Chapter 541 Where There’s A Will, There’s A Way

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

William had only received the news about Elizabeth at eight o’clock the next morning. He and Valeria had enjoyed their spontaneous camp by the beach and had watched the sunrise together too. As they were about to head back to have breakfast, William received a call from Marcus.
William was calm when he heard that Elizabeth had regained her consciousness, “Do not let Charles know about this and inform Lamont to bring Mason along to visit Elizabeth immediately. Mason will tell Elizabeth what she should do next.”
Valeria, who had overheard William and Marcus’ conversation, was surprised as she said, “I thought Elizabeth would be in a coma forever. Her recovery would make Charles go bonkers!”
“Yup. Let’s wait and see what Elizabeth has to say.”
“Do you think that she will tell the truth?”
“I’m not sure either as she did have her hands dirty. After all, she was one of the masterminds behind this. She would still be punished by the law if she reveals the truth. If she cares about Mason enough, she’ll be honest. However, Charles would not let her off the hook either even if she refuses to say anything about it. My guess is that she would probably come clean.”
Meanwhile, Mason, who was brought to the hospital immediately after the news, was teary-eyed as soon as he saw Elizabeth. He sobbed and ran towards Elizabeth as he greeted his aunt, but choked on his words and had only managed to hold Elizabeth’s hands tightly as he continued to weep.
Elizabeth broke out in tears too as she stroked Mason’s face lovingly.
Lamont stared at them expressionlessly and thought that human beings were peculiar and strange. No matter how vicious the person was, they would almost have a soft spot, and Mason was Elizabeth’s.
After some time, Mason finally stopping crying and composed himself. Then, he helped Elizabeth wipe off the tears from her face.
“Aunt Elizabeth, we are left with no choice. Charles has been looking for me everywhere ever since you went into a coma. I’m currently hiding in President Saunders’ house and I’m scared out of my wits as Charles would definitely seek revenge on both of us. He would have killed you long ago if you weren’t under President Saunders’ protection.”
“I know. They only saved us because we have something they want, right?”
“Yes, everyone does things for a reason. Can you give them the answer they want?”
“Mason…” Elizabeth gave a bitter smile and stared at her son as tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
She had gone this far to help Mason. However, it had all turned to dust and she was now left with nothing.
Charles had already found out that Mason was actually Elizabeth’s son. She understood that her plan was now trivial and would even bring harm to Mason. Therefore, she had decided to speak the truth instead of having Mason living in fear every day. She was willing to take the blame considering that Mason was still young and it wasn’t fair to ruin his life and future like this.
Elizabeth reached up to wipe her tears away and looked at Lamont as she said, “I will tell you everything I know, but on one condition.”
Lamont looked at her calmly and said, “You are in no position to ask anything from us. You would go to jail if you tell the truth, but Mason would no longer have to live in the dark. However, Charles could destroy the both of you easily should you decide to keep your mouth shut. Please think about it carefully.”
Elizabeth replied with a sad smile, “It’s just a simple favor. Please keep Mason safe.”
“Mason will be safe and sound as long as you come clean, won’t he?” Lamont sneered and continued, “All we want is evidence. Both of you would be free when Charles is charged with a death sentence if you tell us what you know.”
“I’m worried about Savannah and Hayden, not Charles. Would they push the blame to Mason?”
“Savannah is in a mess herself. As for Hayden, you wouldn’t have to worry about him as he is a logical man. He would not hold a grudge against Mason as he has nothing to do with this.”
Elizabeth had initially wanted to seize the opportunity to obtain some financial assistance. However, her plan flew out the window as Lamont was stern and not lenient towards her at all.
Where there was a will, there was a way. Everything would be worth it as long as Mason was safe and healthy. Otherwise, she would be left with nothing.
Finally, Elizabeth took a deep breath as she said, “Alright! I’ll tell you everything!”
Meanwhile, Raelyn had gone to bed relatively late yesterday, hence she had switched her phone off and slept in. Suddenly, she was awakened by Natasya, who had knocked on her door.
Raelyn yawned while opening the door as Natasya with a dark expression, “Mummy, Talitha gave me a call and said that Paisley is looking for you urgently. She needs you to call her back immediately.”
It was definitely an important matter for Paisley to be in such a hurry, so Raelyn instantly called Paisley. Soon, Paisley answered the phone in a worried tone, “Mrs. Anderson, I have big news. Elizabeth had regained her consciousness.”
“Huh? What’s the big deal about it?” Raelyn asked with a frown.
“It might not be a big deal to you, but it is for Savannah and Charles. Lamont had already made his way to the hospital with Mason. Aren’t you going to tell Savannah about it? Charles would be in a big mess too, so doesn’t this mean that it’s the perfect chance to deal with Savannah?” Paisley asked.
Raelyn understood immediately and replied, “Alright. I’ll inform Charles and Savannah right now. Paisley, thank you so much for telling me about this!”
After hanging up, Raelyn got ready hurriedly while Natasya crossed her arms as she followed Raelyn, “Mummy, Paisley sure is something. She seems to know many secrets.”
“Of course. However, she gets all the information from her brother Hardy. Well, it’s actually a good thing for us. Like today, for instance, if it weren’t for her, I would have missed this opportunity.”
“What about it?”
“I’ll tell you about it later when I come back. I’m heading out now to look for Charles and Savannah.”
Savannah still hadn’t recovered from her cold yet and was still suffering from a blocked nose and breathing difficulties. That morning, the doctor had come over to give her an IV drip and she was currently resting in bed. Not long after, Ashley returned to the villa and had made breakfast for her. However, Savannah had only taken a few mouthfuls before putting it down as she didn’t have an appetite.
Just then, the sound of a car engine could be heard outside the villa, and soon came Raelyn’s anxious voice, “Savannah! Savannah!”
“How dare she come here!” Savannah was furious whereas Charles frowned and said, “Keep your cool. Try controlling that temper of yours, alright? You won’t accomplish anything with that attitude of yours.”
Savannah suppressed her anger as Raelyn made her way into the villa and greeted Charles with a smile, “Mr. Howard, you’re home too! I’m here to visit Savannah.”
“Mrs. Anderson, please have a seat!” There was no trace of uncomfortableness across Charles’ face as he took a stool for Raelyn to sit on.
Raelyn did not thank him, instead, she walked towards the bed directly with a concerned look, “Oh, my! Look at how skinny you’ve become! It pains me to see you like this.”
“Hah!” Savannah let out a cold laugh.
Raelyn ignored her attitude and continued, “Besides checking in on Savannah, I have something important to tell the both of you.”
“Raelyn, what is it?” Charles pretended to be curious.
“I just received news that Elizabeth has regained her consciousness and Lamont has brought Mason to the hospital.”
Charles was stunned upon hearing the news, “How is that possible?”
The doctor had told him that Elizabeth would be in a coma for the rest of her life. Besides, shouldn’t the hospital inform him, Elizabeth’s husband, first thing when she woke up? Why did the hospital hide this from him?
Did they lie to him from the start?
As he thought of this, Charles sprung up all of a sudden.
