His head was aching; it felt like, at any given time, he would lose consciousness again. He tried to get up again, but with every breath he took, the machines just seemed to make even more noise.
He was gasping for breath; it felt like he would lose consciousness again, but lucky for him, a nurse was there by his side, and she rushed outside.
“Doctor, come quick; the patient is having an attack!” she screamed, and the doctor, who had been with the officers earlier, rushed to the ward where he was kept and started to observe him.
“It’s a brain clot. He had a minor fall, but then it affected his brain badly. Go get the main doctor!” He yelled as Daniel continued to gasp for breath.
Martha, who was outside the room, crossed her fingers. She held on to her clothes; Daniel couldn’t die, not now at least. She wasn’t that worried about him, but then she had a job with him. He was her boss, and if she died, what would she do then?
Where would she get her salary from? She ran her fingers through her hair and said, “Oh, please, let nothing happen to the boss. I need my pay check.” She muttered to herself as she paced the place.
After a few minutes of standing, she got tired and went to sit. For hours, she was out there, and after some time, she fell asleep.
“The patient is fine; his heartbeat and brain processing rate have returned to normal.” A nurse spoke, and Martha slowly opened her eyes.
She stared at the nurse who was taking another nurse, and she got up. “Tell me, nurse. How is the patient? Is he better now?” She asked, and the nurse stared at her.
“Who are you? Are you Kathryn? He has been calling that name since,” the nurse told her, and she clenched her fists. What was so special about that woman called Kathryn?
She shook her head. She wanted to be the first person to see him, and if it meant she would have to go in there while pretending to be Kathryn, she was willing to do it.
“Yes, I am Kathryn.” She lied with a smile on her face, and the nurse stared at her.
“You don’t look like one who would make a charming man like him call out for her, but whatever, if you say you’re her, then I’ll go inform the doctor. He’ll come for you.” The nurse said that, and with that, she walked away.
She rolled her eyes. So the whole thing was just for the doctor to be informed? And what did the nurse mean by saying she wasn’t like one who would… She didn’t even want to think about it anymore; she was already so pissed, and this was the last thing she wanted to get herself stressed about.
She waited there for a long time, and when she saw the nurse was taking so much time to get back to her, she decided to go get some food.
Luckily, while Daniel was being taken care of, she found his wallet. She smiled to herself; she really didn’t get the chance to eat good food often, so today she would definitely treat herself.
Not to be gotten wrong, she ate balanced food at Daniel’s. He even took proper care of her, but then she wanted more-those rich people’s food-she wanted to have a taste of those things too. She tucked her hair behind her ear as she took the wallet out of her pocket, and the moment she did that, her jaw dropped in shock.
She knew there was a lot of money in the wallet, but she didn’t think it would be this much. She swallowed as she took it in her hands, and after making sure no one had seen her sneak the wallet back in her purse, she rushed out of the hospital.
She sat in the restaurant, admiring all the food they placed before her.
“Wow, madam Kathryn. I’m so lucky that you pushed Sir off the railing. Come to think of it, what if you hadn’t? Would I get to see all of this?” She licked her lips slowly, with a smile on her face.
She took a deep inhale as she stared at it, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Best day ever!” She squeaked to herself as she ate all the food.
At a point, when she still had a lot of money left, she even ordered the most expensive drinks, but then he had a lot of money in his wallet, and as such, she couldn’t spend it all. She smiled to herself, “So what if she couldn’t finish spending all the money in the wallet?
She chuckled. She could always spend it another day.
She sighed as she started on her way back to the hospital. She took a deep inhale; this had to be the best day of her life.
The moment she went close to Daniel’s ward, the nurse who had been there earlier stared at her with contempt in her eyes. “Where have you been?” It’s been three hours already, and I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” She scolded her, and Martha rolled her eyes.
“I had to go eat; did you expect me to starve?” She asked, and the nurse rolled her eyes.
“Go, you can go see him now!” She said.
.
Meanwhile, Daniel was groaning on the bed. His head was aching badly, and even though he was now barely conscious, he couldn’t help but be worried about Kathryn.
“Sir.” Martha called as she walked into the ward, and the moment she walked in, he stared at her.
“Where’s Kathryn? Tell her to come; I’m not mad at her. Tell her to come.” He said that, and Martha swallowed as she shut the door behind her.
“Sorry, sir, but she isn’t here. She isn’t at the hospital.” Martha told him, and at that moment, he clenched his fists.
“Where is she?” He asked her, and just as she parted her lips, about to speak to him, he closed his eyes.
Of course, how did it not come to his mind? She was obviously with him; she must be with her lover!
Tears streamed down his cheeks; he had never been more hurt in his entire life.
