His eyes widened in shock as she continued to kiss him slowly. He couldn’t understand one thing: why was she doing this? What had come over her now? Why was she suddenly acting this way?
“Kathryn!” He mumbled in between kisses as the rain continued to pour on them. “Let’s go in; you’ll catch a cold and then a fever. I don’t want that to happen.” He told her, but then she didn’t budge.
She continued to kiss him, and even though the kiss under the rain felt so romantic for him, it was very confusing. She had been acting very strangely all day.
First, she didn’t come to the hospital to see him, and then he found out she had gone to jail. He was fine with that, as he saw that she couldn’t have been able to visit him if she was in jail, but then she was out now, and he didn’t even know she was in jail, so one thing remained a mystery to him.
Who could have gotten her bailed out?
He didn’t want it to feel like it was a bad thing for her to have gotten out of jail, because in fact, that person, the one who had gotten her out of jail, had done him a good favor and had saved him a lot of stress because had he gotten back and still didn’t find her at the house, he would have assumed immediately that she was with her lover.
Seeing her at home didn’t still quench the fire of doubts her recent behavior was causing with him, because he still had a lot of questions that needed to be answered because, first of all, she had been crying when he got back.
She was a strong woman, a type that he admired a lot, so he couldn’t quite place his hands on why she had been crying. As if her crying in the dark all by herself wasn’t enough, she had these injuries, and it was obvious that she had been physically assaulted, but one thing he didn’t understand was why she was covering up for the one who had done this to her.
He knew that back when Louis was doing those horrible things to her, she had been quiet. She didn’t say a word to him because she didn’t want the brother to fight, but then Louis never hurt her this badly; he never hurt her to the point where she couldn’t even walk, so what could have happened this time? Why was she covering up for whoever was doing this to her? Because apparently, this person was a monster-a coward at that.
With her lips still on his, something came to mind. Louis did. Louis was dead, sure, but then some of the things that had happened when he was alive started to come to mind.
She knew Louis had kidnapped her; he had done a lot of awful things in the past, yet when he died, she still felt bad. She still had a fight with him because she felt it wasn’t right to fight or kill family.
That gave him major doubt. Who was she? And how did a hit girl, someone who killed a lot of people, someone who separated people from their families because of money, suddenly start to care?
At the moment of that sudden realization, he pushed her away, and she stared at him, shocked, as she fell to the floor, seeing as her wounds still hurt badly.
She stared at him, and he ran his fingers through his hair. He didn’t mean to do that; he didn’t want to push her like that. He stretched his hand as he helped pull her back up. “I’m so sorry, Kathryn. I didn’t mean to do that.” He told her as he ran his fingers through his hair.
She smiled. “It’s fine, I know you would never hurt me on purpose, except you’ve got a reason for it, but tell me, do you think the same about me? Do you als; think I would never hurt you unless there was a reason to do so?” She asked him, looking straight into his eyes, and at that moment, he really didn’t know how to feel.
He turned away from her as he slid his now-wet hair back. “Kathryn, you’re acting very strangely today; you’re also asking very strange questions, and honestly, I don’t know what has come over you.” He told her, and she chuckled.
“Like I thought.” She muttered under her breath.
He stared at her and asked, “Did you say something?” He asked her, and she shook her head.
He stared at her, and before he knew it, she limped towards him, taking his jacket off slowly as she started to caress his chest. “Before I met you, there were a lot of things I heard about you, things that would make someone want to kill you immediately, but now that I’ve met you and even come to know you, Daniel, I know those aren’t true because…” As she leaned in, he stepped back immediately.
As much as he wanted to enjoy the moment, having the woman he loved with all his heart in his hands, he just couldn’t. He could see something in her eyes; he could see that she didn’t want to do this, but for some odd reason, she did.
He patted her hair softly as he looked into her eyes. “Kathryn, I’ve got many questions for you tonight, but out of all of them, can you please just answer one? It would give me peace of mind to know that you answered that question.” He told her, and she stared at him.
“Tell me, Daniel. Which question do you want me to answer?” She asked him as she started to caress his chest, and he held on to her hand.
“You’re doing this, but tell me, why do I see sadness in your eyes?” He asked her, and she swallowed as she stepped back.
