Chapter 269: Mr. X’s Visit (Part One)

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

Robin, who was at Eleanor Manor, was lost in thought as well, staring at the phone number and the word ‘sweetheart’ written next to it.
“Sir, your clothes.”
Jeff Reczek brought over a brand new black suit, and at the same time, a long robe-a black robe embroidered with golden dragon patterns, called the Primus Robe. It came with a token to commemorate Primus of Kisia, a symbol of honor for his sacrifices for the country and its people.
When worn inside-out, the robe became an ordinary black coat. No one would know the awe-inspiring honor hidden on the other side.
“What’s the Wraith family up to?”
As Robin put on the coat, his handsome face and sword-like brows seemed to exude an imposing aura. However, he also wore a half-face mask with the gruesome fanged teeth.
But for Robin, the mask was just an addition to his persona. One could say that his good looks forced him to wear the mask in order to command his army and intimidate the enemy.
“They’re making many moves. Many important figures are coming to Stillwater today, and our people have even spotted an army approaching Stillwater. However, we don’t know if it’s for Walter Wraith,” Jeff Reczek reported.
“An army? Is it from the so-called ‘master’ backing Walter Wraith?”
Robin smirked. Today, he would be waiting for them.
“Sir, I’ve already followed your orders and summoned 100, 000 elite cavalry from the Eastern Kisia military base into the city. When the time comes, at your command, we can suppress everything.”
Jeff Reczek clenched his fists, full of confidence. Eastern Kisia, the number one military base among the four major bases, had 100, 000 cavalry capable of crushing anything. Robin, as Primus of Kisia, also had the authority to suppress everything.
“Let’s go meet Walter Wraith.”
Robin adjusted his mask, and his deep, terrifying eyes reappeared.
Mr. X. The nightmare of Stillwater’s upper class.
“Yes.”
Robin and Jeff Reczek got into a Land Rover waiting outside. The vehicle roared to life, and at the same time, tension began to spread throughout Stillwater. The gloomy sky, occasionally punctuated by thunder, gave a sense of oppression.
The air seemed to be filled with the scent of blood.
Everyone knew that Mr. X was coming to settle the score.
The Wraith family was in a state of panic, pacing back and forth in their courtyard. It wasn’t that they didn’t trust their family head, Walter Wraith, but Mr. X was just too terrifying. Their many attempts against him had failed to make even a splash.
The feeling of waiting for death was excruciating.
“Mr. X is here!”
Just then, a scream rang out, and everyone looked towards the entrance. A Land Rover approached and stopped at the door. A figure slowly emerged, dressed in a standard black suit, with a straight figure like a sharp sword, wearing a coat and a fanged mask.
Mysterious, domineering, terrifying!
This was the impression Mr. X gave people-contemptuous of the world and as powerful as a devil.
“Mr. X… sir…”
With a thud, one of the Wraith family members looked at Robin and collapsed on the ground the next second, wetting his pants from fear.
Everyone around was astonished.
This was a member of the Wraith family, the number one family in Stillwater. Yet, they were terrified to this extent by Mr. X’s oppressive aura.
“You see, you can’t look too much at Mr. X, especially not make eye contact, or you might be scared and develop some symptoms. Last time, you must have been frightened, which is why you thought Mr. X was Robin.”
Outside, many onlookers were present, including Miranda Levis and Elise.
After seeing the Wraith family members, Miranda Levis quickly turned her head to speak to Elise. However, when she turned around, she was stunned to find that Elise had been staring at Mr. X’s figure the entire time.
“Elise, what’s wrong?”
Miranda Levis waved her hand in front of Elise’s face.
“Miranda, why do you all say that Mr. X’s figure is terrifying and shouldn’t be stared at? But when I look at him, I feel warmth, gentleness, and a sense of familiarity. Could he be…”
“It’s impossible, absolutely impossible.”
Miranda Levis immediately interrupted Elise.
She knew what her best friend wanted to say: that Mr. X was Robin.
Impossible.
How could it be?
Absolutely not.
How could that good-for-nothing be Mr. X, her boss’s boss?
“It must be an illusion. Yes, an illusion. You’re too far from Mr. X to see clearly. If you get closer, you’ll know that it’s definitely not Mr. X. Definitely not.”
Miranda Levis said with great determination, and then pulled Elise along, adding, “Didn’t you call Robin earlier? He said he had something to do in the morning and would come back in the afternoon.”
“Mr. X has… something to do… in the morning too,” Elise said weakly.
“I… well… it’s definitely not him.”
Miranda Levis didn’t know how to refute this and said, “In a while, Mr. X will be done with his business, and as his followers, we should naturally go up and see for ourselves. At that time, I’ll let you know if it’s Mr. X.”
She was somewhat annoyed.
Why wouldn’t her silly best friend listen?
What kind of person was Mr. X in Stillwater? A man notorious for his cruelty, dominance, mystery, and perfection. And what about Robin? A good-for-nothing son-in-law who had returned from military service.
At home, he cleaned, served tea, and was utterly useless.
How could they be the same person?
It just wasn’t possible.
“Okay.”
Elise responded softly, her gaze shifting to the Wraith family. Their purpose for coming today was to prove that Mr. X was not Robin. But she couldn’t shake the feeling that the two were very similar.
In many ways.
Especially those gentle eyes.
At that moment, Robin had already entered the Wraith family’s residence, followed by Jeff Reczek. Just the two of them entered the lair of the Wraith family.
In the courtyard, there were hundreds of Wraith family members. But as Robin took each step, they retreated one step at a time, until a path emerged – a wide path.
And on the other side of that path stood Walter Wraith, dressed in a black coat.
“Walter Wraith, seven days ago, I said I would come to destroy your three families. Now, the seven days have passed. So, I have come. Are you ready? To make this last, futile struggle,” Mr. X said with his hands behind his back.
Silence ensued.
No one dared to speak, nor did anyone dare to look Mr. X in the eye.
Mr. X, with just one person, deterred the entire Wraith family – the first family in Stillwater.
