Chapter 601 How Are You This Silly

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

To Valeria’s surprise, Hayden didn’t make things difficult for her at all. They had small talk, and Hayden soon left the ward with Lucas when it was getting late.
Valeria saw them off at the elevator and after watching Hayden enter, she returned to the ward.
She was relieved by Hayden’s easygoing manner, but at the same time, she was worried about William as he had a headache because of her again.
As she thought about this, Valeria picked up her phone and sent a message to William. “Baby, are you alright?”
It was afternoon now in New York, so Valeria did not expect William to reply to her immediately as he might be busy.
However, William replied soon. “Can I see you? Let’s have a video chat!”
Then, as Valeria answered his video call, William’s handsome face appeared on the screen. She was so excited to see him that tears filled her eyes involuntarily.
Looking at her tearful eyes, William couldn’t help but reach out to touch her face on the screen. Valeria did the same too as she stared back at William’s face silently.
They stayed like this for a while before William broke the silence, “Val, you’re so beautiful!”
Valeria burst into laughter. “Am I the prettiest?”
“Yes! You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life!”
“Kiss me, then!”
At this, William smiled and kissed her. Even though they were miles apart and could only see each other through screens, Valeria was satisfied and happy. Although William did not remember her, he still doted on her like how he had back then.
“Val, it’s late now. You have to rest! Good night!”
With sparkling eyes, Valeria looked at William with deep affection and dependence. “Honey, I miss you. I want to sleep in your arms. I’m lonely when you’re not here.”
“When I come back, you can sleep in my arms every day.” William’s voice was sweet and loving. Although he could not remember Valeria, sweet words would come out of his mouth naturally whenever he talked to her.
“Let’s make a pinky swear!” Valeria raised her finger, and so did William. Their fingers touched each other’s through the screen, and this made Valeria smile through her tears. “Promise me. William will love Val for the rest of his life!”
“William will love Val for the rest of his life!” William repeated after her subconsciously.
Hearing their conversation, the caretaker, who was standing next to Valeria, couldn’t help but tear up.
“Mrs. Howard, it’s getting late. You must rest earlier! Staying up late is bad for your health!”
Upon hearing the caretaker’s words, William froze for a moment. “Are you ill?”
“No! I’m fine.”
“Don’t lie to me. Are you sick?”
“I’m not, really!”
“Let me see where you’re staying in.” William was not easily fooled. Just now, he had paid all his attention to Valeria’s face and had neglected her surroundings.
Since he insisted on this, Valeria had no choice but to turn her phone around.
She was staying in the best ward in the hospital, which looked a lot like a hotel room, but it couldn’t fool William. “Are you in the hospital? What happened?”
“Nothing, I’m alright now.”
“Don’t lie to me. I don’t want to hear lies.”
“Sir, Mrs. Howard almost died after you went missing! If it weren’t…” The caretaker interrupted.
“Auntie, that’s nonsense!” Valeria stopped her. As Valeria said this, the caretaker realized that she had almost told William about Valeria’s pregnancy.
So she immediately changed her words. “When she heard that you were alive, she slowly recovered, and now she’s doing quite well.”
Upon hearing the caretaker’s words, William’s face was filled with shock as he couldn’t imagine that Valeria would care this much about him. If he were really dead, wouldn’t Valeria be…
“Silly Val!” He reached out and touched Valeria’s face on the screen once again. “How are you this silly?”
“Honey, auntie is exaggerating. I’m in good health now! It’s just that I miss you a lot!”
As he heard this, William felt complicated as his feelings were all mixed up. It was late at night and Valeria shouldn’t stay up late because she was still weak, so he comforted her in a soft voice, “Val, it’s getting late. Go to sleep! I’ll see you tomorrow. Be a good girl, alright? Good night!”
“Good night!” Valeria hung up the video call reluctantly.
After hanging up, William heard a knock on his door. Then, he went to open the door and saw that it was Silas.
“What’s the matter? Come in!” William said deliberately.
As Silas nodded his head timidly, he went into William’s room and closed the door. Then, he lowered his voice. “William, I saw Miss Floyd sneaking around at your door just now, and she seems to be eavesdropping. When she saw me, she went upstairs right away.”
“Is that so?” William laughed. “It’s alright, she won’t be able to hear anything anyway.”
He gestured for Silas to sit down. “Are you feeling better?”
“Yes, I’m much better!” Silas nodded.
“That’s good! Did my grandparents come to you?”
“Mrs. Floyd came to me once and asked whether I was willing to work for the Floyd family, but I refused.”
“They know there’s something wrong with you, but they aren’t able to find out anything. My grandparents have no bad intentions towards me, so there won’t be any danger even if they suspect you, but we have to be cautious around others. Fortunately, we are going back soon, so we can stop worrying about it for the time being.”
“William, have you decided on when you’re going back?”
“Yes, I’ll be back before the day after tomorrow. I’m waiting for Natasya. She should have recovered these two days, I guess. She’s been on pins and needles in the Floyd family and must wish to leave here. She’ll probably be glad if I told her we’re heading back.”
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Natasya’s fever had finally gone in the afternoon. When she woke up and opened her eyes, the caretaker was pleasantly surprised. “Miss Anderson, you’re awake!”
Natasya nodded and looked around the ward. As the caretaker saw this, she knew that Natasya must be looking for William. “Mr. Howard just left. He’s very worried about you.”
Natasya was rather happy when she heard that William had just left as it proved that he still cared about her.
Then, she asked the caretaker to help her sit up so that she could have some water. Just then, Angel pushed the ward door open and strode in.
The caretaker greeted Angel when she came into the ward while Natasya suppressed her hatred and looked at Angel weakly. “Miss Floyd!”
Angel walked to the sofa in long strides. She sat down and said to the caretaker, “Please leave. I want to speak to Miss Anderson privately.”
At this, the caretaker obeyed and exited the room. On the other hand, Natasya was terrified at the sight of Angel as she hadn’t been very kind towards Natasya and she didn’t know what Angel had wanted to talk to her about.
Angel stared at Natasya for a while and sneered, “I’m curious about something, are you really my cousin’s girlfriend?”
“I’ve answered this question before, haven’t I?”
“I’m asking you again. Are you sure you’re really my cousin’s girlfriend?”
Angel’s stare bored into Natasya, who answered unblinkingly, “Of course!”
“If you really are my cousin’s girlfriend, then who is she?” Angel asked as she flashed her phone to Natasya’s face while pointing at Valeria’s picture on the screen.
