Meanwhile, in Lentzville Memorial Cemetery, Archer was dressed in black and was holding a bouquet of white roses. Without any bodyguards, he walked through the cemetery and stopped when he came to Natalie’s grave.
Natalie’s expression on the grave was peaceful and serene, and her gaze was gentle on him.
Archer stared at Natalie’s gentle smile and squatted down slowly. He put the roses in front of her tombstone and reached out to touch her face in the picture. “Natalie, I’m here to see you.”
There was a lump in his throat, and his shoulders were trembling slightly as he was trying his best to suppress his emotions.
However, the heartache and remorse in him poured out uncontrollably, and his eyes became watery with tears.
“Natalie, I’m so sorry! It’s all my fault. If I had known it would turn out like this, I would never have let you go easily. I should have fought with you through it all. It’s my cowardice that killed you!”
He thought that giving her up would let her live in peace for the rest of her life. What he didn’t expect was that his sacrifice was all for nothing. Savannah was cruel beyond his imagination, and he could not do anything to stop her.
“Don’t worry, Natalie. I won’t let those who hurt you get away so easily. I swear that I will punish them for what they did.”
His deep voice was full of hatred and regret. He touched Natalie’s face on the cool tombstone and slowly moved closer to hug it as if he were hugging his lover. Then, he lowered his head and kissed Natalie’s picture.
Once he got up, his face had turned calm once again. He walked out of the cemetery and saw another car stopped next to his. Seeing Archer walk out of the cemetery, Lamont got off the car to greet him. “President Saunders!”
“You’re here? Take me to see Lan Jin.” Lamont got on his car and started the engine. Archer followed behind, and they soon arrived at where Lan Jin stayed.
Lucian had made tea and was sitting quietly in her house. Even when Archer and Lamont entered, she did not get up to greet them. She just glanced at Archer coldly.
She said sarcastically, “President Saunders had actually stopped by my humble house today. This must be the most glorious moment of my life.”
Archer ignored her attitude and sat down as Lamont poured him a cup of tea. After he took a sip of it, he turned to Lucian, “Why did you ask for me?”
“Of course it’s because of President Garcia’s death. I just want to ask you, what are you going to do about this matter? Are you going to continue to keep quiet and help your wife hide this secret or are you going to avenge President Garcia?”
“Of course I want revenge!”
“And how are you going to do that? Care to tell me?”
“Tell you? I don’t see the need to.”
“Why not? I want to see your sincerity. Archer Saunders, President Garcia was killed by your wife. Are you going to be soft-hearted and let her off the hook easily?”
“Of course not.”
“Alright, so tell me how you’re going to deal with her?”
“Who are you to ask me this?” Archer was indifferent to her. “If you were someone loyal to her, her family or her friend, I would gladly tell you. But who are you now to ask me this? Why should I tell you anything?”
“I… Of course I am loyal to President Garcia, I’m her friend and family too! This has never changed.”
“Is that so? So why did you leave her then?” Archer asked coldly.
“Didn’t you say that Natalie was like a sister to you? Since you were sisters, why didn’t you stay by her side?”
“Shouldn’t I get something in return for how much I’ve contributed? I was loyal to President Garcia, but I have my limits. Besides, you were deeply and madly in love with her. Right, President Saunders? If that’s the case, why did you agree to marry Savannah and hurt her like that? The person who really pushed her off the edge was you.”
Lamont, who was listening to their conversation, frowned when she said that, “Lan Jin, President Saunders had no choice back then.”
“Hah!” Lucian laughed coldly. “No choice? Isn’t it because he was afraid that Hayden Howard would make President Garcia take responsibility for his wife’s death? And President Garcia had said that she would take responsibility and go to jail if she had to. But you? What did you do? You married Savannah, and broke President Garcia’s heart into pieces. She would rather go to jail than see you marry Savannah. You could have married anyone and she would be fine with it. But you chose to marry Savannah Howard, and this was absolutely unacceptable to her!”
Lucian was extremely worked up. Meanwhile, pain flashed across Archer’s face as he heard this.
“But I’d rather die than see her go to jail. I don’t want to see her suffer in the least!”
“So, did it go as you hoped? President Garcia married that despicable Ronald Brown, and it was a living hell to her. Did you know that? Is that how you hoped she would live?”
Archer’s face darkened once again. “I’ve never expected that it would turn out like this!”
“You didn’t? Back then, you didn’t trust President Garcia too, right? You were set up by your own sister and made Savannah pregnant. What did that have to do with President Garcia? When she gave birth to your child in the hospital, but the child died right after it was born, do you remember how you treated her?”
Lucian did not stop there. “When you heard that the baby is dead, you grabbed her and suspected her. You said that she did something to the baby to anger you. Archer Saunders, did you know how much she’d wanted that child? When she found out that the baby was gone, she was devastated as well. But did you even comfort her? Did you know how much she suffered because of you?”
“I… I…” Archer could not say a word. Back then, when Savannah went to them with a bump and said that she was pregnant, Natalie and he were shocked beyond words.
Natalie had said that he was lying to her, but Archer could not understand what was going on.
Since Savannah was pregnant, Gavin insisted that Archer marry her. So, Natalie was enraged and fought with him, saying that he had betrayed her. In the midst of their quarrel, she had said that she was going to abort the baby and break up with him.
By then, the baby was already 7 months old. But Archer hadn’t expected that she would go into premature delivery, nor did he expect that the baby to be dead.
He was too young at that time and thought that Natalie had aborted the baby as revenge. So he wasn’t thinking clearly and had rushed in anger despite that she had just given birth.
There was only regret in Archer’s heart when he thought of the past. “I have done her wrong! I know that now!”
“Even so, there’s nothing you can do to bring President Garcia back.” Lucian said coldly, “President Saunders, I just want to know what you intend to do right now.”
“Of course I’ll have to punish those that hurt her.”
“Punish Savannah? Is that all?” Lan Jin asked.
“What do you mean?”
“President Garcia lost her child back then. She had been living in pain for all her life, but she still could not escape from Savannah’s clutches. You’d only thought of punishing Savannah, don’t you think there’s someone else on the list too?”
“Someone else? Who are you talking about? Hayden Howard? Or Charles Howard?”
“Mr. Saunders, why bother playing dumb? Of course Hayden, Charles and even your sister Raelyn are on the list. I meant that child Savannah gave birth to, your son, Raymond!” Lucian said viciously.
