Azalea stayed in Michael’s ward for three hours, but he still did not wake up. It was already night. Azalea wanted to wait for him to wake up at first to show her loyalty.
However, Michael still would not wake up. She was famished, so Francis sent her back to her ward.
After Francis left the hospital, the servants brought Azalea her postpartum meal, and she started eating.
Halfway through her meal, her phone rang. She answered it casually. “Hello? Who is it?”
“It’s me! I’m back! Are you ready?” The voice on the other end of the line made Azalea’s hair stand. Abbie?
How could it be Abbie? The phone in Azalea’s hand suddenly fell to the ground.
The call was hung up. She looked at the phone on the ground fearfully.
She had to be hallucinating. It couldn’t be Abbie. Hadn’t she died so long ago?
Azalea calmed down and picked up her phone. A message then came in. Azalea opened it and saw Abbie’s face up close on the screen. She screamed and threw the phone out again.
Upon hearing Azalea’s scream, the servant who was caring for her immediately came in to take a look.
“Miss Clark, what’s wrong?”
“I… Nothing! It’s nothing.” Of course, Azalea would not tell the maid that she was frightened.
The servant picked up the phone that Azalea had thrown on the ground and said with a regretful expression, “The phone broke!”
Azalea came to her senses. “Buy me another one!”
Michael woke up at seven o’clock in the evening. When he opened his eyes, he heard William’s voice. “You’re awake? How do you feel?”
“I have a headache!” Michael took a deep breath. “My body hurts too!”
“It’s normal if it hurts. It would be worrying if you can’t feel the pain.” William stood by the bed. “I’m curious as to how you got into the accident. That place was miles apart from where you reside. Why did you speed all the way there?”
Michael immediately thought of Abbie, whom he had seen before the car accident. “William, I saw Abbie!”
“Are you having a fever? That’s why you’re blabbering?” William reached out to test the temperature on Michael’s forehead but was pushed away. “I know what I saw! I saw a woman at the airport who looked exactly like Abbie. I followed her to take a closer look but didn’t expect to get into this accident.”
“That’s strange!” William thought for a moment and asked, “Do you remember the number of the car you chased after?”
Michael remembered it and told William the license plate number. William looked at Bobby and instructed, “Go and check this license plate number.”
Bobby immediately made a phone call. After more than ten minutes, he came back and told William, “This car belongs to Leonard.”
“Leonard’s car?” William repeated. Michael was also surprised. “How could it be Leonard’s car? How would Abbie be involved with Leonard? This is impossible!”
“It can’t be Abbie!” William denied.
“William, I’m not mistaken. It’s really Abbie! I’m as familiar with her like you with Valeria. Will you mistake Valeria for someone else?”
Of course, William would not mistake Valeria for someone else. He frowned and thought for a moment, then his expression changed. “Could it be… Could it be… Impossible! It’s impossible!”
“What are you talking about? What is impossible?”
William didn’t dare to delve into his assumptions. He shook his head and said, “I’ll investigate it first. Take care of yourself. I’ll tell you the results if any.”
William left the ward with Bobby and went to the parking lot. After getting in the car, he said, “Could it be that the mysterious woman by Leonard’s side, who we have been investigating but can’t find out her identity, is Abbie?”
“Could it?” Bobby asked.
“I’m not sure. When Leonard first appeared, the woman was already in the hospital. At that time, our investigations reported that she was a Chinese woman who had been in a coma. The hospital is 50 miles away from the sea where Abbie got into the accident. Besides, the time the woman was hospitalized was about the same as the time of Abbie’s disappearance.”
“Mr. Howard, are you suspecting that Leonard saved Abbie? If so, why didn’t Abbie contact the Clark family after so long?”
“I know. I can’t seem to figure this out too. Why didn’t she contact the Clark family if she is Abbie? Could it be there are other reasons?” William frowned. “This whole incident is strange. If not, did Leonard get a woman to change her face to be like Abbie through surgery? What does he plan to achieve with this? This is only to deal with Michael? Isn’t he making a mountain out of a molehill? Anyhow, I need to tell Richard about this.”
William then dialed Richard’s number. “I have something to tell you. Michael had a car accident today! Do you know how he got into a car accident?”
“Why didn’t he die?” Richard had no sympathy for Michael. “I’m not interested in anything related to him.”
“I just came out of his ward. He told me that he got into the car accident because he saw Abbie and followed her.”
“You believe his make-believe story?” Richard sneered.
“Richard, listen to me. I investigated according to the information provided by Michael and found that the car Michael followed was Leonard’s car. Leonard has a mysterious woman by his side. I sent people to investigate her for a few months but didn’t find any useful information. The date of this woman first appearing beside Leonard is close to the time when Abbie disappeared. Moreover, when I first found out about this woman, she was in a hospital. Now that Michael saw someone who looked like Abbie, I suspect that Leonard’s mystery woman might be Abbie.”
“William, are you crazy? Why are you playing along with Michael’s madness? If she is still alive, why didn’t she come back?”
“I can’t figure it out. That’s why I’m not concluding that she is Abbie. Another assumption is that Leonard got a woman to change her face to look like Abbie’s through surgery. He must be up to no good.”
“Leonard, that bastard!” Richard scoffed. “He asked me to meet him today. He said that he had something important to tell me.”
“Really?”
“I’m on my way to see Leonard now. I’ll call you later!”
After Richard hung up the phone, William frowned. Leonard actually took the initiative to meet Richard. What did he want?
Could it be that the mysterious woman beside him was really Abbie?
William frowned. Bobby glanced at his phone and reported to William, “Mr. Howard, Silas sent me a message. Braelynn commissioned them to do something for her tonight.”
“Did he say what?”
“It seems they’re going to fight, but Silas doesn’t know who. Braelynn only asked them to go with her. She wants to beat up the other party tonight. Silas and the others are helping her deal with the person’s bodyguards.”
“Ah!” William guessed who Braelynn was going to attack after giving it some thought. “Tell Silas and the others to protect Braelynn well! Don’t ever let her get hurt.”
