She chuckled as she moved closer to him, trying to place her hand on him again, but this time he held on to her hand. She took a deep breath as she stared at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. “You don’t want me?” She asked him, and he shook his head as he gave a pained smile.
If only she knew-if only she knew that he didn’t just want her but needed her-she would never ask this question. His body wanted him to do what she was doing. It wanted him to play along, but then his heart genuinely loved her, and he couldn’t bring himself to do this to her, not when she had this sadness in her eyes.
They were both looking into each other’s eyes, and they were lost in it. She smiled at him, and even though he was hurting her hand as he held it that way, even though he wasn’t doing it intentionally, he still was, but then, staring at him and looking into his eyes, she could feel the pain dissipating.
She smiled as she stared at him. “Even I don’t know why I am so sad, but then you, without even so much effort, can see all the pain in my eyes. You can feel how hurt I am, and Daniel, trust me, I swear to God, whatever I do to you is also subconscious. It’s as subconscious as what you’re doing right now.” She told him, tears streaming down her cheeks, and he stared at her in a way that showed he was confused, and she chuckled.
She looked at her hands and smiled slightly. “You’re hurting me with your hand.” She told him, and he immediately let go of her hand.
“I’m so sorry; I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He told her, and she nodded as she stared at him.
He looked up; it was still raining so badly, and he knew she would have a fever if she continued to stand under the rain. “Come with me; it’s taking so badly, you’ll get a fever.” He told her, and she shook her head.
“Tell me, are you tired? Are you feeling cold?” She asked him, and he nodded.
“Yes, I’m very tired, and my wounds still need to heal well.
Come with me; I can’t leave you here, not with the condition you’re in at least.” He told her, and she shook her head as she caressed his cheeks slightly, brushing her thumb across them as she planted a little peck on his cheek.
“Thank you for caring so much about me, but I still want to be here; the rain helps me relax.” She told him, and he stared at her, confused.
Was she that much of a weirdo that she wanted to stay alone in the garden, all by herself, especially while it rained?
“Are you sure about this? It’s not good for you.” He told her, and she nodded.
“I’m sure,” she told him.
“Do come in soon; I won’t be able to sleep well if you stay here all night.” He told her, and she chuckled as she stared at him.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come in soon enough.” She told him with a smile, and he nodded as he planted a kiss on her forehead.
“Goodnight, Kathryn.” He told her with a smile, and she nodded at him.
“Goodnight, Daniel.” She told him, and after much hesitation, he walked back into the house.
The moment she was sure he had walked into the house, she fell to the ground, and under the rain, she burst into tears. All the tears she had been holding in since he found her crying on the terrace suddenly let themselves out as she cried hard.
She buried her face in her hands as she started to slap herself hard across the face, and even though it was worse seeing as she had been tortured earlier, she didn’t mind as she continued to hit herself like she was being forced to do so.
“You’re such a jerk, Kathryn; you’re a fool, an idiot, a complete one.” She yelled at herself as she continued to hit herself, and after hitting herself for a very long time, she stopped.
Her face had become so sore, and she could not keep up with it. She dragged herself to the bench and rested her head on it, more tears streaming down her cheeks. She gasped for air as she looked up at the sky, letting the rain pour into her eyes. “Tell me, lord, am I such a jerk? Am I so bad that I still go on with this despite knowing the truth?” She asked herself as she cried even more.
She wiped her tears as she looked into the house. “He has been nothing but good to me, and even though we have fights some times, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about me. I…” She could no longer speak as her words got choked on by her tears, and she gasped as she wiped her tears.
She winced in slight pain as she placed her hand to her waist, and when she did that, on taking it out, she saw the rain wash her blood away, and more tears streamed down her cheeks.
This was just the tip of the iceberg; worse would happen to her if she didn’t push through with the main reason she had come here in the first place.
She didn’t want to hurt him; it wasn’t what she wanted to do at all. He was her best friend; there was nothing she wanted more than seeing him happy; but then, sadly, every time she remembered his words, those words that had been told to her, she had a change of heart-not a change per se, but it just got her to be even more scared.
“Tell me, Kathryn, do you or do you not know what’ll happen to you if you choose not to push through?” His voice started to resound in her head, and she looked around as fear surged through her entire body.
“If you choose to not push through with this, Kathryn, we’re going to finish the mission for you, and along with the mission, do you know what else we’re going to complete? You. We’re going to complete you, just like we did Josh. You don’t want to know how that’ll end, now do you?”
Those words, like a certain injection, caused her to lose her mind as she stepped back in fear.
