Chapter 691 To Prove Oneself Innocent

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Hardy picked up the phone immediately and said excitedly, “The footage of Declan’s death has come out and we have successfully thrown William under the bus!”
The mysterious man chuckled and said, “That was the reason why I am calling you, and let’s now move on to our next step.”
“What would be our next move?” Hardy asked.
“Tell the entire world to point fingers at William and also accuse him of all the things that Declan had done. William was the mastermind behind all this and he gotten rid of Declan was because he was afraid that Declan would turn his back against him.” The mysterious man laughed and was feeling on top of the world.
“Besides that, you have to utilize your connections and try your very best to get William into the police station to be interrogated.”
“Is that all?” Hardy asked.
“Of course not, as interrogation is just the beginning of the game! If you could force him into jail and ensure that he can’t escape, he will be as good as dead soon!”
Hardy was taken aback, “As good as dead? Are you sure that you can get rid of him? I would like to remind you that William is no ordinary man and it won’t be easy to deal with him.”
“I know that, isn’t he the president of Wolf Group? Haha!” The man scoffed and said, “Nothing is impossible. I will come up with a way to kill him as long as you can get him into the police station!”
Although the mysterious man was influential, Hardy was not confident that he had the ability to deal with William.
“Are you sure you can get rid of him? This is B City which is the territory of the Howard family. Hayden had long been here and it would not be an easy task for you to mess with William under his nose.”
“This is why I have come up with a pre-requisite. You have to get him into jail for me to stand a chance against him, right?”
“It would be difficult to lock him up as we are well aware that he is not the murderer. The police have no reason to arrest him without any concrete piece of evidence. Besides, Michael, that bastard is a pain in the ass as he has the capability of bailing William out of jail within a minute.”
“Don’t you think that you need to think harder to come up with a plan?” The man continued, “This is a great chance. You won’t let this opportunity slip by, would you?”
“Of course I won’t, but it’s not easy to handle this matter.” Hardy sighed.
“Go and have a chat with Devon. The plan should work as long as you are able to persuade him to exert pressure as the victim’s family member,” The man suggested.
Hardy was still not convinced, “Let me have a try first. The Anderson family is ambitious and has been aiming at William for a long time. Natasya is determined to win him over and I don’t think that they want to get on his nerve.”
“Well, all hope is on you then. We can win this game by an eighty percent chance if you could convince them, or all efforts would be gone down the drain.”
Hardy was finally feeling a little confident and decided to come up with a way to persuade Devon and Raelyn to join forces with him.
He pondered for a moment before picking up his phone and called Talitha. “Do remind your parents that I have invited them over for dinner tonight.”
Talitha sighed and said, “Hardy, something bad has happened to my uncle. I don’t think my parents have the time and energy to join you for dinner tonight.”
Hardy replied with a serious tone, “You should seek confirmation from them and we will then talk about it.”
Talitha sensed that Hardy was feeling grumpy and she had no choice but to call Raelyn. “Mom, is the dinner plan with Hardy still going on?”
Raelyn replied impatiently, “How could we? Didn’t you watch the news? Your uncle is in trouble and your father and I would be busy dealing with your uncle’s matters.”
“Why did he choose to die now out of all the time that we have plans today,” Talitha muttered and hung up the phone.
Raelyn was unhappy as she heard Talitha’s mumble and glanced over Devon, who was sitting on the sofa.
Devon had been sitting there with a painful expression on his face ever since the news of Declan’s death broke out. He had been staying that way for a long time.
Declan was not pretending and was indeed saddened by the news.
They were brothers who were close with each other and always had each other’s back. However, he was now agonizing with guilt when he knew that Declan’s death was curated by both him and Raelyn.
Raelyn in contrast was coping with it much better. She had shown her kindness towards Declan merely for the sake of her husband.
She did not have to live in fear anymore since the death of Declan had covered up all the things that they had done.
Raelyn sighed and walked towards Devon who was feeling blue. She sat down and reached out to hold his hand, “Honey, cheer up! This is out of our control and you need to toughen up to face the problems that we are about to deal with.”
Devon withdrew his hand from Raelyn’s and snapped, “Please leave me alone!”
His sudden reaction had surprised Raelyn as he had always been kind and gentle towards her.
She looked at Devon and cried out pitifully, “Honey!”
Devon suppressed his frustration and said, “There is a lot going on my mind now! I would like to catch a breather!”
“Honey, I know. However, you can’t sit back and do nothing when Declan’s news has been blown out of proportion. You have to come up with something!” Raelyn reminded him.
They were well aware of how Declan had passed away and thought that the matter would slide away as time passed. However, they never expected that it blew up and William was the one receiving the blame.
As the only brother of Declan, Devon could not stay silent and must do something as the news was a hot topic now.
Devon’s thoughts were in a mess but he remained silent. Raelyn reminded him once again, “Honey, you have to be stern since things had gone out of hand. You shall first exert some pressure on the public inspection system to let them come up with something.”
“Let me think about it first!” Devon replied.
“You can’t hesitate any longer! You have to act swiftly now!” Devon finally picked up the phone and called the personnel in B City to inquire about Declan’s matter.
The personnel of B City had told him that the team was placing high importance on Declan’s death. They had set up a special task force to investigate the matter further and would provide the public with a thorough explanation.
Devon’s mind was not as sharp as usual since he was clouded by sad emotions due to the death of his brother. He only knew that the personnel was being polite towards him but did not catch the hidden meaning of the conversation. The personnel claimed that he would provide an opinion publicly instead of privately.
