Michael returned home after sending Abbie home and saw many missed calls on his phone. He looked through them and saw they were from Richard and William. He then immediately returned William’s call. William answered and said, “You still know to return my call?”
“I was busy. William, I’m so happy. Abbie accepted my proposal and agreed to get our marriage license with me tomorrow. I’m so excited! Hurry and congratulate me! I need to share my happiness with my friends now!”
William naturally wouldn’t let Michael down. “Congratulations on your successful proposal.”
“Thank you! William, I’m overjoyed. I want to let the whole world know about my happiness.”
“Don’t. You’d better hide your joy in your heart. Richard will kill you first if he finds out about this.”
“I did this in secret precisely because I’m afraid of Richard finding out. This is supposed to be a joyous occasion to be shared with everyone. But because our families are opposing our marriage, Abbie and I don’t dare to share the good news. When I think of this, I feel I have wronged Abbie. I have wronged her so! This won’t do. I should announce this news anonymously.”
“That’s enough. Don’t be such a drama queen. I called you because I have something important to tell you.” William was slightly annoyed. “I’m telling you. Richard already knows about your proposal to Abbie, and he’s looking everywhere for you.”
“How did he know?” Michael was shocked.
“How would I know? Anyways Richard hates your guts. You better be careful. He is still in a rage, and he won’t treat you well if he catches you. Don’t blame me for not warning you if you become crippled. Oh right, his men might already have your location. So take care!”
“What…” Michael was shocked and looked at his rear-view mirror subconsciously. “William, damn it. There’s a car tailing me.”
“Then just wait to die!”
“No, please, help me. I’m going to get my marriage license tomorrow. Since we’re such good friends, you can’t let me become disfigured and miss my appointment, right? I’m begging you!”
“Remember, you owe me another favor.” William then looked at Silas as he spoke. “Has Jaxon done the arrangements for Michael?”
“Just now, Jaxon sent a message saying that Mr. Clark and his men have found Michael.”
“If that’s the case, then there’s nothing to worry about.” William heaved a sigh of relief. “Michael, I saved you again this time. You have to remember it. Michael glanced at the car that was tailing him and sped up his car. The car immediately followed him.
Michael continued to speed up. From the rear-view mirror, he saw a black G-Wagon accelerate and cut off the car that was tailing him. The man in the G-Wagon gestured to Michael and kept his car constantly wedged between Michael’s car and the other car. The other car was intercepted and couldn’t keep up. So Michael became at ease and stepped on the accelerator as he knew he would be safe then.
Michael was safe, but William was in peril.
Richard’s men, who were tailing Michael, immediately reported to Richard after they were intercepted and failed to catch Michael.
The first person that came to Richard’s mind was William. So he called William angrily and asked, “William, are you the one who messed things up?”
As Richard was furious, William didn’t dare admit it. “What do you mean? Mess what up?”
“Don’t pretend. Do you dare to say that the person who helped Michael escape tonight is not your subordinate?”
“Richard, what are you talking about? Help Michael escape how? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Are you going to keep pretending? I would live broadcast myself eating shit if it’s not your subordinate who helped Michael to escape!” Richard immediately cursed. “I’m also your good friend, and our relationship is as close as you with that bastard Michael. So why are you fucking helping him and not me? How could you?”
William could only avoid Richard’s questioning and not admit that he was the one who helped Michael. Richard didn’t have any evidence. When Helen’s call came in later, Richard could only give up pestering William and answered Helen’s call.
