He patted her hair slowly as he stared at her. He could feel her tears soaking his shirt, but he didn’t mind. All that mattered was that she felt better, and he consoled her until she stopped crying.
“It’s fine, Kathryn. Don’t cry.” He told her as he continued to rub her hair, but it didn’t stop her from continuing to cry, and at that moment, he didn’t know what to feel anymore.
Why was she crying? What happened to her? Did anyone say anything to her?
“Daniel, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me. I swear I didn’t mean to do that to you.” She cried, and at that moment, his heart clenched.
Could this be it? Could this feeling of guilt be the reason she didn’t want to come to the hospital? Was it because she felt guilty after what she had done that she didn’t want to come see him?
He took a deep inhale. He had wanted to believe that she was with her lover, but with this, he didn’t know what to think anymore. She was crying, and from what he had come to know about her, she wouldn’t cry so easily unless it actually got to her.
“I’m so sorry, Daniel. I swear, I didn’t mean to do any of this. Please forgive me; I beg of you.” She cried as she burst into even more tears, and he took in a deep inhale as he pulled out of the hug.
He sighed as he stared at her, tucking her hair behind her ear, and the moment he did that, his heart clenched upon seeing her face.
He stared at her, shocked. “Kathryn, what happened to you? What is this? What on earth happened to you?” He asked her as he cupped her face in his hands.
She looked terrible; her face was swollen, and it looked like she had been beaten so hard. Her eyes were also swollen because she had been crying for a very long time, but her face, with how red it was and how much blood was around it, made him know something must have happened.
“Tell me, Kathryn. What happened to you?” He asked her, and she turned away from him immediately.
What would she tell him? She never told anyone about the godfather, yet this happened to her. She had only delayed the mission by a bit, yet all this had happened to her, so what would happen now? What would happen if she told him how she actually sustained these marks?
He took her hand in his, trying to assure her when he saw that she was actually injured in almost every part of her body, and now he was actually beginning to feel guilty.
It seemed that he had only sustained an injury to the head, while she had sustained injuries in every part of her body. He could no longer think straight, so he helped her up, but the moment she stood, she fell to the ground as she screamed in pain.
He stared at her, and despite her trying to cover her wounds, he opened it, and there he found the scars on her leg, and he couldn’t think straight anymore.
“Tell me, who did this to you? I won’t spare them. Tell me who did this!” He snarled angrily, and she only shook her head as she stared at him.
She wiped her tears as she struggled to get up, and after getting up, she took his hands in hers. She sighed as she stared at him. “Ask me anything but that, Daniel. I can answer any question you ask me, but regarding how I got these injuries, I’m sorry, but I can’t answer them. Please understand that.” She told him, and he nodded as he stared at her.
“Tell me, Kathryn. Are you really seeing a man? Do you really have a lover? Is he the only reason you didn’t come to see me at the hospital?” He asked her, and she wiped her tears.
“I wish I did, but sadly, I don’t. Daniel, trust me. I don’t have a lover. It’s sad that you thinking I have a lover is the only reason you landed in the hospital. But trust me, I don’t.” She told him, and he stared into her eyes, and only one look into her swollen eyes told him she was telling the truth.
He held on to her hand. “I looked for you when I regained consciousness, Kathryn. Tell me, where were you? If you don’t have a lover, then tell me, why didn’t you come to see me?” He asked her, and she tucked her hair behind her ear.
“I was in prison. Apparently, Martha had seen us when we had the fight, so I was the prime suspect. I was taken to jail.” She told him, and his eyes immediately widened in shock.
“Don’t tell me they did this to you!” He yelled as he turned. “Those bastards. I’ll kill them!” He yelled, and just as he made to leave, she called out to him as she fell to the ground in pain.
“Kathryn!” He called, and he immediately turned to her. He could see the tears in her eyes, and they only made his heart ache more.
He wiped her tears off slowly as he stared at her, his heart longing to see her smile again. She took a deep inhale as she took his hands in hers. “Daniel, I have a question and a request for you.” She told him, and he smiled inwardly.
If only she knew that for her, he would be willing to go to the moon and back.
“Tell me, what is it? I might be able to help.” He told her, and she swallowed.
What she was about to ask wasn’t ordinary. She really didn’t have a bug request, but what she wanted was based on trust. She sighed, and after wasting so much time, she finally spoke.
“I’m human, Daniel, and trust me, I make mistakes and also do many wrongdoings even if I don’t want to, but trust me, whatever mistakes I now make, even if I don’t want to, I’ve got no other options.” She told him, and he stared at her, confused.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked her, and she swallowed in pain.
“Daniel, in the future, should I hurt you, will you be able to forgive me, no matter how bad it is?” She asked him, and he stared at her, confused.
What prompted the question?
