Chapter 603 Putting On An Act

Deborah told the bodyguard to drive her home after leaving the hospital.
Soon, she headed to the study room when she got home and said to Fandrey, “Dear, Natasya has just fallen ill in the hospital. She was in so much pain, and it made me think of William.”
“What?” Fandrey was surprised and asked, “What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor couldn’t find the reason and reckoned that it might be because of the fever. I watched her carefully back there. She seemed to be in pain and was drenched in sweat. Could she have drugged herself too when she drugged William?”
“How is that possible?” Fandrey shook his head and said, “She drugged William to gain control of him. Why would she be foolish enough to drug herself as well?”
“But judging by what I saw, it’s impossible that it was due to a mere fever. I’m just wondering if she got a taste of her own medicine after drugging William. After all, he doesn’t listen to her even after he was drugged and does not seem to like her at all.”
Fandrey scoffed and said, “That’s impossible. William would have done it a long time ago and wouldn’t wait this long. After he woke up, he has been treating her coldly all this time. They don’t look like a couple at all. But she hasn’t been like this before this, has she?”
“Then, what do you think it is? She seems to be in deep pain, and it’s definitely not caused by a fever. What else could it be if it’s not due to the drug?”
Fandrey frowned and thought about it for a moment, but he couldn’t think of a reason either. Deborah then shook her head and said, “Forget it, I don’t care if she’s in pain or not. It has nothing to do with us. She’s an evil treacherous piece of trash that is trying to plot against William and she deserves it! Let’s not dwell on such a depressing topic. Who are you intending to assign as William’s escort when he heads back home?”
“Sammuel will escort him and I will arrange for a few more men to follow them too,” Fandrey replied.
“Would it be enough? Fandrey, I’m very worried. After all, Juxemburg is not a place we can control. We won’t be able to do anything if something bad happens.” Deborah continued with an anxious look, “The person that targeted William was so cruel that he did not even stop under our nose. What if my precious grandson gets hurt out of our watch?”
Fandrey chuckled upon seeing the concerned look on Deborah’s face, “Don’t worry about it. William isn’t as weak as you think.”
“What? Didn’t you see how frightened he was after the incident that happened yesterday?”
“No, I actually think that his reaction yesterday was a tad bit interesting. Silas seems interesting too,” Fandrey replied while brushing his chin and grinned.
“What are you talking about? Stop beating around the bush and spill the beans to me.”
“I think that William is just putting on an act.”
“What? How… how is that possible?” Deborah was utterly shocked by Fandrey’s speculation.
“The quiet ones are usually the most dangerous. I think William is hiding something!”
“What on earth have you gotten ahold of?”
“I’ve sent someone to find out about the people that attacked him and received news that the businessmen back in our country are very afraid of him. Why would they be afraid of William, a playboy?”
“That’s hard to say as they might be interested in the wealth of his family. Could it be that the Howard family plotted against him all this time?”
“Nope, that’s not possible! Charles is the most competent among them but has ended up in jail. Based on my understanding, the other two of them don’t stand a chance against William. Besides, if William was a nobody, there wouldn’t be people who wanted him dead. There must be something fishy going on seeing that they all want a piece of him. We shall sit back and watch if you’re feeling doubtful about it.”
“Why would he hide it from us if he is indeed capable? Is he afraid that we will harm him?”
“No, I reckon that he just does not trust the people around us.”
Deborah was still not convinced and reminded him, “Dear, I truly hope that your guesses are right.”
“Don’t worry! I’ve assigned the most capable men to keep an eye on him. Nothing bad will happen to him even if he really is a playboy or my guess is correct.”
Then, Deborah went to find William, who was playing games on the sofa in his room. He was so focused on the game that he did not even notice Deborah coming up to him.
Deborah stared at his game for a while and sighed, “William!”
After Deborah called his name two more times, he finally noticed her and said, “Grandma, what’s the matter? Let’s talk about it after I am done with this round. I am about to lose!”
Deborah was initially swayed by Fandrey’s words and thought that William might really be different. However, she changed her mind instantly after seeing him being so immersed in his video game.
Why would he have time to play video games this leisurely if he really was that capable?
Then she sat down beside him and said, “William, I went to see Natasya just now and she just woke up.”
“Oh?” William’s attitude was as cold as ice as he continued to play his game.
“When I was talking to her, she was in great pain suddenly. I don’t know what happened!”
In great pain, huh? William was secretly pleased as he knew that the drug had taken effect. Then, he asked while still playing his game, “Is it that serious? What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor has no idea what caused it.”
“Oh, does that mean that she can’t head home with me?” William asked.
“I’m afraid it would not be possible as she is sick, after all,” Deborah replied.
“We shall let her recover here, then. I’ll head back tomorrow since she can’t return with me. Grandma, please do arrange for someone to change my flight.”
At this, Deborah sighed and asked, “William, will you be alright alone?”
“Of course!” William paused his game and reached out to hug Deborah, “Don’t worry! I will be fine!”
“How can I not be worried?” Deborah reached out and caressed his head, “William, you still can’t remember anything yet, can you?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“I would not be this worried if you managed to remember something!”
“It’s okay, grandma. Didn’t grandpa already arrange for his men to escort me? I’m not a child anymore. I promise that I will be on my toes.” William narrowed his eyes as he was not convinced that Natasya would stay put. He then continued, “Grandma, let’s sort out the plane ticket first.”
Soon, Deborah sighed and left. Then, William picked up his phone and sent a message to Marcus, “I’ll be coming home tomorrow!”
“That’s great! I’ll tell Mrs. Howard about this right away!” Marcus was very surprised.
William replied, “Don’t bother, I want it to be a surprise. By the way, I don’t remember what she likes. I plan to buy something as a gift for her. Do you have any idea?”
“I don’t know about it as well, but you returning home safely would be the best gift to her,” Marcus replied as he was not aware of Val’s interest either.
After that, William put down his phone and thought of what to give Val as a present. It would not be wise to head home with empty hands, right?
