He fell to the bed at the thought of her seeing another man, and he buried his face in his hands as he closed his eyes. He swallowed as he went to the cupboard in the room, scanning through it with hopes that he would find something, but sadly, he didn’t find anything.
He fell to the floor as he kicked against the cupboard in anger, and the moment he kicked against the cupboard, he injured his foot badly and limped in pain.
He clenched his fists as he ran his fingers through his hair. What was wrong with Kathryn? This wasn’t the woman he fell in love with, so what was wrong with her now? Why was she suddenly acting like this toward him?
It hurt him badly, so much so that he didn’t know what to do. He sighed as he grabbed the glass in the room, squeezing it tightly, and because of the pressure he was putting on the glass, it ended up hurting him and then shattering in his hands.
He threw the pieces of shattered glass to the ground as he ran his fingers through his hair. “I thought we were friends, Kathryn? For the first time, I actually had a friend. For the first time in a very long time, I finally found someone I could call a friend, and even though I fell in love with you, you’ll always be my friend. I can trust you with my deepest secrets, Kathryn, so tell me, why can’t you trust me with yours?” He asked as he limped to her frame in the toom.
He smiled slightly as he stared at the frame. He had made it for her; he had gifted it to her some time back after they sealed a deal, and she liked it so much. He had given her a bracelet alongside the frame, and since then, she had never taken it off. She valued the little things that came along with the friendship, so why didn’t she value the friendship?
He sighed as he shook his head. He knew she was troubled about something, but what could it be? Knowing Kathryn, she could make one wrong decision in the name of frustration, and at that moment, the only thing he could think of that she would do because she was frustrated was see another man.
If she could act like that because of the phone, he couldn’t help but imagine what she would do when he finally found out the truth. He ran his fingers through his hair. She needed his help; he knew she did, but he just wanted her to admit she did. That was the only way he would feel more at peace.
He sighed, “What could be troubling you, Kathryn?” He asked himself.
He walked out of the room in pain, both emotionally and physically. His legs were in pain, as were his hands. As he walked down to the sitting room, his blood messed up the place, and the maid rushed to him.
“Mr. Lopez, what’s wrong? What happened to you? How did you suddenly get hurt?” She asked him, and he chuckled slightly as he turned away from her.
“There are certain things that can’t be explained, but hopefully, when the time is right, those things will come to light.” He said this as he gritted his teeth in pain.
She rushed and got him the first aid kit, but he shook his head, stopping her from treating him. “It’s alright, Martha. You don’t need to do this. My treatment is somewhere, just not in the house, at the moment at least.” He said that, and the maid stared at him.
“It’s Madam Kathryn, isn’t it?” She asked him, and he stared at her. Was it that obvious? Was it so obvious that he loved her?
He chuckled when something crossed his mind. So what if everyone could see the love he had for her? It was pointless as long as she didn’t know. He rested his head as he squeezed his hand tightly. He would just have to wait for her. He had to tell her the truth; it had to be today.
He stayed there on the couch, not even moving. He didn’t get his wounds treated, and the maid was worried that some infections would get in. She called Kathryn many times, but none of the calls went through, and she started to worry for Daniel. He could fall sick after this.
Daniel stared at the wall clock as he closed his eyes. Had she been that busy with her lover that she didn’t even bother to check what the time was? He rolled his eyes as he sighed. She would be back soon, or so he hoped.
He closed his eyes, hoping that since he was in the living room, when she walked in, he would know and then confront her about it, but sadly, that wasn’t the case.
She was already opening the door to her room when he opened his eyes, but luckily, he had seen her. “Kathryn!” He called as he got up in pain, limping up to her, and she stared at him, shocked.
What happened to him? She asked herself. He wasn’t like this in the morning when she left him, so how did he suddenly get injured? She swallowed as she stared at him. How did this even happen?
He parted his lips, about to speak, when he suddenly noticed something different about her. “What happened to you?” He asked her as he stared at her, and she immediately placed her hand behind her, covering her now swollen face with her hair.
“I’m fine, just tired.” She told him and made him walk into the room, but he dragged her back as he stared at her.
“Don’t even tell me that. First of all, who has these clothes? I swear these weren’t the clothes you left with in the morning, and… why do they look so masculine?” He asked her, and on a sudden realization that they might have belonged to her lover, he staggered back in shock.
“What’s wrong?” She asked him as she tried hard to hide the tears in her eyes, and he chuckled.
“Your boyfriend hit you, didn’t he? He was the one who did this to you, right?” He asked her, and she rolled her eyes, making to walk away when he stopped her. “I can’t believe you have a boyfriend, Kathryn. How could you?” He asked her, pain evident in his voice, and she rolled her eyes.
“And so what? What if I have a boyfriend? I’m working to seduce you, Daniel; it doesn’t mean I can’t have a boyfriend if I want.” She told him. She was lying, but deep down, she knew she was.
She didn’t want him to keep bothering her, and if this was the only way she could get him to stop, she would.
“You’re not allowed to have a boyfriend, and that’s final.” He told her angrily, and she burst into laughter.
“I’ll have whatever I want to. You don’t have a say in that, got it?” She asked him, and just as he dragged her back, she pushed him.
“Let go of me!” She yelled at him, and considering the injury he had sustained earlier to his leg, he lost balance as she pushed him with so much force.
He screamed as he fell off the railing to the floor.
