THEME: The What If?
MOON STONE FORTRESS
“Stop playing!” Sebastian exclaimed as he tapped the table in amusement.
Jayden flipped his tied ponytail to the back, crossing his legs as he chuckled. “I didn’t know what I was thinking but it came out all of a sudden and it didn’t feel exactly bad.”
Nodding his head, Sebastian had a full smile on. “I’m super proud of you man!” He chuckled.
Jayden arched his eyebrows. “I see I have never actually made you proud before now.”
Sebastian snorted. “To be honest, you hardly do.”
Jayden laughed really hard. When he had said a greeting to Jaylen he had thought it might feel weird but it was just fine. After Sebastian had told him to try his best to make amends and not make his brother an enemy, he had thought it through and realized everyone of them are right.
Since Jaylen is no longer an exact threat then there was no exact need to make him an enemy. Jayden felt quite proud of his twin brother for being able to make a huge life for himself outside of the Fortress.
It might sound like stalking but he had indulged in a research as regards Jaylen’s life in Chicago. And it turned out he is doing better than expected which meant that he doesn’t have to worry about Jaylen becoming greedy for the Moon Stone Fortress Alpha’s seat.
Deciding to leave the past behind and focus ahead on the future, Jayden had made up his mind to be polite and nice with his brother as much as he can.
“You should do this more often.” Sebastian brought him out of his reverie.
“What?” Jayden’s forehead creased in confusion.
“I mean you should be more thoughtful and considerate of other people.” Sebastian answered.
“In one word you are saying I am not considerate of other people and you included?”
Sebastian shook his head in agreement. “It’s not like you act right most times.” He said with a shrug.
Jayden took hold of his pen and threw it at Sebastian. “I should really tweak your neck.”
“I would have to think about that.” Sebastian replied.
“I don’t need your permission to do so.”
“It’s mine and only I would decide if I want you to rip it off or not.” Sebastian laughed.
They both stayed quiet after some seconds with each of them immersed in their thoughts. Jayden cleared his throat first to speak,
“It has been a while since I last saw Lorelei. I am beginning to think she is avoiding me on purpose.”
Sebastian sat up in his seat. “Why would she avoid you? You both hardly see eye to eye.”
Jaylen flicked his tongue. “That’s because she is always pissed at me for one thing or the other.”
“I don’t know about that so don’t drag me in you and Lorelei’s mess. All I know is do not mess with my sister and don’t forget I have warned you about it before.”
Giving his friend a once over, Jayden wondered why Sebastian was being exceptionally careful with Lorelei around him. He feels his expression of how much he feels for Lorelei was just enough for Sebastian to trust him with his beloved sister.
“The way you defy your future Alpha to be really amuses me. I could make you an outcast and send you packing.” Jayden threatened playfully.
Thinking for a moment, Sebastian stared hard at his friend wondering if it would be less disastrous if he could figure out the intentions of Jayden.
“One quick question Jayden; what if, just what if you don’t become the Alpha?” He asked.
The air in the room went from being warm, accommodating to hot and unbearable at the same time. The smile on Jayden’s face faded off immediately and was replaced with a horrific look and his pupils gave way to his wolf’s rage.
“And why would I be deprived of being the Alpha?” His voice boomed across the room. It sounded unrecognizable.
Sebastian held on to his usual cool look feeling unbothered by his friend’s sudden change. “Just if such happens what will you do?”
Jayden growled trying to keep his wolf at bay. Then a cynical smile crossed on his face. “I will raze down the whole of Moon Stone Fortress if I don’t become the Alpha. And if any of you think to betray me I would end everyone lives! No one! I repeat no one will take away from me my birthright!” He growled again as he hit the table hard.
“Fine! Now that you have made your point can you blow off the steam. You are exhausting too much energy.” Sebastian tried to lighten the mood which appeared to be pointless.
Jayden didn’t look like he got the joke. Regretting that he couldn’t keep his sharp tongue at bay when he knew just what he would say in response, Sebastian chided himself for being so loose mouthed.
“Chill out man! I was just asking.” He said again.
Jayden kissed his teeth and looked away. All of his insides were burning at the sudden question. He had almost gone for Sebastian’s neck in a bid to prove himself. Trying to calm himself down, Jayden pulled at the tie he had on. If Sebastian had asked him this sort of question when Jaylen had just arrived at the Fortress then he would have thought it to be a good point.
However, he was convinced no one would fight over the reign with him. All the same, his anger had surged almost immediately out of his control.
“I am sorry I acted that way man.” Jayden murmured. “Don’t play such jokes with me, I don’t take them lightly no more. But I understand what you are trying to say. It is obvious now that Jaylen whom I had thought was a rival is no longer one. So, it’s all good.” He shrugged.
Sebastian gulped hard. He hated a part of himself for sitting in front of his best friend and lie to his face. But he owed his loyalty more to the Fortress than Jayden. Whatever he would do as the incoming Beta to save and protect the Fortress from crumbling then he would do so in a snap of finger.
“No qualms, it’s all good.” He responded.
“Are we good now?” Jayden asked again.
Sebastian let out a laugh to lighten the atmosphere of the room. “I really can’t stay mad at you for a long while. Even though you were few inches away from ripping my head off some minutes ago.”
“I would never do that, you are not just my best friend but my intending in-law.” Jayden teased.
Sebastian threw his hands in the air. “There he goes again sputtering nonsense. The best friend part I will take but for the in-law aspect, I can’t force my sister into what she doesn’t want.”
Scoffing in response, Jayden returned his attention to the files in front of him. He didn’t seem convinced as he snorted. Sebastian hoped all Jayden says about Lorelei is all a joke, as he could envision a cold war brewing if Jayden eventually finds out about Lorelei and Jaylen.
But till then it was his duty to keep mute and mind his business.
