EPISODE HUNDRED AND FORTY NINE
THEME: The map is gone!
MOON STONE FORTRESS
AT THE BORDER
Rex had his heart in his mouth when he followed Juno to the Rogues site. To cap it all, Jayden was outside waiting for her. The both of them held onto each other for a while before letting go to head inside the house.
Getting down from the car, Rex activated his wolf spy mode, blending into the bushes around as he made his way towards the back of the house. Men were on patrol, and knowing how dangerous it would be if he got caught without getting the exact information he needed, he moved discreetly. He rolled among the long grasses to get to his intended destination.
Rex almost crawled into the hands of two Rogues passing by but he hid himself well. He could see from the window side that had light on a group of people that included Jayden and Juno. There was no doubt Juno had given out the secret map to them. Rex looked closer, squinting his eyes through the darkness that he engulfed himself in. He recognized Liam at once, the both of them had had an encounter at one point in time.
Rex fumed at the sight of the traitors and he balled his fist in anger. However, dealing with people like them requires playing smart. He made his way carefully back to where his car is parked feeling thankful that he wasn’t caught. Rex drove down the road as he dialed Jaylen and Sebastian in a conference call. The both of them picked after several rings but Jaylen was the last to pick.
‘This had better be for a good reason. I was having some good sleep.’ Jaylen whined.
‘Sleeping should really be the last thing on your list right now!’ Rex said looking all serious.
Sebastian sounded at alert. ‘What’s going on?’
‘We need to meet tonight. It’s important.’ Rex stated.
‘At the pack house?’ Jaylen suggested.
‘Yes, please.’ Rex muttered.
‘I will be there in a jiffy.’ Sebastian said.
The call ended and Rex practically drove like a maniac towards the pack house. He felt disappointed in himself for being so slow to take note of the situation. The moment Jayden left the pack house, he should have taken a move by keeping tab on him just incase. But thanks to Claire who was sensitive enough to notice things if not he would have been lacking in carrying out his duty and that might lead to the ruin of the Fortress.
Rex had never been caught off guard before but this time Juno was a better actress. He slammed his hand angrily on the steering wheel as he almost swerved out of the lane.
“Damn you, Jayden! Damn you, Juno!” Rex cussed the rest of the way as he drove to the pack house unscathed.
Rex made his way silently through the hallway to avoid waking anyone. He reminded himself to keep Claire in the know. Her vigilance would be the reason why they would be saved from the mess Jayden was about to pull them into.
“You don’t look like anything is wrong. And you sounded like all hell was about to let loose.” Jaylen mused as he observed Rex’s appearance.
Rex kept mute as he took his seat next to Sebastian. “We have a traitor in our midst.”
Sebastian sat up abruptly. “A traitor? Who?” He arched his brows.
“Juno.” Rex announced with a serious look on his face.
Jaylen raised a stern brow. “Has Claire been feeding you some irrelevant informations? Why would Juno betray us? You should know Claire and her childish dislike for Juno. But I wouldn’t have thought she would take it this far.”
“I see why she came to me instead.” Rex scoffed. “But I am not sorry to burst your bubble, your dear Juno has stolen the Secret Passage Map and given it out to Jayden and the Rogues. I don’t doubt they would plan an attack on us soon. Knowing we might find out a bit too early about it, they would make their attack quick.”
Jaylen looked disoriented. He almost had no idea about what Rex was talking about. “What the hell is the Secret Passage Map?”
“It’s a detailed map on accessing the Fortress aside the main gate. It’s our way of countering the enemies on their attack. It was a perfectly formulated map by your father, to ensure the Fortress was more fortified in conquering any external attack.” Sebastian explained.
“Wow, that’s a whole lot.” Jaylen mumbled.
“You would have found out about it if you have been coronated as the Alpha.” Rex added.
“How are you so sure Juno took the map?” Sebastian asked.
“Why would she take it in the first place? Juno doesn’t even like Jayden that much!” Jaylen argued.
“I can’t believe this…Juno is a warrior…she swore an oath.” Sebastian added.
Rex looked bored. “Is that what you think? You are the incoming Beta so how about you affirm it then.”
Sebastian had a doubtful look on his face as he exchanged a glance with Jaylen. He stood up and went to the secret spot. His father had shown him the spot as ordered by the dead Alpha when it became certain that he would assume the position and to keep him in the know of the Fortress secrets. The Passage Map was kept in a small wooden box together with some files behind some piles of book in the study. It had been kept that way knowing no one would be able to suspect it being there. It had been kept for years and had never been tampered with.
No need to be told, Sebastian could notice the disheveled arrangements of the books. Someone had clearly raided the shelve. But still doubtful, Sebastian pulled out the books and searched through the files in the hidden box. To his shock, the map wasn’t there.
Turning around to look at the expectant eyes staring at him, Sebastian shook his head. “It’s gone!”
Jaylen had a shocked look on his face. “That can’t be true. Why would Juno…do that?” His voice cracked.
“Whatever it is that prompted her to do so, that can be kept on a hold till we ensure the whole of our Fortress is saved.” Rex said.
“There would be a need to meet with Zeta Ragnak and call onto the Leaders of the MUNUXI Group just in case we would need them to watch over the Fortress resources and tighten it security. We never can tell how forceful this pack of Rogues would be.” Sebastian said.
“Who are the MUNUXI?” Jaylen inquired.
Rex and Sebastian exchanged a correlating stare for the first time they thought alike. It had almost skipped their minds that Jaylen was almost alien to the Fortress and he knows just about little to nothing of how the Fortress was being operated.
“Tonight is going to be a long one.” Rex mumbled under his breath.
