After 11 o’clock, Valeria rushed to the Clark family with William in their pajamas.
Seeing that Abbie was alive, Valeria was surprised and delighted. She rushed over to hug Abbie and cried. Helen had stopped crying at first, but when she saw Valeria crying, she started crying too.
Anna had also returned from her date with Raymond. When she saw Abbie in the living room, she cried out in surprise. She then rushed over and hugged Abbie. “Abbie! I’m not dreaming, am I?”
After saying so, she burst into tears. Seeing the women crying, William tried to console them. “It’s a good thing that she came back. Stop crying. We should be happy!”
After some persuasion, Valeria and Helen stopped crying. Without Leonard around, Abbie was not as indifferent as before. When Valeria asked her all sorts of questions, she replied like her usual self.
Richard sighed in relief to see that Abbie was not hostile toward Valeria and then motioned for William to go to the study with him.
He closed the door and said, “Leonard must have a motive for saving her!”
“That is obvious. Can you spot anything?”
Richard shook his head and said, “I can’t spot it now! He performed very well.”
“All we can do is take it one step at a time.” William thought for a moment and then asked, “Richard, if Leonard were to ask the Clark family for Abbie’s hand in marriage, would you agree to it?”
“How is this possible?”
“Why is it impossible? Abbie has lost her memory, and Leonard has spent a lot of time with her. If he had such thought, Abbie might not refuse.”
William meant that Leonard would brainwash Abbie. Richard also had the same suspicion. “This means trouble! Abbie doesn’t remember us now. Won’t she listen to everything Leonard says?”
“Yes, that’s what I’m worried about. That’s why we have to think of a way to deal with it.”
Valeria didn’t go home but insisted on staying at the Clark family mansion to spend the night with Abbie.
William had no choice but to go home alone. Instead of returning to the Howard family’s mansion, he went to Michael’s ward.
Michael was awakened by William in his sleep. He rubbed his eyes and looked at William in confusion. “Why are you here at this time? Is there anything important?”
“I have something to tell you!” William sat down and said, “Abbie is still alive.”
“Really?!” Michael sat up abruptly and grimaced as he felt the pain from his wound. “William, you’re not lying, are you?”
“Leonard saved her. The person you saw at the airport was indeed Abbie. Leonard brought her back to the country! She is now back with the Clark family!”
“It’s great that she’s alive!” Michael ignored his wounds. “I’m going to see her now!”
“She won’t see you! Richard and Donald won’t let her see you either.”
William stopped Michael. “There’s one more thing I haven’t told you. Abbie has lost her memory. She doesn’t remember anyone, including her family and friends.”
“How could this be?” Michael murmured. Since Abbie couldn’t even remember her relatives, how would she remember him?
The last time Abbie had an accident, she had only forgotten about him. But now she couldn’t remember anyone. The Clark family hated him to death. They surely wouldn’t give him a chance to get close to Abbie. What else could he do?
The more Michael thought about it, the more despaired he became. Seeing his dismay, William could only comfort him. “Michael, no matter what, at least she is alive.”
“I know! I also tried to convince myself that it’s alright as long as she’s alive. But in the future, we will be like strangers when we see each other. My heart…”
Michael reached out and ruffled his hair. Then he suddenly thought of something. “What about the child? Where’s Abbie’s and my child?”
“I didn’t see any child!” William shook his head. “Leonard said that Abbie was covered with wounds when she was rescued. She was in a coma for several months before she woke up. Isn’t it unlikely that the child is still alive under such circumstances?”
“The heavens are really cruel to me!” Michael closed his eyes in despair.
If the child were alive, he would still have a chance to reunite with Abbie. But now that the child was gone, there was no hope for him to ever reunite with Abbie.
William had guessed what Michael was thinking. He sighed and reminded Michael, “Michael, the moment you used Azalea to take revenge on the Davis family, there’s no chance for you and Abbie to reconcile! I only told you Abbie was alive to reassure you and also prepare you mentally in case you see her in the future. Don’t try to go near her again. Richard won’t ever allow you to do so anyway. Think about it carefully. The most important thing is that she’s alive!”
Early the next morning, Azalea brought the child to Michael’s ward. Michael leaned against the head of the bed, looking pale while deep in thought. Azalea walked to the bed with the child in her arms. “Michael! I’ve brought the child here to see you!”
Michael didn’t move. He only sat there looking lifeless.
Azalea was a little scared to see Michael in that state. She handed the child to Michael. “Michael, look at our child!”
Michael showed no response. After William left, he thought about it for a whole night.
He concluded that it was impossible for him and Abbie to reconcile.
This was not the result that Michael wanted. He was glad that Abbie was alive, but he could not accept being strangers with Abbie from then on.
As Michael ignored Azalea, she secretly gritted her teeth and pinched the child hard. The child then burst into tears.
Hearing the child’s cry, Michael turned his head and looked at the child in Azalea’s hands.
The child was well taken care of. He was fair, chubby, and looked a lot like Azalea. When Michael saw the child, he thought of Abbie’s and his child. If it weren’t for this disgusting woman, nothing would have happened to Abbie, and his child wouldn’t have died.
If it weren’t for this disgusting woman, he and Abbie wouldn’t end up as strangers!
It was all caused by this wretched, disgusting thing!
Michael suddenly reached out his hands. Azalea thought he wanted to hold the child, so she happily handed the child over.
Michael did not take the child in her hand. Instead, he grabbed Azalea’s neck and strangled her. “B*tch! Go to hell!”
Azalea was caught off guard by Michael’s forceful grip on her neck and found it hard to breathe. She struggled desperately and tried to beg Michael to let go. “Michael… Michael, are you crazy? Let… let go!”
Azalea stammered as she pleaded, but Michael did not intend to let go. As she sensed that Michael really wanted her to die, Azalea panicked.
She reached out to tug at Michael’s hand. The child was thrown onto the ground, and he cried loudly.
Michael didn’t seem to hear it. He grabbed Azalea’s neck without letting go and used all his strength instead.
Azalea struggled with her hands and feet with the strong desire to survive. She scratched Michael’s hands until they were dripping with blood.
However, no matter how hard she tried, Michael did not let go. Her throat was hurting more, and she could no longer breathe. Azalea’s struggle began to die down. Finally, she rolled her eyes and fainted.
