Chapter 24

Book:Hundred Shades Of Love Published:2024-6-2

Lindsey walked out of the royal hotel putting on a white dress matched with a pair of a black court shoes, she had a hat on her head and was putting on a sunshade which made her look like a medieval princess couple with the fact that she was putting on a white and black scribed hand glove.
Miguel was stunned for the moment, drooling at Lindsey’s beauty, never had he seen medieval wear look so good on someone in such modern age. “You look_” he paused as his eyes trailed over her body and his lips covered in a satisfying smile. He lifted his head and meet Lindsey’s eyes on him “Good” he completed the sentence nodding his head. “Thanks, you aren’t looking bad yourself,” Lindsey managed to say snapping out of her thought, she had been wondering why Miguel was looking at her in such a manner, she thought her dress wasn’t good for the event but then his last word proved her wrong. “But why would he be staring at her?” Lindsey couldn’t help but wonder. She glanced at Miguel as he helped her open the car door and she got in before he walked over to the other side of the car to get in.
For a moment, Lindsey felt pampered, that was the kind of life she had dreamt of having but Keith was never going to give her such, he clearly didn’t like her and he didn’t hide how he felt about her. Lindsey let out a bitter smile. “Life doesn’t really go as we plan,” she said turning towards Miguel who smiled at her before driving out of the hotel.
Lindsey didn’t take her eyes off him, she kept wondering why he was so nice to her, he clearly wanted to be friends with her despite having a sour relationship with Keith. Aside from Leen, no one has ever been so kind to her not even Angela, her mother, she was obviously interested in money and only started showing her fake motherly love to her after her marriage with Keith.
Lindsey resisted all urge to ask him why he was kind to her, she thought it might make the atmosphere awkward and uncomfortable for the both of them. She fluttered her lashes taking her eyes out of Miguel, and turning them to her side of the window. Just then her mind raced to the movie she had watched yesterday. After Miguel brought her back to the hotel she had soaked herself in movies and ended up watching a lot of movies, and in one of the movies she watched, the female lead wasn’t loved by her husband and her childhood friend who she thought was just a friend to her ended up showing her lots of love.
Lindsey gasped and her eyes widened as the storyline flashed through her memory “Is anything the matter? Did you forget something at home?” Miguel who noticed her recent facial expression asked sparing her a glimpse which was enough to access her. “I’m fine,” Lindsey said slowly, getting a hold of herself, she avoided looking at Miguel and there she made up her mind that she was going to come up with an excuse not to go out with him after the charity event. She can’t possibly be in a relationship with him while married to Keith.
Miguel was convinced that something was wrong with her but since she wasn’t ready to tell him, he decided not to push it any further. He didn’t want to make her uncomfortable around him or give her a reason not to want to see him again.
He drove into the charity event venue and parked carefully before alighting from the car, he wanted to go over to the other side of the car and help Lindsey but she was already out of the car and he felt something strange from her body language. “Are you okay?” He asked again, he didn’t like the way she was suddenly behaving towards him. Lindsey glanced at him and flashed him a fake smile murmuring an okay while walking away from him.
It took a lot of power for Miguel not to run towards Lindsey, he wanted so badly to grab her hand while they walk into the venue but he knew he couldn’t do that, aside from Lindsey being married, there were a lot of reporters here who wouldn’t waste the slightest minute and publish a lot of crabs and lie on the internet about the both of them.
Lindsey took in a sign of relief after looking behind her and realized Miguel wasn’t following her. ‘But how sure are you he likes you, he might just want to be a friend and nothing more’ her subconscious said to her making her feel guilty for how he had treated him but she couldn’t take any chances, what if he does like her? That wouldn’t be good for her in any way.
“Hi, Mrs Winslow, you are here again, without your husband,” Sharon said with a big lively smile plastered on her face. Lindsey stared at her, her face looked a lot more familiar but she couldn’t remember where he had met her. “Omo, don’t you remember me, gosh it has been barely forty-eight hours and you are already having a hard time remembering me,” Sharon said surprised “Does amnesia come with your new title” she added in a whisper but Lindsey heard her loud and clear, maybe because they weren’t far apart from each other.
Lindsey wanted to retaliate but on a second thought she held herself from doing, if she had met the sassy rude intern a few months ago, she would have taught her a very big lesson but now she was married, into a family that has a high social profile and doesn’t joke with their reputation, she would have to be careful not to do anything to tarnish their reputation.
“I remember, the intern reporter from the wine event, the name was_” Lindsey paused trying to remember the name. “Sharon,” Sharon said with a smile. Lindsey flashed her a fake smile. “I hope we get along well and I can schedule an interview with you later in the future,” Sharon said extending a handshake. Lindsey stared from her to her extended hand and smirked. Sharon noticed the awful expression and withdrew her hand letting out an awkward embraced laugh while looking around to know if someone saw what just happened.
“I’m guessing you don’t want to be friends with me, I really thought all elite has reporter friends just in case, I guess you already have yours,” Sharon said. Lindsey glanced at her accessing her, she worked in a press company who focused more on politics but never as she meet someone so naive as Sharon who couldn’t go around looking for things that aren’t looking for her.
“I’m sorry my dear but I don’t have all the whole time, I’m actually one of the VIPs in this event and I don’t want to be late, I hate it so much when I’m late,” Lindsey said. “Oh sorry, I already exhausted the time meant for the interview, thanks for your time,” Sharon said stepping out of the way for her to pass. Lindsey raised her chin and took the first step walking away but stopped at Sharon’s words.
“Nice dress, it’s a limited edition dress and it looks good on you” Sharon paused. “Mind if I take some pictures?” She asked and before Lindsey could say a word Sharon already took two good shoots. “Nice catch,” she said looking at the pictures she took. She looked up and meet Lindsey’s eyes on her, she could tell she was angry judging from how she was staring at her but she didn’t care. She smiled at her before walking away.
“This is going to be interesting” Sharon muttered as she walked over to the other side to join the other reporters.
Miguel from a distance saw all that happened, he had wanted to interfere but decided to let Lindsey handle it. With her new title as Keith’s wife, she would be approached by lots of reporters daily and he wouldn’t always be there to save her, it’s best if she takes care of it herself and even gets used to such a life.
The event lasted for five hours and there were a lot of dignitaries that attend the event, at the end of the day, they were able to raise a huge amount of money for the less privileged, the poor and the needy. The reporters all had a good shoot of the event and were uploading pictures, videos and write up of all that happened on the internet for the world to see.
“I guess you are now free to join me for the ice riding,” Miguel asked. Lindsey could sense the excitement in his voice and it broke her heart that she was turning down his harmless request. “I’m sorry, but I’m not sure if I would be able to join you, I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen towards the ending of the event and when I went to the restroom to check, I found out it was having cramps,” Lindsey said not feeling the need to mention what was wrong with her, with what she had said, Miguel wouldn’t force her to join him and he wouldn’t suspect her either since she went to the restroom before the event ended but that was because she wanted to ease herself and adjust her makeup.
Miguel nodded his head staring at her white dress “But you aren’t stained” he said. Lindsey looked at her dress and thought of a perfect lie to match the previous one. “Oh I don’t usually get the heavy flow on my first day but I get an unbearable cramp” Lindsey said acting as if she was feeling pain. “Also, I borrow a sanitary pad from the infirmary there” She added slowly.
Miguel stared at her for a while before he spoke “I will drive to your hotel and then get you some pain relieving medicine,” he said and started the engine. Lindsey wanted to stop him from getting the drug but that would just make him suspicious of her life, she just nodded her head and mumbled a thank you making her voice sound weak.
