THEME: The return home
MOON STONE FORTRESS
A WEEK LATER
“It feels like my heart would burst out of their cage.” Jaylen mumbled as they got off the plane.
Rex snorted. “You had better hold onto it properly. There isn’t any heart surgeon around to fix you up.”
“You sure said that right.” Rosalyn giggled as she fluttered her lashes at Rex.
Jaylen watched the transaction with disgust. It was annoying enough that Rex has a rude approach to everything but having Rosalyn on that list was a no no for him.
“You come here.” Jaylen dragged her to his side. “Haven’t you been able to tell that Rex is a married man with several kids?”
Rosalyn pouted as she looked confused. “He never told me that. Is this true Rex?”
Rex looked hurt. “You know I would never lie to you my darling.”
“What the? What the hell did you just call her?” Jaylen inquired as he almost missed a foot.
Rex and Rosalyn exchanged a glance before both of them bursted into a fit of laughter as Jaylen walked farther away from them towards the parked limousine that has been waiting on them.
“I love to get him riled up. He is so easy to get to.” Rex laughed brightly.
Rosalyn grinned. “Don’t let him hear you say that. Jaylen loves to believe he is strong hearted and uncaring of things around him.”
“You know that’s a lie.” He mused still laughing.
“He is not even close to it.” Rosalyn giggled.
Jaylen’s heart raced at a high speed as they drove closer to the pack house. It didn’t really dawn on him the last few days how his life would change for either the better or worse but to make his almost miserable life easy, he had asked Rosalyn to come with him. Although he had gone through series of constant board meetings to assign someone they can trust to hold onto the company before anything is decided on. Rosalyn would have been the best fit but he needed her by his side more than anything at the moment.
“Why are you so lost in thought?” Her voice sang their way to his thoughts.
Rosalyn had pleaded with Rex for them to find a way of cheering Jaylen up because they both knew the turmoil his mind was experiencing at the moment. All through the week he had been moving around like a zombie, doing nothing but stare into space like a lost soul.
Jaylen shook his head as he held on to Rosalyn’s hand. “I am scared Rosa. The last thing I want is to be in a brawl with my brother. I don’t want all of this drama. Is it too late to head back?” He admitted.
Rex cleared his throat. “It is too late and you know this isn’t just about what you want or desire. This is your life Jaylen, who you are suppose to be and this is want fate wants for you.”
“How in the world could fate have chosen to punish me? I still don’t understand how fate chooses to work. It took me ten years away from my family and then after working so hard to make a name for myself and then dear fate came calling again to disrupt my almost balanced life.” Jaylen lamented.
Rex stared in amusement as he leaned back into the car seat. “I like that you used the word almost balanced which implies you need about just a tiny bit of one more chaos for your life to eventually experience the balance.”
Jaylen stared back at Rosalyn who had her lips thinned trying to not give off any expression. His gaze went back to Rex. “I want to believe you were just joking right now? Are you even listening to yourself?” He looked back at Rosa. “I tell you Rosa, I really do not like this guy.”
“Unfortunately, we would be friends for as long as we both live.” Rex said.
“And he is arrogant too.” Jaylen muttered as he scoffed. He turned his head sideways.
Rex let out a low sigh as he pat Jaylen’s knees. “I am not saying this is going to be easy. It is not your fault that all of this is happening. It just happens that when life decides it’s high time for us to get played, we won’t be spared one bit. You have fought this far so I believe you are burdened with a task the Moon Goddess knows you would execute well. And luckily for you, you do have Rosalyn by your side and me too. I am here to be your guide and support so you don’t have to worry about me raving crazy.” Rex took a pause to smack his lips. “I guess that’s enough emotional speech for the day. Big men like me don’t do mushy stuff.”
Jaylen’s eyes lingered on Rex’s broad chest for a while. “Or you mean big chested men whose heart is too rocky to feel any emotion. There is no need you telling, it’s obvious.”
“Shut up!” Rosalyn laughed loudly.
“Are you agreeing with him right now?” Rex looked offended.
“High five!” Jaylen lifted a hand but to his disappointment Rosalyn turned her face sideways.
Rex had a good laugh at the reaction. “You both would make a horrible team with ganging up against me. How did you become this close again?” He sneered at them.
The both of them ignored him and high five each other. Rex scoffed, trying to hide the smile spreading out on his face as Jaylen stuck out his tongue at him.
“We are almost at the pack house.” The driver announced.
Jaylen paused for a second. “Let’s head to Beta Julius house please. I have a whole lot to do in that house.”
“I guess you do.” Rex mumbled under his breath still trying to hide the grin spreading on his face.
Jaylen glared at him. “I just want to discuss with Beta Julius and Sebastian. How do you not get that?”
“Point of correction, old Beta Julius…Sebastian is your Beta now. And no one is asking you to explain yourself.” Rex corrected.
“True.” Rosa shook her head in agreement.
“Why are you both looking like you are up to some mischief then?” Jaylen pointed at the both of them.
Rex snorted as he stretched out. “Say what you want but it feels so good to be back home. I guess my happiness doesn’t radiate towards some people.”
Jaylen picked up a styrofoam cup available next to him and threw it at Rex. Rosa and Rex laughed at him. Paying no mind to them, Jaylen sighed, looking out the tinted glasses as they moved closer to the home he had grown to love and hate. Maybe this was the exact right time to return home.
