She stared at him. Why was he taking so long to answer her? When it had taken too long, she wiped her tears as she chuckled slightly.
“I know, it’s a really weird request; I won’t bother to ask you again. Thank you very much.” She told him, but he still didn’t answer her.
All that was on his mind at that moment was how she sustained those injuries and why it was only after she sustained the injuries that she was asking that question. It all seemed to be connected, but he didn’t know how.
He took a deep inhale as he stared at her, and at that moment, he got up, and the moment he got up, the pain from his arm came back with full force, and he couldn’t help but let out a little wince. “Ah!”
The moment she heard him wince, she got up immediately, but as she got on her feet, she cried in pain as she fell back to the ground. She had been badly hurt; they had shown her no mercy, and at that moment, he bent to her level as he cupped her face.
“Tell me, Kathryn. Do you trust me?” He asked her, and she smiled as she stared at him.
“At first, I didn’t trust you, but now I see no reason why I shouldn’t trust you.” She told him, and he chuckled.
“It’s nice of you to say that, but you know, that doesn’t answer my question. Do you trust me?” He asked her, and she smiled as she wiped her tears slowly.
“Yes, Daniel. I do.” She told him, tears streaming down her cheeks, and he sighed as he stared at her.
“Then tell me, who did this to you? I can’t stand seeing you this way, Kathryn. I swear, it hurts me badly. Just tell me, who did this to you? Look at you; you look like someone who was attacked in prison.” He told her, and she chuckled.
“But you know I was in prison today, right?” She asked him, trying to divert his attention, but then it drew his attention to something else.
“Tell me, who got you bailed from prison?” He asked her, and she gulped as she stared at him.
“That’s not relevant. The important thing is that I’m out of jail now, isn’t it?” She asked him, and he nodded.
He knew she was hiding something; she was hiding a lot of things, but for some reason, he really didn’t want to doubt her. He wanted to trust her, but how could he? These wounds were making him more worried, but then she didn’t want to say anything about them.
“You must be hurting really badly.” He told her, and she shook her head.
She smiled as she stared at the sun. “No, I’m fine; I’m used to this anyway.” She said that, and the moment she blurted those words out, she covered her mouth in shock.
She gulped as she stared at him, chuckling nervously. She hoped he didn’t really take that to heart, as that wouldn’t be good for her.
“You’re used to this? How is that?” He asked her, and she shook her head.
“Hit girl training. That’s not something you want to know about.” She told him, and even though it was a lie, he nodded.
“I do want to know. I want to know everything about you, Kathryn.” He told her, and she stared at him.
“Sadly, even now, most things that are known about me are quite complicated, but trust me, when the time is right, you’ll find out what you need to know, and I hope that when you do, you’ll find it in your heart to forgive me.” She told him, and he shook his head.
“You’re acting really weird, Kathryn. I’ll just go get the first aid kit and tend to your wounds.” He told her, and with that, he left.
She took a deep breath. “Oh, Daniel, I wish you could understand what it is I’m trying to say.” She wiped her tears off slowly. “I wish everything in my life would just be normal, but maybe because of my past mistakes, that’s too much to ask.” She said this as she wiped her tears.
Daniel grabbed the first aid kit and turned, and the moment he walked back to the terrace where she had been, he couldn’t find her, and he looked around.
It was getting cold; it wasn’t good for her, and with the condition she was in, it could get worse. He was looking around the house when, suddenly, he spotted something in the garden. It was Kathryn.
He rushed to the garden where she was seated and asked, “Why did you come here? I know, I took so long to get here, but in your condition, you shouldn’t be moving so frequently; it’ll hurt you even more.” He told her as he started to tend to her wounds, and while she winced in pain, she smiled at intervals.
“The world is really a complicated place, Daniel. One moment, you’re happy, and the next moment, bad news comes around the corner and ruins all the joy that you have.” She said this as she wiped her tears.
He stared at her; he didn’t even want to bother asking her what was wrong because, in the end, she would just wave it aside. He sighed as he continued to tend to her wounds, and soon it started to drizzle.
He looked up; it had become very cold, and it looked like it would be a very big downpour. “Kathryn, it’s about to start raining. Come with me; we have to go in.” He told her, and she chuckled.
“Isn’t the weather beautiful? I feel like I could stay here for the rest of my life.” She spoke with a smile as she tried to get up, but it was difficult for her.
Even though it was difficult to get up, it didn’t stop her. She managed to get up, and he held on to her hand.
“Come, Kathryn. Stop being a child. We have to go inside the house.” He told her, and she winced in pain.
“Ouch!” She had just been held in one of the places where she had been hurt.
He took his hands off immediately.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry; I didn’t mean to. I…” Before he could finish speaking, she grabbed him as she slammed her lips right against his, and the moment she did that, it started to rain heavily.
