“There is something, Kathryn. Show it to me; I want to see it.” He told her as he tried to take her hand out again, but then she refused.
“If you’re not going to help me, Daniel, trust me, I can help myself.” She told him, and he stared at her.
It seemed like as the days passed, he didn’t even know her anymore. With all the secrets she was keeping, he was beginning to doubt if he was actually even safe in his own house.
She took a deep breath as she stared at him. “Daniel, I’m sorry, but it really hurts when I say something and you don’t believe me.” She told him.
“I’m not doubting you; you’re just making yourself look suspicious. I just want to see what it is; I swear I have seen it before.” He told her as he started struggling with her to see her hand, but then she wouldn’t let him see it so easily, and in the process of struggling with him, she hit her hand against the sink, and she cried out in pain.
“Ah!” She cried as she held on to her hand.
She hadn’t recovered from the injury she sustained the other day, and as such, this had to hurt a lot. She stared at him as she took a towel and wrapped it around herself before limping out of the tub.
“Where are you going?” He asked her, and she stared at him.
“I don’t need your help anymore; thank you. I’ll just use the guest bathroom.” She told him, and with that, she left the bathroom.
He stared at her as he ran his fingers through his hair. He wanted to let every single thing she did go; he wanted to trust her with all of his heart, but like this? He wasn’t sure he could. He had to do something about it; he needed to get to the bottom of things.
Had it just been something else, he probably would have let it go, but with that scar, he just couldn’t. He had seen it somewhere before, and he had to find out where.
He sighed as he walked out of the bathroom, going to sleep in his room because he knew she definitely wouldn’t talk to him after that. He was in his room at night, trying to get some rest, but then he just couldn’t seem to get any sleep.
All he could see was that mark, the one he had seen on her hand while she was having her bath, and now he couldn’t get his mind off it.
He got off his bed as he took his phone with him, sneaking towards her room like a thief. He slowly opened the door to her room, and there he found her asleep. He smiled as he stared at her; she really looked cute while she slept, but at that moment, he had something important to do, and that was to find out about the mark on her hand.
He knew she was a hit girl, but then he had many of them; they never had those marks on her hands, so why did she? He slowly took her hand, and even though at one point she almost woke up, she didn’t.
The drugs that had been given to her for her pneumonia and to subside the injection were making her very drowsy. He managed to take a picture of her wounds and, afterwards, went to sleep.
The first thing he did when he woke up was take a look at the picture, and at that moment, he realized he couldn’t do it on his own. He needed some external help. She had been hiding a lot of things from him lately; he couldn’t take it. He was scared that she was probably doing something that would probably land her in danger.
He took out his phone as he called a certain person. “Oh Daniel, you called today? I didn’t think you would still recall that someone like me existed.” The person at the other end of the call teased, and Daniel rolled his eyes.
“I need a background check on someone. I need to know every damn detail about the person. And I need it soon.” He said as he turned to the door, “Just to be sure she wasn’t there.
“Tell me, Daniel. I’d be willing to do it. Who do you want a check on?” The man asked, and Daniel clenched his fists before speaking.
“Kathryn Wilson. I want everything there is to know about her.” He said that, and with that, he hung up.
He stared at a picture of her by the bedside as he caressed it slowly. “Trust me, Kathryn. It’s not my wish to do this or doubt you, but with the way you’re acting, I have no choice but to doubt you. I’d have to investigate you; I don’t want any trouble, not after what I had to go through in my early days.” He said that, and with that, he placed the picture beside him.
For the rest of the day, all he did was pace the house, waiting for news to be brought to him. At intervals, he would check on Kathryn, who, as usual, was lost in thought.
All she did was stare into the sky, and he had started to wonder if she was actually mentally stable. Most times, when she snuck out, she would return with injuries, and as such, he had forbidden her from leaving the house.
“Sir, there’s someone at the door.” Martha informed him, and he ordered that the person be brought in immediately.
He had been waiting for a long time; he couldn’t wait anymore. “You’re here. I’ve been waiting.” Daniel spoke to the man who walked in. “Tell me, what did you find out?” He asked the man, who took a file and passed it to Daniel.
“That’s everything you need to know about her.” He said that, and Daniel took a sigh. He had to do this, at least for her sake.
He opened the file, and the moment he did that, he stared at the man. “There’s nothing here. Is this some sort of joke?” He asked.
“Exactly, there’s nothing there because there’s no one going by the name you gave me. Remember when I asked for her middle name? Well, I think you gave me the wrong name because Kathryn Wilson doesn’t exist. No one exists by that name!” He said that, and at that moment, the file fell out of Daniel’s hands.
