Raelyn was displeased as Gavin demanded her to come over when it was already late at night. She wanted to reject his request as she sensed that something bad must be happening. However, she immediately changed her mind just so that her plan would not be jeopardized.
She nervously went to visit him. She eventually arrived and took a peek at Gavin. She then asked, “Dad! What can I do for you?”
“Well, I would like to ask you about something utterly important. ” Gavin gestured her to have a seat and continued speaking, “You have suffered a great loss due to the plunge of Bitcoin, right? I would like to have a look at your trading account.”
“Well… I will need to make a trip back home as I have left the transaction details there. It would be a hassle for me to go back and forth,” Raelyn immediately came up with an excuse.
Gavin knew that she must be hiding something judging by her reaction. He grinned and said, “I see. Well then, let me head home with you to read about the details.”
“But…”
“You are not in the midst of something, aren’t you? It’s not logical for you to be busy as it’s already late at night, right? Besides, you have basically lost all your capital due to the unsuccessful investment of Bitcoin. You wouldn’t have the time and effort to focus on something else, would you?”
Gavin continued with a stern look on his face, “Oh wait, I don’t think there is a problem. Time is on my side even if your schedule is currently packed. I shall accompany you back home while you get busy. I can then have a good read about your trading account when you have completed the tasks on hand.”
Raelyn knew that it was useless to keep pretending as he was very persistent about her so-called investment detail. She immediately knelt down on the ground and confessed, “Dad, I’m so sorry as I have lied to you! I neither suffered any loss nor purchased Bitcoin from the very beginning. However, I’m telling you the truth about having a financial problem nowadays. I chose to deceive you as I am left with no other choice. Natasya’s face has been ruined and I needed to provide financial aid for her to have plastic surgery…”
His gaze was increasingly grim as Talitha was indeed telling the truth. “You then made up such a story just to swindle my money? Do you possibly think that I am a foolish person?”
“Dad, please forgive me as I have realized my mistake! I was forced to do this as I have no other ways out!”
Gavin felt pity upon seeing her daughter who was bawling her eyes out. He finally understood how Hayden had felt when he tried to side with Savannah last time.
He recalled the mocking remarks that he had made towards Hayden for being blindsided and how the tables have now turned. He was a high ego person and could not bear to make a fool out of himself in the face of Hayden.
Gavin glanced at her coldly and said, “I decided to lend you a helping hand from your loss of investment as you are my daughter. However, it’s ridiculous for you to lie and I am genuinely not a fan of dishonest persons. You need to return back the money before I disown you as my child! Well, I have no objection should you deny my request. However, I will cut ties with you once and for all!”
“I…” Raelyn did not expect her plan to be ruined and was initially feeling reluctant about it. However, it would mean becoming on bad terms with Gavin should she refuse to return back the money. His wealth was clearly more than sixty million and she needed her father as a shield to benefit her in the future.
“Alright, I’ll give it back to you!” Raelyn immediately transferred the amount back to his bank account.
Gavin waved his hand towards her upon confirmation of receipt and said, “You can leave now! I would like to have some time alone!”
“Dad, I feel ashamed of my despicable behavior. I shouldn’t have lied to you!”
“Alright, stop repeating yourself. You shall learn from your mistake and never repeat it ever again. I still have sharp thinking despite my age. I will let bygones be bygones if you turn to a new leaf.”
Raelyn had a gloomy expression on her face upon exiting the villa. She felt displeased upon having to top up two million of funds to return back the initial amount that she had swindled from Gavin.
How did Gavin know that she was lying? Who had told him about this? She would never let the whistleblower off the hook should she ever find out about it!
The following scene happened in the Howard Family’s old estate. Valeria was seated on the sofa while watching a soap opera. Her legs were slightly bloated as she had gone out for a stroll throughout the entire day. William massaged her legs gently and complained, “Do you realize how swollen your legs currently are? You need to be cautious and reduce your shopping time from now onwards.”
“Why would you make such a fuss when dad has no objection about it?” Valeria glared at William and continued speaking in a confident tone, “It would do me good by walking around especially during my pregnancy. You should feel glad as I have listened to the doctor’s advice accordingly. Laying around while doing nothing will make the childbirth process much harder for me. Hence, it’s beneficial for me to have regular exercise.”
William squinted his eyes and replied, “Since when you have so many ideas in mind and is that even an exercise per se? Are you trying to play dumb when you clearly went shopping with Abbie for a long time? You even secretly consumed ice cream and spicy dishes. Pfft! Dad will definitely give you an earful should he know about this!”
“Have you been keeping a close eye on me? You’re such a busybody for instructing someone to tail me around. You would keep this a secret from dad, wouldn’t you? I will let you have your own taste of medicine should you betray me!” Valeria threatened him.
“What? I’ve been working hard and have been the best version of myself. Don’t you think that it’s ridiculous to badmouth me when I am clearly the innocent one? I instructed someone to protect you from afar as I’m worried about you. How pitiful of me to be misunderstood by you. William reached out and poked her forehead before continuing, “You should feel grateful for having such a thoughtful husband like me!”
“Pfft! You always have a bunch of reasons in mind but you have to promise me in keeping this a secret from dad. You would experience h*ll if you turn your back against me!” Valeria rolled her eyes towards him. She then instructed him in a bossy tone, “Move down a little as my calves need more attention and care. The swell is not due to excessive walking but just a side effect of my pregnancy. Look at the huge bulge on my stomach! The babies clearly did this to me.”
“I see. Well, I shall accompany you to have a checkup tomorrow. We can then know the reason behind your swell from the doctor.”
“Are you feeling sceptical now?” Valeria queried.
“Of course not. Let’s pay the doctor a visit tomorrow as I’m worried about you. I’m such an excellent partner who pays undivided attention to you. I work hard in my career and accompany you for daily activities. I even provide massage service and go to bed at the same time as you. Don’t you think that I am the most perfect husband in the world?”
“Alright then. You shall spend the night in our guest room as I don’t want your presence today. I would like to have the bed for myself today!”
Hayden came in with a box in his hand while the couple bickered with each other. He deliberately ignored the fact that William was massaging her leg and said with a smile, “Valeria, I have bought you something!”
“Dad, stop buying food that is lacking in nutrients for her.” William felt concerned upon seeing the bag in Hayden’s hand.
“You have misunderstood me as this is beneficial for pregnant women.” Hayden sat down and opened the box before continuing, “These pastries are made from fresh corn and it tastes really good.”
Valeria was no longer in the mood for a massage session. She immediately sat up and had a bite of it. Hayden glanced at her dotingly and said, “You’re scheduled for a checkup tomorrow, aren’t you?”
William nodded and replied, “Yes.”
Hayden grinned and said, “I shall accompany you both then!”
William swiftly refused, “Dad, you need not make such a hassle. It’s fine for me to accompany her alone.”
“Don’t you know the reason why I insist on tagging along? She would be undergoing an ultrasound test tomorrow. I would like to know first-hand about the gender of my precious grandchildren.” Hayden chuckled and was very upfront about his feelings.
