Leonard was to meet Richard at eight in the evening, so he brought Abbie to the meeting place at seven.

“How can I get hurt with Silas around?” Braelynn patted Silas’s shoulder gleefully. “You’ve worked hard today. Go back and rest well. I’ll give you and the guys some reward money and treat you all to dinner another day.”
Silas scratched his head. “It’s alright. We were only doing our duty!”
“You have to accept it. I still need you guys to work for me some other time.”
Richard’s expression darkened when he saw Braelynn laughing with Silas. “Who else do you want to beat up next time?”
“I’ll beat you up! I’ll beat you if you are disobedient!”
Richard pulled Braelynn to his side and said, “Come with me.”
“What are you doing? I still have something to say to Silas.”
“Talk to him later.” Richard dragged Braelynn inside, not allowing her to refuse.
“I want to go home. I really have to go home.”
“Just give me a few minutes. I’m going to meet someone. I’ll take you home after that.”
Braelynn was not happy. “Why are you bringing me along to meet people? I don’t know the people you’re meeting.”
“Be obedient. We will leave shortly after meeting him. It won’t take you much time.”
“Who are you going to meet?”
“Leonard Floyd!”
“Then I’m afraid you can’t see him. He was beaten black and blue by me and taken away by the police.”
