Soon, when Raymond and Gavin arrived at the ward, Valeria and Natalie had stopped crying and had wiped away their tears. Gavin, however, was a little embarrassed when he saw that Natalie was still alive.
Despite being embarrassed, he apologized to Natalie for what he had done.
“It was all my fault back then. Please forgive me for doing those stupid things! I’m so glad that you all have finally reunited as a family. From now on, I will never harm you again, and you could be together with Archer happily.”
As Gavin apologized, Natalie stared blankly at him and did not answer. On the other hand, Raymond was a little shocked as he tentatively called, “Mom!”
The situation was completely different from the last time when he saw Natalie in the hospital. This time, Natalie had no reaction when Raymond called her, and Gavin was stunned by this. “What’s going on? What’s wrong with her?”
“She doesn’t remember us now!” Archer replied as he smiled bitterly.
“How… How could this happen?” Gavin was shocked and Raymond couldn’t believe it too. “She was still fine when I saw her a few days ago. How could it be like this? Have you asked the doctor about this?”
“Yes, he says that we have to wait for the examination results.” Valeria replied.
“What should we do? Will she be alright?” Raymond was upset when he looked at the expressionless Natalie.
“It depends on the doctor… ” Suddenly, there was the sound of footsteps and Lucian appeared at the door. Archer sneered when he saw her. “How dare you to come here still?”
“I… President Garcia, are you alright?” Lucian looked at Natalie with hopeful eyes.
However, Natalie sat on the bed indifferently and said nothing.
Lucian was secretly relieved when she saw that Natalie had indeed lost her memory. Just then, Archer approached her. “Lucian, how could you be this cruel? Why are you doing this to Natalie?”
“No! President Saunders, please calm down. This isn’t what you think!” Lucian took a few steps back.
“Then what is this supposed to be? Don’t blame me if you can’t give me a reasonable explanation today!” Archer chuckled coldly.
At this moment, Valeria came over too and glared at Lucian angrily. “Why didn’t you tell me that mom is still alive? Why did you hide it from me? What are you trying to do?”
“Yes, Lucian, President Garcia is still alive, so why did you lie to Valeria and everyone? What exactly do you want?” Lamont questioned as well.
“She must have done something bad to mom!” Raymond also pointed at Lucian angrily. “If not, why would she lie to us? We must make her pay!”
Lucian remained calm when she faced their accusations, “Can you all please listen to what I have to say first?”
“We’ll give you a chance, Lucian, but this time don’t try to lie again. Just tell us everything you know. Maybe we’ll consider forgiving you!” Archer threatened.
Lucian sighed, “Why do you all regard me as a betrayer? I am forever loyal to President Garcia. The truth is, I had no choice! I didn’t mean to hide this from all of you, but this was all President Garcia’s order. She faked her death in order to deceive Savannah, but something happened to her health. So, she didn’t allow me to tell anyone the truth.”
“I don’t believe you!” Valeria scoffed. “Mom shouldn’t have trusted you so much. Don’t you feel guilty for betraying her? If dad hadn’t come and met mom in the hospital today, are you planning to keep us in the dark forever?”
“No, of course I wasn’t planning on that. I was planning to send President Garcia to Ruthorham today to have her body examined. She is gradually losing her memory, and now she has even forgotten me. I had intended to cure her before telling you the truth. I really didn’t mean to harm her!” Lucian explained further.
“If you don’t believe me, you can ask the nanny or the bodyguards. They can vouch for me.”
William, who had been silent all this time, said calmly, “Only you know if you have a clear conscience. But now, the important thing is to do a detailed examination on her. Let’s just wait for the results. We can discuss about the others after the results is released, alright?”
“I agree with William. Nothing’s more important than the examination results.” Gavin said in agreement. “Come on, let’s leave. Archer can stay and look after Natalie!”
“I want to stay with mom too,” Valeria said deliberately.
“Be good, Valeria. Your dad must want some time alone with your mom now. You’ll have plenty of chances to see her in the future.” After William pulled Valeria out of the ward, Raymond also left with Gavin. Then, Lamont looked at Lucian coldly. “Miss Barnbook, didn’t you hear Gavin’s words? Why are you still standing here? Please go out!”
At this, Lucian unwillingly followed Lamont out of the ward and she was still explaining to Lamont when they walked to the elevator, “I really didn’t mean to…”
“That’s enough, you don’t have to explain to me. You know very well yourself whether you did mean to lie or not. We are not fools and you aren’t smart enough to fool us all either. You’d better ask yourself how President Garcia has treated you and what you have done to repay her!”
After saying this, Lamont walked towards the stairs and left, leaving a pale-faced Lucian behind. Since Lamont was always polite to her, his attitude today showed that he didn’t believe her at all.
Lucian felt angry but was anxious at the same time. Since Lamont was suspicious of her, William and Archer would definitely think the same way too.
She had to find a way to divert their attention. As she thought about this, she entered the elevator quickly and went to visit the nanny and the bodyguards, who were hurt during the accident. After that, she left the hospital.
She sent the same message to Savannah and Raelyn using a second phone as soon as she got back in the car. It wrote: ‘Natalie is still alive, and she is now in the hospital with Archer.’
Lucian let out a sigh of relief after she sent the messages. If Savannah and Raelyn knew that Natalie was still alive, they would be pestering her for sure, so she just had to leave it all to them in the meantime.
Not to mention that Natalie won’t be hurt by them since Archer was there with her. What she wanted was to dispel Archer’s doubts for now so that she could catch her breath.
Meanwhile, Valeria and William left the hospital together, and on their way back home, Valeria couldn’t help but sneer. “You’ve guessed Lucian’s excuse accurately! Did she think that she is that smart to fool us?”
“She’s actually not that dumb, though, it’s just that I’m smarter than her. Consider her unlucky, then,” William said as he chuckled. “I’m guessing her next move would be telling Savannah and Raelyn the news that your mom is still alive to distract us. Hah! It would be a long night for those two.”
“So, what’s your next move?”
“Just wait and see!” William pinched Valeria’s face. “Once they learn about your mom, they’ll definitely start planning something. Let’s just wait and see what they’ll do!”
