“You’re joking, right? This is a joke; tell me you’re joking.” He said this as he kicked against the table in anger.
“What reason do I have to lie to you? This is what I do for a living, Daniel. I find out these kinds of secrets. Tell me, why would I lie to you?” He asked him as he poured a glass of water for Daniel. “That woman doesn’t exist. Tell me, is she your colleague or employee? I could get to the bottom of things myself.” The man said that, and at that moment, Daniel recalled something.
.
FLASHBACK…
“We’re taking a flight back home, Kathryn. We’re in a hurry.” He told her, and she stared at him.
“Why do we have to? We came here by train, didn’t we? It’s only nice that we go back by train.” She told him, and he chuckled.
“Let me guess, you’re thinking about the costs of planes again, aren’t you? Listen to me, I have the money; I can accommodate all my staff on a plane, so don’t worry, it’s not going to be expensive.” He told her, and she shook her head.
“It’s not that, Daniel. Actually, I don’t have any travel documents.” She told him, and he stared at her.
“How is that possible? Every living human being has one; it is created for them at birth, so how don’t you have one?” He asked her, and she smiled at him.
“Not everything you see is everything.” She said, and he stared at her, confused.
“What do you mean?” He asked her, and she was really starting to confuse him.
“Who knows, my name might not even be Kathryn.” She told him, and he rolled his eyes.
“Maybe you just have a phobia for planes.” He told her, and she chuckled.
“Let’s go with that.” She said.
.
On recalling this, he fell to the chair. That day, he had taken it as a joke, but what if she was actually telling the truth? What if she wasn’t really Kathryn?
He stared at the man. “Thank you, James. I’d call you when I need your help again.” He told him, and the man stared at him.
“Daniel? Are you crying? Tell me, who is this woman? She seems to be breaking your heart.” He asked, and Daniel smiled as he wiped his tears slowly.
“Don’t worry, James. You’ve been of help to me; I’ll call you when I need something else.” He said that, and James smiled.
“I’m always here for you, bro.” With that said, he comforted Daniel a little bit more before leaving, and after he left, Daniel buried his face in his hands.
How was this possible? How did she fool him so easily? He shook his head. He didn’t want to believe it, but James would never lie to him; they were such good friends.
He got off the chair as he walked to her room. Maybe she had something in her room that would help him find out more about her, because he would never believe in anyone again if he found out that the woman who made him a good person was actually bad.
He walked into her room as he shut the door behind him. He had made such a noise when walking in, yet she didn’t even flinch. She was really lost in thought; this was getting to her badly.
“Kathryn!” He called out to her, but then she didn’t even move, and he rolled his eyes.
He started to look through her room, rummaging through her stuff, but he didn’t find anything strange; there was nothing, not even her identity cards. After minutes of searching for evidence against her, he got frustrated and, as such, left her room.
“You seem to be a smart player, Kathryn, but trust me, I’ll get to the bottom of everything. I’m going to find out who you are and what you’re actually doing here. I’ll do anything to find out the truth; not even my love for you will stop me.” He said that, and with that, he took out his phone.
“Daniel? It’s not been up to an hour since I left your house, and you’re already calling. Wow, it must be my lucky day. Tell me, what’s wrong?” James asked over the phone, and he sighed.
“Remember when you said if I needed your help, I should call?” He asked as he turned to the room to be sure Kathryn wasn’t listening.
“Yes, I said so. Tell me, what do you need?” James asked him, and he swallowed.
.
“This is Eva, Eva Harrington. She is a tested and trusted agent in my organization. She is going to help you get to the root of whatever it is you want to know. Trust me.” James told Daniel as he introduced him to the seductive-looking lady in front of him.
He stared at James and asked, “Does she have to be dressed like that?” He asked, and James chuckled.
“We’ll, Daniel. She is not only an agent for finding out things like these; she is also a typical seductress. You know, she sometimes seduces to find things out.” James said, and Daniel nodded.
Eva got off the chair she had been in as she moved closer to Daniel. “He forgot to mention that I’m very sneaky.” She whispered seductively into his ears, and just as she made to withdraw her hands, he held on to them.
“That’s my wallet; you don’t have any right to touch it.” He told her, and she stared at him.
“Honestly, I’m surprised. No one has ever caught me trying to steal from them before. Honestly, I’m very impressed.” She told him, and he nodded.
“Don’t be too impressed; I might not be impressed with your work.” He told her, and she smirked.
“Sir, believe me. This is what I do best.” She told him, and he nodded as he handed her a picture of Kathryn.
“There she is. I want you to tell me everything there is to know about her.” He told her, and she nodded.
“My pleasure.” She told him, and he walked out of the room after waving James goodbye.
As he left, she watched him, licking her lips. He had a different aura; he was different from all the other men she had met in all her years of hard work.
“You seem like the type of man I’ve been searching for all my life, Mr Lopez.” She whispered to herself.
