Everyone turned around to stare at Lorelei who had an astounding look on her face as she stared hard at Jaylen. Jaylen almost choked on his spit when their eyes met as he didn’t brace himself for any said reaction from sighting her.
“Come on guys, I had the table set for us all.” Hazel said as she broke the awkward silence.
They all scampered to their feet and followed Hazel but only Jaylen and Lorelei remained glued to their spot. Jaylen pinched himself to get back to reality. He stood up and walked towards her while he held a small smile.
“Hi.” Jaylen said as he slapped his back pocket.
Lorelei felt her guts slapped out of her. It seem like the last time she had seen him had been since forever. Jaylen looked a bit rugged and more handsome and it made her breath hitch at the sight.
“You came back.” She gulped.
Jaylen heaved a sigh as he moved closer to her. “I know it’s not my place to say this right now, but I am here for you and everyone Lorelei. I am not running anymore and I am so sorry I made you choose the other time. I forgot this is your home and there was no way you would have dropped it all off for someone as indecisive as myself. I am really sorry for hurting you. I would understand if you hate me now, I won’t be angry. It’s all good. I just want to do what’s right now, and I hope I will have your support.”
Lorelei jumped at him as tears rolled down her eyes. For weeks she had thought he would never return and her love life that hardly had a start was ending in a flash. She hugged him tightly against herself.
“I am so sorry for acting selfish too. I should have thought of how hard it must have been on you. I am sorry for not thinking of the situation you had been drawn into. I regretted my action the moment you left. I was suppose to be your support system but I left you just like everyone else. I am sorry baby.” She cried against his solid chest.
Jaylen pulled her away from himself gently. “It’s alright. I am back now.” Letting out a loud sigh of relief, he reached out his hands to wipe her tears. He kissed her forehead before pulling her into a close embrace again. He had thought winning Lorelei back would be the hardest for him but the Moon Goddess definitely was on his side.
“Can you both leave that for later? We are hungry and waiting.” Rex muttered behind them.
Lorelei giggled lightly into Jaylen’s shoulder. “Sorry.”
Jaylen snorted. “In all you do ignore Rex, he is a sadist.”
She laughed out loud this time as they went towards the dining hall. Hazel and Julius exchanged a satisfied look. It had been a long while since they saw their daughter look so happy. Jaylen really was her undoing.
“This looks so nice. I am famished.” Rosalyn muttered with her eyes glazing over the full table. One would have thought Hazel knew she would have guests.
Sebastian smiled his eyes not leaving Rosalyn as she cooed over her served plate. Something about her just keeps pulling him in and it’s unexplainable. They had only just met less than an hour ago and he was already enjoying just having to watch her.
“What do you plan on doing now that you are back? I guess you need to actually apologize to the pack members.” Julius said.
“I don’t think that would be necessary. What matters is getting in tune with his brother and assuming the position.” Rex chipped in.
Jaylen dropped the cutlery in his hand. “I just want to make amends for the meantime and will sort the rest later. But I would really need you all to be in place, I don’t want to have to face Jayden on my own. And I am hoping it wouldn’t be violent this time around.”
“You don’t have to worry, Jaylen. We would do all we can to support you since this isn’t just about one person it is about all of us.” Sebastian added. “However, you must know that the Rogues are making some sort of funny moves around the Fortress. And we haven’t been able to face the situation due to the controversies of the Alpha issue. But I am hoping with your return now we would be able to work this out.”
Rex cleared his throat. “I would be helping out with that. There would be nothing to worry about in the end.”
Hazel clapped her hands in excitement. “I feel so relieved now that you are here Jaylen.”
Jaylen smiled at her as Lorelei held his hand underneath the table and squeezed it lightly. “Thanks aunt. It’s really nice seeing your faces again.”
“We are more happy to have you back.” Julius said.
“You haven’t exactly introduced her to us.” Hazel nodded towards Rosalyn.
Lorelei sat up too with her ears straightening out. She had been eyeing the lady for quite a while wondering who she was and why she had returned with Jaylen.
Jaylen chuckled. “Pardon my manners, this is Rosalyn my favorite human. She works close to me at my company and she is my most trusted hand.”
“Oh Rosalyn.” Lorelei mused as she blushed hard. She felt embarrassed within herself for not catching it on time. “It’s so nice to finally meet you. Jaylen talks about you so much.”
Rosalyn gave Jaylen a knowing glance. “Well it appears he can’t stop showing me off. I feel glad that my boss appreciates me. And it’s nice to meet you all.”
Jaylen scoffed as he tried to hide a smile. “You really like to think you sound cute but you are not.”
She snorted. “Say what you want. Rex would agree otherwise.”
Rex raised his glass towards her. “You sure know.”
The room bounced with their various laughter. They all finished their lunch making side talks. Jaylen bid old Beta Julius and his family goodbye after asking them to come around the next day to be present when he intends to make his announcement.
As they drove towards the pack house again, Jaylen felt more relaxed than he had been when they were driving into the Fortress. He hoped his brother wouldn’t make things hard for him and they would be able to lead the Fortress right just like their father had wanted it.
