After Leonard’s matter was settled, Richard returned to the Clark family. Abbie wasn’t asleep yet and was sitting alone in the living room in a daze.
Richard walked to her and sat down. Then, he reached out and patted her on the shoulder. “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
“I can’t sleep. Richard, he… he will be fine, won’t he?”
“Don’t think too much. He will be fine.”
“I don’t want anything to happen to him… Richard, I actually hate him very much and have never thought of being with him again. I have suffered enough! Every time I made up my mind to cut all ties with him, something bad would happen like what happened now. Richard, what should I do?”
Richard understood Abbie’s dilemma. “Abbie, do you still love him?”
“I don’t know! I hate him! I hate him so much!”
“You can’t let him go, can you? You and he broke up three times, but he has always been in your heart.” Richard sighed. “To be honest, I don’t want you and him to start over again. After all, the Davis family doesn’t respect you. I don’t want my most beloved sister to be looked down upon, but Michael could even abandon his life for you… He protected you twice! Abbie, I believe that you can find a man who loves you, but it should not be easy for you to find one who is willing to protect you like that.”
Richard’s words reflected what Abbie was thinking. He continued, “What’s more, you share a child with him. You insisted on giving birth to Emma not only because she was your child, but because she was Michael’s too, right? If it were another man, would you be willing to give birth to a child for him?”
Abbie shook her head. Then, Richard glanced at the time and said, “Go and rest. Tomorrow, take Emma to the hospital to visit him.”
At nine o’clock the next morning, Abbie took Emma to the hospital with the bodyguards of the Davis family.
Michael’s life was still in danger. Soon, Abbie was dressed in a protective suit and carried Emma into the ward.
Michael had tubes in his body and remained motionless with his eyes closed. His face was as pale as snow.
This was the first time in a while she had looked at Michael so closely.
She hated Michael! However, it was undeniable that she loved Michael more than she hated him. Otherwise, she would have regarded him as a stranger by now.
Abbie reached out and caressed Michael’s pale face as tears rolled down her cheeks. Emma was laying in her arms, and when she saw Abbie’s tears, she reached out her little hand to wipe them.
Abbie couldn’t hold back her tears any longer, and when Emma saw her mother cry, she too began to sob.
The crisp cries of a child rang out in the ward, and the doctors and nurses came in a hurry.
“Miss Clark, I’m sorry. You might disturb other patients. Please leave the ward!”
Abbie quickly dried her tears and was about to leave with Emma in her arms. Just then, on the hospital bed, Michael’s fingers suddenly moved, and he slowly opened his eyes with difficulty.
His eyes were not in focus as he looked at the ceiling for a bit, and then he slowly turned around to look at Abbie’s departing figure. With difficulty, he spat out the word. “Abbie!”
Abbie, who was carrying Emma, turned her head around abruptly. When their eyes met, tears flowed down her face uncontrollably.
The news that Michael had woken up was delivered to Leonard when he boarded the plane.
Leonard smiled when he heard the news. “He survived! How lucky! Thank God! No wonder I’ve lost everything to him!”
The assistant didn’t dare to reply and followed Leonard into the plane in silence.
After Leonard sat down in his seat, he said to himself, “I’ve been tricked by Richard and William. Hah, they said that the Davis family wants to come after me and put me in jail! They must have lied to me, right? They must have been scheming to take advantage of me and threaten me. How sneaky of them!”
“Mr. Floyd, please don’t be angry. We can still run the business abroad…”
Leonard scoffed. “That’s right. I can only comfort myself like this right now! I’ve wasted all my efforts and lost both my wife and my business. It’s my fate!”
The assistant did not dare reply as Leonard was still furious. Then, he glanced at his phone and said, “Mr. Floyd, Evelyn’s child has been dealt with. The child is gone.”
Leonard lay down and rested with his blindfold. He didn’t say a word until the plane took off.
Michael was not awake for long and soon fell asleep again because of his weak body.
He had been holding Abbie’s hand as she sat on the edge of the bed for more than ten minutes. Seeing that Michael had lost consciousness again, she didn’t stay for long and left the ICU with Emma in her arms.
At the door, they met Wayne, Stanty, and Meadow, who came to visit Michael.
When the three of them saw Abbie, they stopped and talked to her. Wayne even had the audacity to want to hold Emma. “This is Emma, right? Can you let your great-grandfather hold you?”
Wayne reached out his hand with anticipation, wanting to hug Emma, but she hid her face in Abbie’s chest, refusing to let him carry her no matter what. Wayne’s expression was awkward, and Abbie’s tone was stiff. “She’s afraid of strangers.”
“I’ve heard from William that you and Emma had suffered a lot. It was the Davis family that let you down! I was blind. I shouldn’t have done what I did back then!” Michael apologized.
Meadow also apologized. “And me, I am also the culprit. I was blinded by greed and treated you poorly. Abbie, I was wrong, and it has nothing to do with Michael. Michael has always loved you. I hope you can forgive Michael and give him a chance. As long as the both of you are fine, I promise I will never appear and disturb you in the future.”
Abbie truly didn’t like Meadow, nor did she have anything to say to her. Standing here and saying these things was too awkward. She smiled slightly and used Emma as an excuse to leave. “I have to go. Emma hasn’t eaten anything yet. She must be hungry now!”
The Davis family could not stop her, so they watched Abbie leave. Wayne sighed and said, “She still hasn’t forgiven us yet. Be careful when talking to her in the future. Don’t offend her, understand?”
Stanty and Meadow both agreed as Wayne added, “That child is so beautiful! I wish I could hold her!”
Meadow said with a flattering smile, “Yes, she is very beautiful. She inherited all of Michael’s and Abbie’s traits. She must be very beautiful when she grows up!”
“Of course. This is all your fault! If you hadn’t colluded with Azalea, would we have ended up like this?” Wayne glared at Meadow irritably.
Meadow was so scared that she lowered her head and didn’t dare to speak. Stanty smiled and said, “Dad, Meadow knows her mistakes. She has been trying to find a way to make up to Abbie and her child. You can rest assured that we will find a way for Abbie to forgive Michael.”
“Hopefully!” Michael ordered, “Bring gifts to Abbie to show your sincerity every now and then from now on. You must make her forgive you. Only when she forgives you will she get along well with Michael!”
“I will!” Meadow was no longer as mean as she used to be and was very obedient now.
