The Wraith family was in total chaos. A crowd of people stood outside the courtyard, their faces panicked and uneasy, all traces of arrogance gone. They had just seen Smith come back, rolling and crawling. The result was, as one could imagine, they panicked and were afraid.
They had never thought that the largest family in Stillwater, the most domineering force that no one dared to speak against, would one day come to this.
Inside the courtyard, there were fewer people. Walter Wraith had driven them out with a single look. Only three people remained: Walter Wraith, sitting in a chair wearing glasses and a black coat; Constance Brighton, dressed in a white dress that failed to hide her curvaceous figure; and Smith, kneeling on the ground with a terrified expression.
“They’re all dead. All the members of the Winfield family are dead. Mr. X is not a human, but a devil. Master, we must run away. Run away now.” Smith knelt on the ground, his face full of panic.
“Run?” Walter Wraith slowly stood up and walked to Smith.
“Yes, run. Mr. X is too terrifying. I…” Before he could finish, a line of blood spurted from Smith’s neck. He clutched his throat with both hands, his eyes full of resentment as he looked at the family head he had always respected.
“It’s not that I don’t give you a way to live, but you don’t give yourself a way to live. As one of us, how can you just keep talking about running? Can we even run?” Walter Wraith pulled out a piece of paper and carefully wiped a dagger in his hand.
“We can’t run.” Constance Brighton said with a complex expression in her eyes. She could feel that the entire Creepland was covered by a large net. Just yesterday, she had booked a ticket to another city, only to find that she couldn’t book it because her identity information had a problem. She then discovered that she couldn’t leave Stillwater. A large net had completely trapped her in the city.
“Yes, we can’t run anymore. We can only fight with our backs against the wall.”
Walter Wraith retracted the small knife and sat down, adjusting his glasses. Known for his cunning, at this moment, the sound of his hand tapping on the chair sped up. Constance Brighton knew that Walter Wraith was nervous. She could hardly believe that this genius, who had remained hidden within the Wraith family for so many years, was now cornered by a mysterious Mr. X.
In fact, she felt the same way. The previous day, she had seen Isadora Brighton, covered in blood, appearing before her. The feeling was unbearable – knowing that death was near, yet being unable to stop it.
The next morning, a major piece of news spread throughout Stillwater: the predominant Winfield family of Creepland was invited by the Wraith family to launch a night raid against Mr. X. However, they had vanished without a trace. The upper echelons of the Wraith family knew that it was not a disappearance, but rather, they had all been killed.
The Holland family had faced a similar fate in the past, eventually being forced to apologize, severing the arm of every adult male, and disbanding the entire family. All of their assets were donated to charity foundations, narrowly avoiding complete annihilation. The Winfield family, on the other hand, was finished.
“This Mr. X is even more terrifying than I thought. My goodness, he wiped out the Winfield family of Creepland! It’s horrifying!”
“More than just horrifying, don’t you realize that no one has been able to uncover Mr. X’s background?”
“That’s the scariest part; no one knows Mr. X’s true capabilities.”
“Also, today is the day Mr. X is supposed to visit. I heard that several important figures have come to Stillwater, but I don’t know if they can deal with Mr. X.”
From the start of the day, countless people were discussing Mr. X, the madman of Stillwater. At this time, a phone call came in for Elise. She picked up and immediately said, “Miranda, you’re calling about Mr. X today, aren’t you?”
“Indeed, you’re my best friend for a reason. You guessed it before I even said anything.” Miranda Levis’s voice was filled with excitement. After all, it was the big day for their boss.
“Elise, are you going today? We’re both loyal employees of Mr. X.” Miranda Levis asked eagerly, as that was the purpose of her call.
“Go? Um…” Elise hesitated. The truth was, she didn’t want to go because today was the day Robin said he would return. She wanted to stay at home and wait for him, as a good wife should.
“Oh… are you thinking about Robin again?… Never mind… Elise, didn’t you always think that Mr. X and Robin were somehow related? This time, Mr. X will definitely show up. He usually hides from you, but not this time. When you see him face to face, you’ll know, won’t you?” Miranda Levis didn’t say that Robin was useless, fearing it would upset Elise. Instead, she skillfully shifted the topic to the relationship between Mr. X and Robin.
“Um…” Elise still hesitated, as today was the day Robin would return.
“Elise, Mr. X is your boss and has shown you great kindness. Aren’t you going to support him on such an important day? You are his employee, after all. As for Robin, just give him a call and ask when he’ll be back, right?” Miranda Levis patiently advised, even bringing up the favor Elise owed Mr. X.
At this moment, Elise found it difficult to refuse. After all, she had received great kindness from Mr. X. So, after some thought, she hung up the phone and called Robin.
“Sweetheart?”
Robin’s voice came through the phone.
“Um, when are you coming back?” Elise asked hesitantly.
“In the afternoon. I have some things to deal with in the morning.”
“Alright, I have some things to do in the morning too, so I’ll wait for you at home in the afternoon.”
With that, Elise hung up. As she stared at the word ‘Robin’ on the phone, she became lost in thought and whispered to herself, “I’ll see you today. I hope you have fulfilled your promise of six months.”
“I… I miss you.”
