Her head was aching; she couldn’t feel any part of her body, and it felt like she was paralyzed.
Worst of all, it felt like her whole breathing system had been turned upside down, and every time she tried to open her eyes, she found her head aching even more.
She cried in pain as she struggled to stand, but as she tried, she found out that her hands were tied. She shook her head, trying hard to recall what had happened to her before she lost consciousness, and that was when she recalled being bailed out of prison.
The moment she recalled the man that had come to bail her and how she tried to run away from him but ended up being caught again, her eyes opened without any difficulty, and there she found herself, in a wide room, with proper lighting from the windows and the doors that weren’t shut, and she swallowed in fear.
She turned her head slightly, and she found a man holding a whip in his hands as he stared at her, but then something was odd; he seemed to be upside down. She closed her eyes; could it be that the effects of the injection were still on her? She gulped, and just then, he started to move closer to her.
“Tell me, how long do you think it took you to regain consciousness?” He asked her, and she shook her head as tears started to stream down her cheeks.
“Godfather, please.” Before she could even finish speaking, she received a lash, right across her waist to her spine, and she screamed in pain as the whip got dragged right to her stomach.
He chuckled as he moved around her, and the moment she opened her eyes after screaming, she realized that nothing had been upside down. She was the one who was tied upside down.
“We gave you life; all you had was one darned mission, and what have you done so far?” He chuckled as he wrapped the whip even more around his hand, staring at her with even more anger in his eyes. “I’ll tell you nothing!” He yelled at her, and this time, instead of hitting her in the waist, he went behind her and targeted her spine, and before she knew it, he hit her hard there, and she screamed in agony.
He didn’t care; he was going to punish her. She had started to fail them, and it was something he would never be able to tolerate. “You used to do these things without any difficulties, but what happened? It seems you’re having a soft spot for the man, now, aren’t you?” He asked her as he hit her hard again.
As he spoke, he kept on hitting her, and it didn’t matter to him where his whip landed. All he cared about at that time was the fact that he was causing her pain. Her brain could no longer process anything, as all it could process was the pain, and she continued to scream in pain.
At one moment, when her blood had started to drop to the ground, he stopped. He threw the whip to the ground as he went to her, grabbing her by the throat as he squeezed it hard. “I used to trust you; I thought that there was no one more capable than you, but what have you done? You’ve broken that trust I had in you!” He yelled as he gave her a slap across the face, and she cried out in pain.
“Godfather, I swear. I haven’t done anything to ruin the mission. I’ll do it; please spare me.” She pleaded in pain, and he chuckled as he clapped his hands. The moment he clapped, a man who was dressed in all black stepped forward, and she stared in fear at him.
All her blood was traveling to her head, and she could no longer see properly. She gasped in pain as she tried to raise her head but then couldn’t, and just then, the godfather spoke. “Tell me. “Are you at the hospital or not?” He asked her, and she nodded.
“I was.”
“Why were you at the hospital?” He asked her, and she closed her eyes as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Godfather, I…” Before she could even get the chance to speak, he hit her hard on the back with a stick, and it felt like some of her joints ripped apart the moment that stick hit her, and she cried out in pain.
“Answer the question in a straight-forward way, Kathryn. Why were you at the hospital?” He asked her again, and she pressed her lips tight.
She couldn’t answer that question; it was just going to put her in more trouble than she was already in. She shook her head, and just as the godfather was about to ask her again, the man in the black hoodie spoke.
“I’ll tell you why she was there. It would be my pleasure.” He said that, and she raised her head slightly, shocked.
She stared at the man, and immediately she recognized him. He was the same man; he was the one who had come to get her out of prison. She shook her head. Could this day get any worse for her?
“She was there. Apparently, she had pushed Daniel off the railing in their house, and instead of leaving him there, she took him to the hospital. Tell me, Kathryn. Am I wrong?” He asked her, and she closed her eyes as more tears streamed down her cheeks.
The godfather walked to her and grabbed her by the hair. “You have become a real softie, but that doesn’t change anything. We have gone this far, and trust me, you being soft isn’t going to change anything.” He told her as he hit her again, and she gasped in pain.
He walked away from her and chuckled. “Godfather; please. Don’t do this to me, I beg of you.” She cried, and before she knew it, he hit her with a stick across the ribs, and she cried out in even more pain.
“You have 48 hours. Just forty-eight hours, Kathryn, and trust me, if you don’t complete this mission in that time, it’ll be your end.” He told her, and with that, he cut the rope that held her upside down, and she fell to the ground immediately.
