Chapter 1737 Can’t Hide

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Leonard couldn’t even hide his smile when he left the Clark family, and even his assistant could tell that something good must have happened from his expression.
“Mr. Floyd, what did the Clark family say?”
“It doesn’t matter what they say as long as they agree to my marriage with Abbie. They want me to find a highly respected person to propose the marriage.”
“That’s great!”
“That’s good, but where am I going to find a suitable candidate? I don’t know anyone that’s influential here, except for the Floyd family.”
Leonard had a strange expression on his face when he mentioned the Floyd family. “Alright, I’ll go to the Floyd family and ask Fandrey to help me propose my marriage to the Clark family. I’ll get back at him this time!”
“Will they agree?”
“It doesn’t matter at all since Fandrey has always been adamant about maintaining his principles. He took me in at the beginning, so there’s no reason for him to refuse if I apologize to him out of regret, right?”
Leonard had a satisfied expression as he said, “Prepare a lavish gift immediately. I want to personally apologize to the Floyd family!”
Richard returned to the living room after he sent Leonard off. He saw that Helen was wiping her tears while Donald was sighing.
“Mom, why are you crying?”
“How much pain has Abbie suffered? She didn’t dare to admit that Emma was her child, and I actually treated Emma… I feel so upset!”
Richard took out a tissue and wiped Helen’s tears. “Mom, you didn’t know the truth at all. so don’t take this too seriously. You can just love Emma even more now that you know the truth.”
“I will definitely love my granddaughter, but I just feel guilty about how I treated her before. She has lived here for so long, but I have never really looked at her. She tried to grab my hand once, but I flung her arm away. Why was I so cruel to her?”
Helen’s heart felt as if it had been stabbed. Richard and Donald tried to console her for a long time, but they failed to do so. Donald had no choice but to say, “Don’t be sad about this, we have to think about Leonard first. Richard, why did you agree to the marriage without discussing it with us?”
Helen stopped crying and looked at Richard when Leonard’s marriage was brought up. “That’s right. Why did you agree to this?”
“Don’t worry, Abbie will never marry Leonard for the rest of her life.”
“Why?”
“I have some substantial news about Leonard.” Richard didn’t hide it anymore. “Leonard had gotten a woman pregnant and he can’t deny it. Since he had an affair and a child, he doesn’t have the right to marry Abbie anymore.”
“This…” Donald was surprised and relieved at the same time. “Richard, you have to find a way to protect Leonard’s mistress in case he plans on getting rid of her.”
“She’s at a very safe place right now, so Leonard can’t do anything to her. I’m afraid that even Leonard is unaware of this.”
“That’s good. I’m relieved! Let’s talk about Abbie and her child now.” Donald sighed. “Abbie hid this from us because she was afraid that we wouldn’t accept Emma. We have to show her that we’ll accept Emma with open arms, so we should treat Emma well from now on and dispel Abbie’s worries.”
Neither Helen nor Richard had any objections. Donald then brought up the Davis family, “Since Michael can’t have any children, the purpose of Wayne’s apology is very obvious. It’s impossible for them to take Emma away from us, so we need to protect her at all costs!”
“How dare they try to snatch Emma away? I’ll stop them no matter what!”
Richard couldn’t help laughing. “Mom, there’s no need for you to do that, Dad and I will handle this.”
As they discussed how to treat Abbie and Emma, both of them coincidentally came back home.
When Helen heard the servant’s message, she was the first to stand up and rush out. Richard couldn’t stop her at all. Meanwhile, Abbie had gotten out of the car with Emma in her arms when Helen rushed out and stopped in front of them. She reached out to Emma and said, “You’re back, let me carry you!”
However, Emma didn’t let go of Abbie’s neck at all. As Abbie looked at Helen in astonishment, she noticed that her mother’s eyes were swollen and it was obvious that she had cried.
Her mother’s eyes had never been so red and swollen ever since she could remember, so what had made Helen cry?
Abbie had a vague idea when she saw that Helen’s attitude towards Emma was completely different from before. Helen probably already knew that Emma was her child.
Abbie followed Helen into the villa with Emma in her arms while Richard and Donald were in the living room. Richard smiled and picked Emma up as he said naturally, “Let me carry you!”
Emma stretched out her little hands and threw herself into Richard’s arms while Abbie stood stiffly in the same place. She was just guessing previously, but Richard’s words had already explained everything she needed to know. She then looked at Donald and Helen. “Um… Mom, Dad, do you all know about the truth? I’m going to tell you!”
Helen’s eyes were moist. “You! How can you hurt me like this? Do you really think that I’m so vicious and heartless? You’re my only daughter, and your child is my grandchild. No matter who is her father, she’s still part of my family. How can you keep it from me?”
She hit Abbie a few times as she spoke, but she didn’t use too much force. Emma, who was still in Richard’s arms, immediately burst into tears because she thought that Helen had hit Abbie.
Richard immediately coaxed her. “Emma, don’t be afraid. Grandma didn’t hit your Mom, she’s just joking.”
Helen didn’t dare to touch Abbie again and she sat down next to Richard to coax Emma. “I didn’t hit your Mommy. Don’t be afraid, Emma!”
Tears welled up in Emma’s eyes as she stared at Helen as her little nose twitched. Helen reached out to wipe away her tears, but she immediately hid her face.
Abbie sat down. “This is Grandma, and she likes you very much. Grandpa loves you too!”
Emma timidly hid in Richard’s arms as she stared at Donald and Helen. Donald reached out towards Emma with a smile on his face. “Give me a hug!”
Emma just watched him, but she didn’t move at all and Richard said softly, “Don’t be afraid. Grandpa won’t hurt you, he loves you very much.”
“You’re our little princess!” When Emma sensed that Donald had no ill intentions, she hesitated for a moment before reaching out to grab his hand and his eyes were moist. “Good girl!”
Helen wanted to hug Emma desperately as well after she saw this, but Emma was still a bit wary of her. She could only sit next to Donald and catch Emma’s attention with a toy as she took this chance to touch Emma’s little hands.
Abbie was originally worried that her parents would reject Emma if they found out about her background. She was filled with relief when she saw how happy everyone was.
Since everyone knew about Emma, she might as well tell everyone that she hadn’t lost her memory. “Mom, Dad, I still have something to tell you.”
