I was provoked. I couldn’t let the fake news about Kate and Samer’s comeback spread throughout Khalifa.
“Oh, there is?” Rhea asked.
“Yup,” I replied. “Have you had breakfast? If not, let’s go to the restaurant together,” I suggested to Rhea.
Even though I went with Samer earlier, I couldn’t eat properly. I don’t think anyone in my position could eat comfortably when their ex’s partner is around.
“I already ate at home, but I’ll accompany you,” Rhea said.
“Okay, let’s go. By the way, any updates about the construction in Stonewick?” I asked Rhea because I’ve been absent from work for a few days.
During those times, I didn’t follow up on anything. Besides, it’s not my job to handle the construction matters.
“It’s set for a soft opening. I also asked the LGU there for the job fair that will happen next week,” Rhea informed me.
“Next week? Why not tomorrow or the day after? Call them later and reschedule it,” I ordered Rhea. It’s a waste to have the hotel sitting idle for a few days. I want to kick off the operation as soon as possible.
“Oh, okay,” Rhea agreed.
“Thank you,” I said as we picked a nice spot for breakfast. It’s still early, and I want to enjoy my meal, especially since I’ll be busy later. She signaled a waiter for the menu, and when he approached, they quickly chose their food.
“I’ll go American for breakfast,” Rhea said to the waiter.
“Really? Don’t you want continental?” I teased her because I knew why she said the American word. The waiter serving us is American, and the flirtatious Rhea couldn’t help herself, even in the morning. “It’s continental for me,” I said to the waiter.
“Sure. And your fruit juice? Is it orange, pineapple, mango, or watermelon?” The waiter asked.
“Orange will be fine,” Rhea answered.
“How about the eggs? Poached, scrambled, boiled, or omelet?” The waiter asked again.
Rhea decided to check the menu thoroughly and went for her choices for hot beverages. “You’re hotter than coffee, can I order you instead?” she joked, and he smiled before leaving. “He’s cute,” Rhea said after the waiter left.
“That’s why you didn’t refuse to accompany me,” I said to her.
“Of course,” Rhea replied nonchalantly.
“You really are something,” I said. “Wait, he’s coming back already.”
“Oh, yeah,” Rhea said, gaping as the waiter placed her order for American breakfast. “Gosh, is all this for me?”
“That’s American breakfast,” I said to her, and the waiter smiled. Khalifa’s breakfast servings are indeed worth the price; customers are guaranteed to be full. “Enjoy,” I told Rhea before I started eating. There were also plenty of dishes in front of me, even though the menu said they were for one person, the serving was good for sharing.
“Why am I the only one with fruits?” Rhea asked.
“But it’s okay, we both have a bread basket.” But of course, Rhea’s pastry choices are more upscale than mine. “You’ll manage!” I said.
After we finished eating, Rhea could hardly walk properly back to the office. For a moment, I forgot my annoyance with Samer. Food can be the remedy, it seems.
“In fifteen minutes, let’s start working,” I told Rhea, who still seemed to be catching her breath. “Why did you have to finish everything? You could have had it wrapped to go!”
I just shook my head while looking at my assistant, who seemed as big as her desk. Perhaps if she loses weight, her beauty will shine even more. Rhea is pretty; she’s just a bit overweight.
I had coffee in the restaurant, but I still felt lacking in attention. Oh well, so much for it. After opening my computer, I went to the pantry to make some coffee.
“Good morning, Miss.”
I just smiled at the employees who greeted me in the pantry. “You probably haven’t had breakfast yet, right? Eat before you start working,” I reminded them all.
“We’re done, Miss,” they replied in unison, and I nodded.
“That’s good,” I said and excused myself from them.
I know that there are many competitors in the city, but it has never happened that we’ve hired someone who resigned to move to another hotel. Khalifa offers the best benefits, and every employee is valued. Actually, there’s another good news that I haven’t announced to everyone yet, but I’ll do it later. I’ll prioritize the job fair in Stonewick for an economy hotel built by Samer to boost my name.
If I fell in Stonewick before, I should be able to rise there as well. He’s so sweet, right? But he’s also sweet to Kate! I was about to call him to check on him when the phone on my desk rang suddenly.
“HR, good morning.”
“I love you, baby,” said the man on the other line, and I just smiled. No greetings at all!
