“You’re joking, right? Kathryn, tell me this is a prank and that you don’t really mean what you’re saying to me now.” He told her, and she chuckled slightly.
“I wish I could, Daniel, but maybe that’s the best thing for us to do right now. I don’t think I can continue to stay here. For now at least.” She told him as tears streamed down her cheeks.
He stared at her, and she kept on looking behind her. He was confused, what could he wrong with her? Why was she always looking behind her now?
“Are you trying to tell me something, Kathryn?” He asked her, and she rolled her eyes.
“I’ve said all I need to say. I’ll go get packing now.” She told him, and turned to leave when he held on to her hand.
“You can not just leave like that. Alright, give me a few days, I’ll convince you to stay. It’s because of me, right? I’m the reason you want to leave. I’ll change, I promise I will.” He told her, and this time, the tears streamed down her cheeks more uncontrollably.
She wiped the tears as she turned away from him. “Don’t do this Daniel, please. I’m not leaving because you’re a jerk, I’m leaving because…” she hadn’t even completed her statement when he spoke.
“Kathryn, I know it’s because of me. I know I’m the only reason you want to leave. Please, don’t go. I beg of you.” He told her, and she took in a deep inhale.
“I want to stay, Daniel. I really do, but has it ever crossed your mind that maybe I’m not doing the things I want to do? Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe someone is forcing me to do certain things?” She asked him, trying to get a message across to him but he just didn’t get it.
She tried to relay several secret messages to him, but he was just bent on convincing her to stay, and as such, he didn’t get her messages. “Fine, I’ll stay. But only for a few days. Please, Daniel. After those days are over, don’t ask me to stay.” She told him, and with that walked away from him.
She walked to her room and the moment she was in her room, she shut the door behind her as she fell to the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks.
While she was in tears, she received a call and placed the phone to her ear. She closed her eyes the moment the call was over and she threw it to the ground.
“Why me? Why does this have to happen to me all the time?” She asked herself as even more tears streamed down her cheeks.
She took in a deep inhale as she wiped her tears, pulling her knees close to herself as she closed her eyes. It didn’t matter whether she wanted to do it or not, she had no choice in this.
She dragged herself to the bed as she laid on it, staring straight at the ceiling. Why didn’t he just get her secret messages? They were friends; weren’t they? If there was anything she had come to know about friends, it eas the fact that friends could understand each other without saying a word.
If this was true, why couldn’t he understand her? Why could he not understand that whatever she was doing, she wasn’t doing of her own accord?
She closed her eyes, she had being trying so hard, she had being doing her best to show him that she was doing this for him. She had even tried to relay messages to him that showed that she wasn’t doing anything and that he wasn’t to be worried about her but then he didn’t get any of them.
She sighed as she closed her eyes, hopefully, very soon, all this would be over with. She just hoped this wouldn’t end her friendship with Daniel.
.
THE NEXT DAY….
She slowly opened her eyes as she dragged herself out of bed. She went to the balcony in her room as she looked outside, smiling to herself. Nature was so beautiful; simple, and at the same time, complicated.
She wished she was just like the flowers in there garden, just leaving their best lives and then getting watered every day. She smiled to herself, she just wanted these things to be over with as soon as possible.
She walked into the bathroom and started to freshen up.
Meanwhile, all through the night, Daniel couldn’t sleep. He was worried about Kathryn. She was never like that, and the fact that she looked so restless made him extremely worried about her. She looked like she was going through a lot and it hurt him that she didn’t want to share her problems with him.
He sighed as he started to walk past her room. He stared at the kitchen, she wasn’t there and at that moment, he knew something was really wrong.
She was always in the kitchen at this time of the day, there was never a day she didn’t cook and that was because she loved cooking. What happened to her, and why was she acting this way?
He decided to go to the garden and take a stroll when sudeenly, there was a call from Kathryn’s room.
She didn’t take the call as the phone continued to ring and at that moment, the previous day’s incidents came to mind. What if she was lost in thought again?
He shook his head as he walked into the room and on walking in, he realized she wasn’t there. She was in the bathroom.
He took the phone and placed it to ear, and the moment he placed the phone to his ear, he heard a very husky masculine voice speaking. “You seem to have forgotten what I can do to you, haven’t you? Tell me, what…” before the man could finish speaking, the phone was dragged away from me and there Kathryn was, with a towel around her chest.
“Stay away from my things, is that too much to ask of you?” She asked him, angrily.
