He shook his head. He wasn’t sure he had heard the doctor well. “Poisoning?”
“Yes, poisoning. It’s not a major poisoning case, though, and it seems it’s meant to make her feel weak and make her recovery cells very weak. I did ask about her injuries, right? Well, I did so because they seemed to be very brutal and severe. She was injected, sir, and we found traces of it in her blood. Those injections are going to make her so weak, and hence, she will be unable to recover from the effects of her injuries.” The doctor told him, and he stared at Kathryn.
Who could it be that was doing all of this to her? Who was it that hated her so much that even after hurting and beating her up this badly, he still didn’t want her to recover? It had to be a monster; only one would be so evil that he wouldn’t want her to recover from it.
He wiped the tears that he didn’t know had started to stream down his cheeks as he stared at her. “And the pneumonia? What do I do about that? It’s not severe, right?” He asked the doctor as he moved closer to her.
“Her pneumonia isn’t that bad; it’s good it was detected this early. Tell me, does she like to play in the rain or have cold stuff?” The doctor asked him, and he nodded.
“Yes, she does. Last night, she insisted on staying in the rain.” He told the doctor, who nodded.
“That’s the only reason why. Don’t worry, she’ll be fine. Just make sure to keep her warm at all times, and also make sure she is away from anything cold, no matter what.” The doctor told him, and he smiled as he caressed her hand.
“Of course, doctor. That’s not a problem.” He said.
“Well, I’ll be having some drugs delivered to you. On them, you’ll see the dosage, which should weaken the effects of the injection.” The doctor told him.
“Thank you, doctor. I’ll hang up now.” He told the doctor and hung up.
He sighed as he stared at an unconscious Kathryn in the bed as he rubbed her hands. “There is a lot I still have to know about you, Kathryn. But as the woman I love, I don’t want to doubt you. Can you please just come clean?” He spoke, more like a whisper, as he stared at her.
He sighed again as he wiped his tears. Why was he crying? Was it how much he loved her? He chuckled as he stared at her, tucking her hair behind her ear as he did so. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. I promise.” He told her.
After some time of staying by an unconscious Kathryn, he also fell asleep on her body. It didn’t take much time after he slept for her to open her eyes, and she was feeling so weak.
She wanted to turn, but then felt someone on her, and on staring, it was Daniel. She smiled slightly as she stared at him; her day had just gotten better from only seeing his face first. She weakly turned to the wall clock, and her eyes widened in shock as she stared at it.
It was already evening. She groaned slightly in pain as she tried to get out of bed without waking him, but then she did a terrible job, as at her first try, he opened his eyes.
“Kathryn. You’re awake. Tell me, how are you doing?” He asked her as he cupped her face, and she smiled.
“I’m fine.” She told him, and he sighed as he tucked her in.
“You’re not getting out of bed today, tomorrow, or the day after. You’ve got pneumonia, and the doctor has asked you to rest. Understood?” He asked her, and she chuckled as she stared at him.
He was treating her like a child, with that feeling of getting scolded only because you were being looked out for. She smiled; she had never experienced it before, and that was because she had been living in a mess her whole life.
“Daniel, I’m fine. Trust me, I am doing well.” She told him as she tried to get up, but then he stared at her in a way that made her behave herself, and she smiled.
“You won’t say anything to me; I’ve had enough of that already. You can’t even take care of yourself, and don’t worry, I won’t let you. I’ll be the one to take care of you.” He told her, and she frowned slightly, even though she was very happy.
“Daniel…” she tried to call out to him, but then he placed his hands on her mouth, covering it as he shook his head.
“Don’t even bother speaking; I won’t let you do anything.” He told her, and she sighed.
“But…”
“Last night, you promised to come in, but did you? And now you’ve got sick. I won’t let that happen again.” He told her as he handed her a glass of warm milk. “Here you go, have this. It’ll make you feel better.” He told her, and she smiled as she stared at him.
“Thank you.” He nodded as he patted her hair.
“It’s my duty to take care of you now; I can’t trust anyone with that. I can’t even trust you because you don’t care about yourself,” he told her, and even though it warmed her heart and made her feel happy that there was someone who cared that much about her, she felt guilty.
He also wasn’t doing well because of her, yet he had to take care of her. She took a deep inhale, and she felt even worse.
For the rest of the day, he didn’t leave her side. He kept on taking care of her and making sure she was fine, and she had never been happier about anything. She smiled as she stared at him, and when it was bedtime, he went to his room, and she slept off.
In the middle of the night, Daniel recalled that he had to give her the drugs, and when he went to her room, he decided to be gentle as he didn’t want to wake her.
He slowly opened the door, and on opening the door and putting the lights on, he realized she wasn’t in her room.
He rushed to the bathroom and looked around the house so he wouldn’t jump to conclusions, but then again, she was nowhere to be found.
